Abstract:We show that the anti-canonical bundle of any $\mathbb Q$-factorial surface is numerically effective if and only if it is pseudo-effective. To prove this, we establish a numerical non-vanishing theorem for surfaces polarized with pseudo-effective divisors. The latter answers a question of C. Fontanari.

Abstract:Let $(X,\Delta)$ be a projective, $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial log canonical pair and let $L$ be a pseudoeffective $\mathbb{Q}$-divisor on $X$ such that $K_X + \Delta + L$ is pseudoeffective. Is there an effective $\mathbb{Q}$-divisor $M$ on $X$ such that $K_X + \Delta + L$ is numerically equivalent to $M$? We are not aware of any counterexamples, but the answer is not completely clear even in the case of surfaces.

Abstract: Determination of quasi-invariant generalized functions is important for a variety of problems in representation theory, notably character theory and restriction problems. In this note, we review some new and easy-to-use techniques to show vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions, developed in the recent work of the authors (Uniqueness of Ginzburg-Rallis models: the Archimedean case, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 363, (2011), 2763-2802). The first two techniques involve geometric notions attached to submanifolds, which we call metrical properness and unipotent $\chi$-incompatibility. The third one is analytic in nature, and it arises from the first occurrence phenomenon in Howe correspondence. We also highlight how these techniques quickly lead to two well-known uniqueness results, on trilinear forms and Whittaker models.

Abstract:The author gives a characterization of counterexamples to the Kodaira-Ramanujam vanishing theorem on smooth projective surfaces in positive characteristic.More precisely,it is reproved that if there is a counterexample to the Kodaira-Ramanujam vanishing theorem on a smooth projective surface X in positive characteristic,then X is either a quasi-elliptic surface of Kodaira dimension 1 or a surface of general type.Furthermore,it is proved that up to blow-ups,X admits a fibration to a smooth projective curve,such that each fiber is a singular curve.
Polarized superspecial simple abelian surfaces with real Weil numbers

Abstract:Let $q$ be an odd power of a prime $p\in \mathbb{N}$, and $\mathrm{PPSP}(\sqrt{q})$ be the finite set of isomorphism classes of principally polarized superspecial abelian surfaces in the simple isogeny class over $\mathbb{F}_q$ corresponding to the real Weil $q$-numbers $\pm \sqrt{q}$. We produce explicit formulas for $\mathrm{PPSP}(\sqrt{q})$ of the following kinds: (i) the class number formula, i.e.~the cardinality of $\mathrm{PPSP}(\sqrt{q})$; (ii) the type number formula, i.e. the number of endomorphism rings up to isomorphism of the underlying abelian surfaces of $\mathrm{PPSP}(\sqrt{q})$. Similar formulas are obtained for other collections of polarized superspecial members of this isogeny class grouped together according to their polarization modules. We observe several surprising identities involving the arithmetic genus of certain Hilbert modular surface on one side and the class number or type number of $(P, P_+)$-polarized superspecial abelian surfaces in this isogeny class on the other side.

Abstract:Let $S$ be a non-uniruled (i.e., non-birationally ruled) smooth projective surface. We show that the tangent bundle $T_S$ is pseudo-effective if and only if the canonical divisor $K_S$ is nef and the second Chern class vanishes, i.e., $c_2(S)=0$. Moreover, we study the blow-up of a non-rational ruled surface with pseudo-effective tangent bundle.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a non-isotrivial almost ordinary Abelian surface with possibly bad reductions over a global function field of odd characteristic $p$. Suppose $\Delta$ is an infinite set of positive integers, such that $\left(\frac{m}{p}\right)=1$ for $\forall m\in \Delta$. If $A$ doesn't admit any global real multiplication, we prove the existence of infinitely many places modulo which the reduction of $A$ has endomorphism ring containing $\mathbb{Z}[x]/(x^2-m)$ for some $m\in \Delta$. This generalizes the $S$-integrality conjecture for elliptic curves over number fields, as proved in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="math/0509485" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/math/0509485">arXiv:math/0509485</a>, to the setting of Abelian surfaces over global function fields. As a corollary, we show that there are infinitely many places modulo which $A$ is not simple, generalizing the main result of <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1812.11679" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1812.11679">arXiv:1812.11679</a> to the non-ordinary case.

The Poincaré Problem for a foliated surface

Abstract:Let $\mathcal F$ be a foliation on a smooth projective surface $S$ over the complex number $\mathbb{C}$. We introduce three birational non-negative invariants $c_1^2(\mathcal F)$, $c_2(\mathcal F)$ and $\chi(\mathcal F)$, called the Chern numbers. If the foliation $\mathcal F$ is not of general type, the first Chern number $c_1^2(\mathcal F)=0$, and $c_2(\mathcal F)=\chi(\mathcal F)=0$ except when $\mathcal F$ is induced by a non-isotrivial fibration of genus $g=1$. If $\mathcal F$ is of general type, we obtain a slope inequality when $\mathcal F$ is algebraically integral. As a corollary, $\mathcal F$ is always transcendental if the slope is less than $2$. On the other hand, we also prove three sharp Noether type inequalities if $\mathcal F$ is of general type. As applications, we obtain a criterion for foliations to be transcendental using Noether type inequalities, and we also give a partial positive answer to the question on the lower bound on the volume of a foliation of general type.

Abstract:In this note, we give a new proof of a vanishing result originally due to Bogomolov, and later generalised by Mourougane and Boucksom. The statement holds for arbitrary pseudoeffective line bundles over compact Kähler manifolds, under an assumption on the numerical dimension of the line bundle.

Abstract:Let P be a normal singularity of multiplicity d = 2 or 3 of a complex surface X. It is well-known that X is locally an irreducible finite cover pi : X -> Y of degree dd over a smooth surface Y, and the singularity (X,P) can be resolved by the canonical resolution X-k -> Xk-1 -> . . . -> X-0 = X, which is the pullback of the embedded resolution of the corresponding singularity p = pi(P) of the branch locus. Let FF be the maximal ideal cycle of this resolution. We will prove that FF has a unique decomposition F = Z(1) + . . . + Z(d) with Z(1) >= Z(2) >= . . . >= Z(d) >= 0, where Z(i) is a fundamental cycle or zero. We show that w = p(a)(Z(1)) + . . . + p(a)(Z(d)) is an invariant of (X,P) that can also be computed from the multiplicity of the branch locus at pp. (X,P) is a rational singularity iff all of the singular points in the canonical resolution satisfies w <= d - 1. In order to get the minimal resolution from the canonical one, we need to blow down some exceptional curves, the number of blowing-downs is exactly that of fundamental cycles Z in the canonical resolution satisfying p(a)(Z) = 0 and Z(2) = -1.

Abstract:We introduce orbifold Euler numbers for normal surfaces with Q-divisors. These numbers behave multiplicatively under finite maps and in the log canonical case we prove that they satisfy the Bogomolov-Miyaoka-Yau type inequality. As a corollary we prove effective versions of Bogomolov's result on boundedness of rational curves in some surfaces of general type. Finally, we give some applications to singularities of plane curves.
