Abstract:A decentralized sewage treatment reactor was designed to treat wastewater in rural areas. To examine the factors in�uencing nitrogen removal, experiments were carried out at three levels of hydraulic surface load, three sludge concentrations, and three environment temperatures at low dissolved oxygen concentrations.e rate of denitri�cation decreased, and the rate of nitri�cation increased as the surface load rose. e maximum denitri�cation rate was 20.01 ± 3.02 g/(m⋅d) at a surface load of 1.11 ± 0.13m/(m⋅h). e total nitrogen (TN) removal, efficiency initially increased and then decreased as the sludge concentration rose. When the sludge concentration increased to 3.5 ± 0.3 g/L, the system showed a good level of TN removal and a denitri�cation rate of 28.58± 1.22 g/(m⋅d) was achieved. Low temperature had a negative effect on the removal and transformation of nitrogenous pollutants.

Abstract:A decentralized sewage treatment reactor was designed to treat wastewater in rural areas. The rate of denitrification decreased, and the rate of nitrification increased as the surface load rose. The maximum denitrification rate was 20.01 ± 3.02 g/(m3·d) at a surface load of 1.11 ± 0.13 m3/(m2·h). The total nitrogen (TN) removal, efficiency initially increased and then decreased as the sludge concentration rose. When the sludge concentration increased to 3.5 ± 0.3 g/L, the system showed a good level of TN removal and a denitrification rate of 28.58 ± 1.22 g/(m3·d) was achieved. Low temperature had a negative effect on the removal and transformation of nitrogenous pollutants.

Research on Control Strategy of Internal-Loop Airlift Reactor for Shortcut Nitrification

Abstract:Orthogonal experiment was carried out to study the combined effects of operation parameters on the performance of shortcut nitrification in an internal-loop airlift reactor. The optimum operation parameters were temperature of 35℃, pH 8.0, dissolved oxygen concentration 1.0 mg/L, ammonia-N concentration 56 mg/L and hydraulic residence time 16 h. Among them, pH, temperature and dissolved oxygen concentration were significant factors. The experimental results suggested a new control strategy for shortcut nitrification, by which the operation of internal-loop airlift reactor for shortcut nitrification was optimized. The results of operation in 30 d showed that the reactor performance was steady with minimum [NO~-_2]/[NO~-_x] of 0.896, maximum value of 0.976 and average value of 0.945 in the effluent. The average [NO~-_2]/[NO~-_x] was far higher after optimization. The control strategy workes well to keep the reactor in steady operation and achieves high-efficiency of shortcut nitrification.
Effect of Low Ph on the Performance of High-loaded ANAMMOX Reactor

Abstract:Anaerobic ammonia oxidation (ANAMMOX) process is a new biotechnology for nitrogen removal and is promising in the wastewater treatment engineering. However, it should be combined with SHARON (single reactor high activity ammonia removal over nitrite) process because it needs nitrite released from the latter process. The performance of ANAMMOX process could be interfered by the low pH of effluent from SHARON process. The results show that the low pH shock has serious influence on the performance of ANAMMOX reactor with total nitrogen loading rate (NLR) between 9.3～27.7 kg·(m3·d)-1. But the influence of low pH shock could be alleviated by using recirculation or higher nitrogen loading rate. The effect of low pH on ANAMMOX reactor is mainly caused by the inhibitions of acidity and free nitrous acid, between them, the inhibition of acidity is even more serious. It was proved that, according to the injured degree, the performance of the ANAMMOX reactor deteriorated by low pH shock can be restored by taking strategies of stopping the feeding of the reactor, flushing the reactor with fresh water, and adding alkali solution into the reactor, respectively.
Change of Ammonia Escape Rate and SO3 Conversion Rate of SCR Denitration in Full Load Range

Abstract:It is inevitable trend that the coal units should run with denitration in full load range and even in whole process. The effects of unit load and flue temperature on ammonia escape rate and SO3 conversion rate were studied on a 330MW subcritical unit with full load range experiments. And at the load of 165MW, the high pressure heaters were stopped to reduce the flue temperature merely. The NOx concentration of SCR inlet was controlled at 220mg/m3, and the denitration efficiency of SCR was controlled at 65% in full load range. With the load decreased, ammonia escape rate decreased first then increased at 165MW, and the SO3 conversion rate decreased linearly. When the flue temperature decreased from 319.5℃ to 288.3℃ with the high pressure heaters stopped at 165MW, the ammonia escape rate increased about one time, but it was still lower than which at 330MW. The ammonia escape rate was lower than the designed value of 3μL/L in full load range without any abnormal increasing. It was concluded that the load changing is not the main factor of ammonia escape rate increasing which could cause the air preheater blockage. According to the results, the SCR flue temperature limitation was adjusted from 300℃ to 290℃, to realize the SCR running in full load range. After the adjustment, the air preheater has been operated normally in about 1 year.

Abstract:In this paper, an automatic load change (ALC) system of cryogenic air separation process is developed to automatically and rapidly respond to the changing product demand from customers. In this automatic load change system, a two-layer framework integrated with nonlinear steady-state optimization and nonlinear model predictive control is designed. Nonlinear steady-state optimization based on homotopy-based backtracking method is performed offline to obtain optimal operating points at various load demands. Nonlinear regression models between optimal operating point and load demand are fitted, which can be easily evaluated online to avoid computational effort and convergence problem. To overcome the pronounced nonlinearities caused by load change, an operating trajectory linear parameter varying (LPV) model is identified to represent the nonlinear dynamic behavior of air separation process. A nonlinear model predictive control (MPC) based on LPV model is designed to drive air separation process rapidly to the optimal operating point of target load demand. Under this framework, material and energy balances of air separation process is actively established during the load change, and load transition time can be shortened. Industrial application results show that oxygen release ratio and unit electric consumption of air separation process are reduced by the implementation of ALC system. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. Control Strategy of Shortcut Nitrification.

Abstract:Shortcut nitrification for ammonium-rich wastewater is energy-saving and cost-effective procedure that has become one of the hotspots in the field of biological denitrogenation. An orthogonal experiment was performed to study the combined effects of operational parameters on the performance of internal-loop airlift bioreactor for shortcut nitrification. The optimum operational parameters for the shortcut nitrification were found as temperature 35 degrees C, pH 8.0, dissolved oxygen concentration 1.0 mg/L, ammonium concentration 4 mmol/L and HRT 16 h, which have different influence on the performance of shortcut nitrification reactor. The pH, temperature and dissolved oxygen concentration have significant bearing on the process. The results showed that the shortcut nitrification reactor could be successfully started up within 42 d, and the reactor performance is steady with minimum NO2-/NOx- of 85.2%, maximum 93.4% and average value of 91.4% in effluent. Based on the analysis of experimental data, a new control strategy named "priority + combination" for shortcut nitrification was suggested. Through this strategy, the startup and operation of shortcut nitrification for ammonium-rich sludge digester liquids were optimized. The control strategy works well to keep the reactor operation in steady state and in achieving high-efficiency for shortcut nitrification.

Abstract:Abstract The experimental study on the optimization of ammonia injection in the denitration system of a 300MW coal-fired unit in a power plant. Under the premise of meeting the ultra-low emission standards of environmental protection requirements, the ammonia injection amount of the denitration device can be reasonably adjusted by adjusting the opening degree of the manual ammonia valve. It significantly improves the uniformity of the NOx concentration distribution in the denitration system. It eliminates local ammonia slip peaks and reduces ammonia slip rate. The deviation of the NOx concentration distribution at the outlet of the denitration system decreased by 70.1% and 46.7%, respectively. The ammonia slip concentration decreased by an average of 0.80 mg/m3 and 1.05 mg/m3. Ammonia consumption decreased by 8 kg/h and 15 kg/h, respectively.

Abstract:Based on the condition of equipment and technical level of medium and small scale nitrogen fertilizer plants,increasing the net value of ammonia was considered as the goal of optimization study.The whole optimal problem was decomposed.Then the generalized predictive control (GPC) of the temperature of ammonia reactor hot spot for the stability of online-optimization adjustment,and boundary control for the single-direction factors were realized.Adaptive on-line optimization of operation conditions was successfully accomplished.The operation performance of ammonia reactor was improved,the net value of ammonia was increased by 0.4%,and system pressure dropped by 1.2 MPa.

Abstract:The evaluation system for the performance of denitrification device was established by taking the 1 000 MW coal-fired unit after ultra low emission transformation as an example .The operation ,reliability and stability of denitrification device was evaluated in detail . Results show that the qualified rates of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) inlet NO x concentration ,SCR outlet NO x concentration ,denitrification efficiency ,ammonia escape and pressure loss are 90 .45% ,92 .34% ,78 .98% ,92 .34% and 100 .00% , respectively ,while the corresponding evaluation standards are 300 mg/m3 、50 mg/m3 、85% 、3 × 10 - 6 and 600 Pa ,respectively .Substandard working conditions occurs at the operation state of variable and low load .The main reasons are that the response rate of spray ammonia signal is too slow ,that the oxygen content in the furnace is difficult to control and that the SCR inlet temperature is too also low .The average NO x concentration at SCR outlet after reformation decreases significantly ,even lower than 30 mg/m3 .The NO x concentration at the outlet of the chimney is stable and reliable with the qualified rate of 98 .74% , which is even higher than the designed value .

Abstract:In southern China, the inflow of water to wastewater treatment plants has a lower concentration of organic matter. This causes treatment plants to face issues in the denitrification and phosphorus removal processes such as deficient carbon sources, high energy consumption, and unstable nitrogen removal. To resolve these issues, we propose the reconstruction of the internal reflux port, improvement of the internal reflux ratio to 200%, the addition of carbon source to anoxic zone, and the addition of phosphorus removal agents in secondary settling tank. The results of study show significantly improved efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus removal, which ensures the stability of subsequent supply of reused water.

Abstract:Organic Rankine cycle (ORC) systems often experience a decline in operating performance when subjected to off-design conditions. To address this issue, an emerging method for improving the ORC performance under variable operating conditions is the use of composition adjustment through liquid-separation condensation. In the present study, an experimental facility of a 1 kW zeotropic ORC system that allows for composition adjustment based on liquid-separation condensation is developed. A composition adjustment strategy based on the proposed composition adjustment system is developed, and the stability and effectiveness of the composition adjustment system are experimentally investigated. An experimental comparison is conducted to demonstrate the superiority of the composition-adjustable ORC over the conventional composition-fixed ORC under variable operating conditions. The results indicate that the proposed composition adjustment system can effectively separate mixtures at different compositions within a short period of time. Under variable operating conditions, the composition of R134a/R245fa in the ORC is effectively adjusted from 0.300/0.700 to 0.172/0.828 using the proposed composition adjustment system. As a result, the net power output of the composition-adjustable ORC is found to be 4.79–9.71% higher than that of the composition-fixed ORC.

Abstract:Optimization experiment of SCR denitrification technologies on a 300MW unit was conducted. Adjustment of ammonia injection quantity of corresponding AIG was conducted after measuring the SCR export NOx concentration field in 250MW load, the distribution uniformity of NOx volume fraction at the outlet of both reactor A and B was improved significantly, where the relative standard deviation of NOx reduced respectively from 29.83% to 13.01% and 24.54% to 9.26%, simultaneously, the amount of ammonia escape of A, B reactor decrease respectively by 24.76%, 19.45%. The results of optimization experiment show that, optimal adjustment can improve the NOx concentration distribution, reduce the amount of ammonia escape in a certain extent, and judge whether the catalytic activity of the regional catalyzer is in good condition. As to the area where catalyst is ineffective, the effect of optimization experiment is limited, the catalyzer should be the timely replacement, so as to better protect downstream equipment.
Research on influencing factors and operation optimization for CSTR partial nitrification at normal temperature

Abstract:In order to achieve and maintain stable performance of partial nitrification, the influencing factors of partial nitrification and optimum conditions were studied using synthetic wastewater with low ammonia nitrogen concentration at normal temperature in a CSTR. Results showed that under the condition of HRT=(3.0±0.2)h, DO=0.40~0.50 mg/L, R=20%~30%, the average ammonia nitrogen removal rate reached 53%, NO2 --N/NH4 +-N in the effluent of partial nitrification system reached 1.11:1 which was suitable for the long-term run of this system. Shortening the HRT continuously would make a great loss of sludge, then affect the performance of CSTR. DO=0.50 mg/L was critical for nitrite accumulation under optimal conditions; the different values of influent and effluent pH can well characterize the effluent ratio of NO2 --N/NH4 +-N.
Revamp of Atmospheric Absorption Section of Urea Plant

Abstract:Revamping of the atmospheric absorption section in a urea plant reduces the gaseous emissions in the low pressure section, reduces raw materials consumption and increases production. So the economic benefits are increased. 1. General The urea plant of Hebei Cangzhou Dahua Group Co., Ltd. is a large-sized urea production plant with capacity of 1620 mtpd, imported in 1973 and using CO2 stripping process. In the original design, the off-gas from the low-pressure (LP) section is directly vented. Via a technical revamp of the plant in 1988, the LP section is provided with an atmospheric absorption section, which can absorb the off-gas from the LP section and the hydrolysis section at atmospheric pressure. After the plant modifications were implemented and put into service, the plant had a lot of technical problems, such as much liquid in the vent pipe, poor performance in scrubbing and absorption. Additionally after increasing the plant load the incremental vent flows of the LP and hydrolysis sections resulted in higher energy consumption figures. To improve the absorption performance of the atmospheric absorption section, reduce the consumption figures and the amount of off-gas vented, and to increase economic and environmental benefits, the urea plant was again technically revamped in 2011: The atmospheric absorption section was upgraded as the LP one. As a result, the said problems have been successfully solved. 2. Production before Revamp The atmospheric absorption section of the urea plant consists of the atmospheric absorption column (303E), the atmospheric absorption column cooler (304C) and the atmospheric absorption feed pump (705J). The diluted aqueous ammonia from the aqueous ammonia tank (701F) is sent by 705J to the top of 303E, and flows through the packed bed to absorb the ammonia in gas phase from the LP and hydrolysis sections; the absorption solution drained from the bottom of 303E is cooled by 304C and then send back to the aqueous ammonia tank; the off-gas in the vent pipe at the top of 303E is sent to the vent stack for venting. Abstract:Dissolved oxygen (DO) is an important parameter for partial nitritation-anammox process but previously not evaluated for the treatment of digested biosolid thickening lagoon supernatant. Using intermittent aeration we investigated nitrogen removal from such supernatant in an integrated fixed film activated sludge (IFAS) process operated under a variety of hydraulic retention times (1.2-2.5 days). The overall nitrogen removal rate (NRR) was significantly increased (P < 0.01) from 0.26 ± 0.01 kg N m-3 d-1 at HRT of 2.5 days to 0.50 ± 0.01 kg N m-3 d-1 at HRT of 1.2 day. Higher nitrogen loading rates needed higher DO concentrations in order to cope with the increased oxygen demand by ammonium-oxidizing bacteria (AOB). Enhancing the DO concentration from 0.18 mg L-1 to 0.35 mg L-1 improved AOB activity. However, when the bulk liquid DO was in the range of 0.28-0.35 mg L-1, anammox activity inhibition was observed associated with a significant free nitrous acid (FNA) accumulation (21.70 ± 4.10 μg L-1). Batch studies confirmed the inhibition of anammox activity under high DO conditions (0.28-0.35 mg L-1). Aeration strategies, other than increasing the DO set points, should be investigated in order to be able to work at high nitrogen loading rates without compromising anammox activity.

Effects of Operation Mode on Self-Alkalization of High-Load Denitrifying Reactor.

Abstract:To study the alkalization issue and its potential effects on high-load denitrifying system, the effects of operation mode on self-alkalization of high-load denitrifying reactor were investigated. The results showed that both the increase of substrate concentration and decrease of hydraulic retention time (HRT) can induce notable self-alkalization of high-load denitrification reactor (with the nitrogen loading rate (NLR) higher than 25 kg N m(-3) d(-1)). The effluent pH surpassed the 9.20 when the influent pH value was 7.0 +/- 0.1. The self-alkalization of denitrification process originated from the nitrate reduction, while the methanol oxidation could alleviate the self-alkalization by neutralizing OH- and setting up a buffering system of HCO3-/CO32-. At the same NLR, the self-alkalization induced by increase of substrate concentration was remarkably stronger than that induced by decrease of HRT. Keeping the nitrate concentration below inhibition concentration improved the performance of high-load reactor and alleviated the self-alkalization. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
Controlled-release urea application and optimized nitrogen applied strategy reduced nitrogen leaching and maintained grain yield of paddy fields in Northwest China

Abstract:Nitrogen loss from paddy fields contributes to most of the nitrogen pollution load in the Ningxia Yellow River irrigation area, threatening the water quality of the Yellow River. Consequently, optimizing the nitrogen management practices in this area is essential, which can maintain paddy grain productivity and reduce nitrogen loss simultaneously. Five treatments with different nitrogen application rates and nitrogen fertilizer types were set in this study, including conventional urea application with zero nitrogen application rate (CK, 0 kg hm -2 ), nitrogen expert-based fertilization application strategy (NE, 210 kg hm -2 ), optimized nitrogen fertilizer application strategy recommended by local government (OPT, 240 kg hm -2 ), and farmer's experience-based nitrogen fertilizer application strategy (FP, 300 kg hm -2 ), and controlled-release urea application (CRU, 180 kg hm -2 ). The data from one growth season field experiment in 2021 revealed the dynamics of nitrogen concentration, paddy yield and its nitrogen uptake characteristic, and nitrogen balance in the paddy field under different nitrogen application practices. Most nitrogen leaching was observed during the seedling and tillering stages in the form of nitrate nitrogen (NO 3 – N). Compared with the FP, the CRU and OPT significantly reduced the nitrogen concentrations of total nitrogen (TN), ammonium nitrogen (NH 4 + -N), and NO 3 – N in the surface and soil water and reduced the nitrogen leaching at 100 cm soil depth. Meanwhile, the paddy grain yield in CRU (7737 kg hm -2 ) and OPT (7379 kg hm -2 ) was not significantly decreased compared with FP (7918 kg hm -2 ), even though the nitrogen uptake by grain and straw was higher in FP (135 kg hm -2 ) than in other treatments (52.10~126.40 kg hm -2 ). However, the grain yield in NE (6972 kg hm -2 ) was decreased compared with the FP. The differences in grain yield among these treatments were mainly attributed to the ear number and grain number changes. Also, the highest nitrogen use efficiency (40.14%), apparent nitrogen efficiency (19.53 kg kg -1 ), and nitrogen partial productivity (43.98 kg kg -1 ) were identified in CRU than in other treatments. Abstract:An innovative adsorption/nitrification/denitrification/sludge-hydrolysis wastewater treatment process (ENRS) characterized by carbon source manipulation with a biological adsorption unit and a sludge hydrolysis unit was developed to enhance nitrogen removal and reduce sludge production for municipal wastewater treatment. The system presented good performance in pollutants removal, yielding the effluent with average COD, NH4+-N, TN and TP of 48.5, 0.6, 13.2 and 1.0 mg/L, respectively. Sixty percent of the total carbon source in the influent was concentrated and separated by the quick adsorption of activated sludge, providing the possibilities of reusing waste carbon source in the denitrification tank and accumulating nitrobacteria in the nitrification tank. Low temperature of 6-15 degrees C and high hydraulic loading rate of 3.0-15.0 m(3)/d did not affect NH4+-N removal performance, yielding the NH4+-N of lower 1.0 mg/L in the effluent. Furthermore, 50% of the residual sludge in the ENRS system could be transformed into soluble COD (SCOD) by alkaline thermal hydrolysis with temperature of 60 degrees C and pH of 11, and the hydrolyzed carbon could completely substitute methanol as a good quality carbon to support high efficient denitrification.
