Abstract:In this paper, we first establish an L-2-type Dolbeault isomorphism for logarithmic differential forms by Hrmander's L-2 estimates. By using this isomorphism and the construction of smooth Hermitian metrics, we obtain a number of new vanishing theorems for sheaves of logarithmic differential forms on compact Kahler manifolds with simple normal crossing divisors, which generalize several classical vanishing theorems, including Norimatsu's vanishing theorem, Girbau's vanishing theorem, Le Potier's vanishing theorem, and a version of the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem.

Abstract:We show that the anti-canonical bundle of any $\mathbb Q$-factorial surface is numerically effective if and only if it is pseudo-effective. Abstract:We prove the injectivity and vanishing theorem for R-Hodge modules and R-divisors over projective varieties, extending the results for rational Hodge modules and integral divisors in \cite{Wu15}. In particular, the injectivity generalizes the fundamental injectivity of Esnault-Viehweg for normal crossing Q-divisors, while the vanishing generalizes Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing for Q-divisors. As a main application, we also deduce a Fujita-type freeness result for R-Hodge modules in the normal crossing case.

Abstract:For smooth projective 3-folds of general type, we prove that the relative canonical stability $\mu_s(3)\leq 8$. This is induced from our improved result of Kollár: the m-canonical map of a smooth projective 3-fold of general type is birational whenever $m\geq 5k+6$, provided $P_k(X)\geq 2$. The Q-divisor method is intensively developed to prove our results.

Abstract:The author provedTheorems 1.1–1.3 in [3] for not necessarily torus-invariant divisors on toric varieties in positive characteristic. Recently, an anonymous referee provided the following example to show that Theorem 1.1 does not necessarily hold for non torus-invariant divisors, which means that the arguments of [3] are erroneous. Example 1 Let X = P2, D ⊆ X a smooth projective curve of degree d ≥ 4, and L = OX (1). Then the cohomology exact sequence associated to the short exact sequence 0 → X ⊗ L → X (log D)⊗ L → OD ⊗ L → 0 together with the standard Bott vanishing for P2 show that H1(X, X (log D)⊗ L) ∼= H1(X, L|D). Then the cohomology exact sequence associated to the short exact sequence 0 → OX (−d + 1) → OX (1) → OD(1) → 0 shows that H1(X, L|D) ∼= H(X,OX (−d + 1)), which is nonzero as d ≥ 4. Therefore H1(X, X (log D) ⊗ L) = 0, which implies that Theorem 1.1 in [3] does not necessarily hold for non torus-invariant divisors on toric varieties in arbitrary characteristic.

Abstract:We show that a cubic fourfold F that is apolar to a Veronese surface has the property that its variety of power sums VSP(F,10) is singular along a K3 surface of genus 20. We prove that these cubics form a divisor in the moduli space of cubic fourfolds and that this divisor is not a Noether-Lefschetz divisor. We use this result to prove that there is no nontrivial Hodge correspondence between a very general cubic and its VSP.

Abstract:We study slope stability of smooth surfaces and its connection with exceptional divisors. We show that a surface containing an exceptional divisor with arithmetic genus at least two is slope unstable for some polarisation. In the converse direction we show that slope stability of surfaces can be tested with divisors, and prove that for surfaces with non-negative Kodaira dimension any destabilising divisor must have negative self-intersection and arithmetic genus at least two. We also prove that a destabilising divisor can never be nef, and as an application give an example of a surface that is slope stable but not K-stable.

Abstract:We use a Koszul-type resolution to prove a weak version of Bott's vanishing theorem for smooth hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^n$ and use this result to prove a vanishing theorem for Hodge ideals associated with an effective Cartier divisor on a hypersurface. This extends an earlier result of Mustata and Popa.
