Abstract: Recently published paper [PRL 114, 147701 (2015)] contains several misleading statements and misinterpretations of known facts. The main massage of the paper [PRL 114, 147701 (2015)] is as follows: "We have shown that explicit symmetry breaking in the structural configuration of charges leads to symmetry breaking of the electric field which results in electromagnetic radiation due to non-conservative current within a localized region of space and time" seems to transcend mere empiricism, touching the theoretical foundations of electromagnetism. Moreover, basic mistakes are numerous in this article and its main claim is wrong. Below we prove it citing the paper and arguing against it.

Abstract:At the interface of an s-wave superconductor and a three-dimensional topological insulator, Majorana zero modes and Majorana helical states have been proposed to exist respectively around magnetic vortices and geometrical edges. Here we first show that randomly distributed magnetic impurities at such an interface will induce bound states that broaden into impurity bands inside (but near the edges of) the superconducting gap, which remains open unless the impurity concentration is too high. Next we find that an increase in the superconducting gap suppresses both the oscillation magnitude and the period of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction between two magnetic impurities. Within a mean-field approximation, the ferromagnetic Curie temperature is found to be essentially independent of the superconducting gap, an intriguing phenomenon due to a compensation effect between the short-range ferromagnetic and long-range antiferromagnetic interactions. The existence of robust superconductivity and persistent ferromagnetism at the interface allows realization of a novel topological phase transition from a nonchiral to a chiral superconducting state at sufficiently low temperatures, providing a new platform for topological quantum computation.

Abstract:Conventional phonon–electron interaction induces either triplet or one of two (degenerate) singlet pairing states in time reversal and inversion invariant 3D Dirac semi-metal. Investigation of the order parameters and energies of these states at zero temperature in a wide range of values of chemical potential µ , the effective electron–electron coupling constant λ and Debye energy T D demonstrates that when the exchange interaction is neglected the singlet always prevails, however, in signiﬁcant portions of the (µ, λ, T D ) parameter space the energy difference is very small. This means that interactions that are small, but discriminate between the spin singlet and the spin triplet, are important in order to determine the nature of the superconducting order there. The best candidate for such an interaction in the materials under consideration is the exchange (the Stoner term) characterized by constant λ ex . We show that at values of λ ex , much smaller than ones creating Stoner instability to ferromagnetism λ ex ∼ 1, the triplet pairing becomes energetically favored over the singlet ones. The 3D quantum critical point at µ = 0 is considered in detail. This can be realized experimentally in optically trapped cold atom systems.

Abstract:A magnetic field H is expelled from the interior of a metal becoming superconducting. Everybody thinks the phenomenon is perfectly well understood, particularly scientists with the highest H-index think that. I don't. I will explain why I believe that without Holes, conceptualized by Heisenberg in 1931 fifty years after Hall had first detected them in some metals, neither magnetic field expulsion nor anything else about superconductivity can be understood. I have been a Heretic in the field of superconductivity for over 30 years, and believe that Hans' little story about the emperor perfectly captures the essence of the situation. Abstract:We investigate the origin of Abelian and non-Abelian type magnetic instabilities induced by the Fermi surface mismatch between the two pairing fermions in a nonrelativistic model. The Abelian type instability occurs only in a gapless state and the Meissner mass squared becomes divergent at the gapless-gapped transition point, while the non-Abelian type instability happens in both gapless and gapped states and the divergence vanishes. The non-Abelian type instability can be cured in a strong coupling region.

Ferromagnetic Impurity Induced Majorana Zero Mode in Iron-Based Superconductors

Abstract:Recent experiments reported the puzzling zero-energy modes associated with ferromagnetic impurities in some iron-based superconductors with topological band structures. Here, we show that a sufficiently strong exchange coupling between a ferromagnetic impurity and a substrate can trigger a quantum phase transition, beyond which the phase of the topological surface superconducting order parameter around the impurity acquires a sign change. In such a case, we prove that besides a pair of impurity induced trivial Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states, a degenerate pair of Majorana modes can be induced at the boundary separating the two sign-change regimes and trapped around the impurity in the topological surface superconducting state. Furthermore, we show that our theory can explain the controversial observations and confusing features of the zero-energy modes from recent experiments in some iron-based superconductors.

Abstract:The unusual magnetic materials are significant in both science and technology. However, because of the strongly correlated effects, it is difficult to understand their novel properties from theoretical aspects. Holographic duality offers a new approach to understanding such systems from gravity side. This paper will give a brief review of our recent works on the applications of holographic duality in understanding unusual magnetic materials. Some quantitative compare between holographic results and experimental data will be shown and some predictions from holographic duality models will be discussed.

Abstract:In a recent Letter, Serbyn et al. [A] investigated thermomagnetic effects above the superconducting transition and generalized previous works for arbitrary magnetic fields and temperatures. While the results of [A] have been confirmed in [B], we have strong objections: (i) According to our results [C], the linear response calculation does not require any correction from the magnetization currents; (ii) The result of [A,B] is giant, because unlike the normal Fermi liquid, it is of zero order in the particle-hole asymmetry. Changing the interaction constant in the Cooper channel leads to ridiculously large results even for nonsuperconducting metals; (iii)Derived in [A] the Einstein-type relation for thermomagnetic coefficient contradicts to text-book results.
