Abstract:Full-scale burning tests were carried out to study the efficiency of mechanical exhaust in cabin fire. The efficiency of mechanical smoke exhaust is, relative with the heat release rate, smoke layer height and the flow flux of fan by theory analysis. These three parameters were measured during the test process. By analyzing the smoke temperature distribution in cabin, the steady smoke layer height in cabin was obtained. The smoke producing rate was calculated by Heskestad plume correlation. Compared with the mechanical smoke exhaust rate, the efficiency of mechanical smoke exhaust in cabin fire was calculated. Results show, if the heat release rate is stable, the dominative factor for affecting the efficiency of mechanical smoke exhaust is the flow flux of fan. The flow flux of fan increases, smoke layer height ascends, but the efficiency of mechanical smoke exhaust decreases. If the flow flux of fan keeps a steady value, the dominative factor for affecting the efficiency of mechanical smoke exhaust is the heat release rate. The heat release rate increases, smoke layer height descends, and the efficiency of mechanical smoke exhaust increases. If smoke layer height keeps stable, the dominative factor for affecting the efficiency of mechanical smoke exhaust is still the heat release rate. The heat release rate increases, the required flow flux of fan increases, and the efficiency of mechanical smoke exhaust increases. The efficiency of mechanical smoke exhaust 0.6 based on the experiment data is recommended as the reference to design mechanical smoke exhaust system in cabin.
