Abstract:In this paper I give a combinatorial characterization of all the Cohen-Macaulay weighted chordal graphs. In particular, it is shown that a weighted chordal graph is Cohen- Macaulay if and only if it is unmixed.

Abstract:Herzog, Hibi, and Zheng classified the Cohen-Macaulay edge ideals of chordal graphs. In this paper, we classify Cohen-Macaulay edge ideals of (vertex) weighted oriented chordal and simplicial graphs, a more general class of monomial ideals. In particular, we show that the Cohen-Macaulay property of these ideals is equivalent to the unmixed one and hence, independent of the underlying field.

Abstract:We introduce a new family of graphs, namely, hybrid graphs. There are infinitely many hybrid graphs associated to a single graph. We show that every hybrid graph associated to a given graph is Cohen Macaulay. Furthermore, we show that every CohenMacaulay chordal graph is a hybrid graph.

Abstract:We characterize unmixed and Cohen-Macaulay edge-weighted edge ideals of very well-covered graphs. We also provide examples of oriented graphs which have unmixed and non-Cohen-Macaulay vertex-weighted edge ideals, while the edge ideal of their underlying graph is Cohen-Macaulay. This disproves a conjecture posed by Pitones, Reyes and Toledo.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. The study of the edge ideal [math] of a weighted oriented graph [math] with underlying graph [math] started in the context of Reed–Muller type codes. We generalize some Cohen–Macaulay constructions for [math], which Villarreal gave for edge ideals of simple graphs. Our constructions can be used to produce large classes of Cohen–Macaulay weighted oriented edge ideals. We use these constructions to classify all the Cohen–Macaulay weighted oriented edge ideals, whose underlying graph is a cycle. We also show that [math] is Cohen–Macaulay if and only if [math] is unmixed and [math] is Cohen–Macaulay, where [math] denotes the cycle of length [math]. Miller generalized the concept of Alexander dual ideals of square-free monomial ideals to arbitrary monomial ideals, and in that direction, we study the Alexander dual of [math] and its conditions to be Cohen–Macaulay.

Abstract:The chordal ring (CR) graphs are a well-known family of graphs used to model some interconnection networks for computer systems in which all nodes are in a cycle. Generalizing the CR graphs, in this paper, we introduce the families of chordal multi-ring (CMR), chordal ring mixed (CRM), and chordal multi-ring mixed (CMRM) graphs. In the case of mixed graphs, we can have edges (without direction) and arcs (with direction). The chordal ring and chordal ring mixed graphs are bipartite and 3-regular. They consist of a number $r$ (for $r\geq 1$) of (undirected or directed) cycles with some edges (the chords) joining them. In particular, for CMR, when $r=1$, that is, with only one undirected cycle, we obtain the known families of chordal ring graphs. Here, we use plane tessellations to represent our chordal multi-ring graphs. This allows us to obtain their maximum number of vertices for every given diameter. Besides, we computationally obtain their minimum diameter for any value of the number of vertices. Moreover, when seen as a lift graph (also called voltage graph) of a base graph on Abelian groups, we obtain closed formulas for the spectrum, that is, the eigenvalue multi-set of its adjacency matrix.

Abstract:Chordal graphs are important in structural graph theory. Chordal digraphs are a digraph analogue of chordal graphs and have been a subject of active studies recently. Unlike chordal graphs, chordal digraphs lack many structural properties such as forbidden subdigraph or representation characterizations. In this paper we introduce the notion of semi-strict chordal digraphs which form a class strictly between chordal digraphs and chordal graphs. Semi-strict chordal digraphs have rich structural properties. We characterize semi-strict chordal digraphs in terms of knotting graphs, a notion analogous to the one introduced by Gallai for the study of comparability graphs. We also give forbidden subdigraph characterizations of semi-strict chordal digraphs within the classes of locally semicomplete digraphs and weakly quasi-transitive digraphs.

Abstract:In this article, we characterize Cohen-Macaulay permutation graphs. In particular, we show that a permutation graph is Cohen-Macaulay if and only if it is well-covered and there exists a unique way of partitioning its vertex set into $r$ disjoint maximal cliques, where $r$ is the cardinality of a maximal independent set of the graph. We also provide some sufficient conditions for a comparability graph to be a uniquely partially orderable (UPO) graph.

Abstract:In the present paper, it is proved that any complete local domain of mixed characteristic has a weakly almost Cohen-Macaulay algebra in the sense that some system of parameters is a weakly almost regular sequence, which is a notion defined via a valuation. The central idea of this result originates from the main statement obtained by Heitmann to prove the Monomial Conjecture in dimension 3. In fact, A weakly almost Cohen-Macaulay algebra is constructed over the absolute integral closure of a complete local domain by applying the methods of Fontaine rings and Witt vectors. A connection of the main theorem with the Monomial Conjecture is also discussed.

In particular, we prove that if [math] is an almost Cohen–Macaulay bipartite graph with at least one vertex of positive degree, then there is a vertex of [math]. In particular, if [math] is an almost Cohen–Macaulay bipartite graph and [math] is a vertex of degree one of [math] and [math] its adjacent vertex, then [math] is almost Cohen–Macaulay. Also, we show that an unmixed Ferrers graph is almost Cohen–Macaulay if and only if it is connected in codimension two. Moreover, we give some examples.

Abstract:A graphic arrangement is a subarrangement of the braid arrangement whose set of hyperplanes is determined by an undirected graph. A classical result due to Stanley, Edelman and Reiner states that a graphic arrangement is free if and only if the corresponding graph is chordal, i.e., the graph has no chordless cycle with four or more vertices. In this article we extend this result by proving that the module of logarithmic derivations of a graphic arrangement has projective dimension at most one if and only if the corresponding graph is weakly chordal, i.e., the graph and its complement have no chordless cycle with five or more vertices.

Abstract:The main purpose of this note is to extend and establish a new approach to the concept of (relative) Cohen-Macaulayness, by investigating the cohomological dimension as well as the depth of a pair of modules over a commutative Noetherian ring. The notion also largely extends the cohomologically complete intersection property of Hellus and Schenzel. As crucial tools, we use Herzog's theory of generalized local cohomology along with spectral sequence techniques. We also provide byproducts concerning two classical problems in homological commutative algebra.

On Chow weight structures for $cdh$-motives with integral coefficients

Abstract:The main goal of this paper is to define a certain Chow weight structure $w_{Chow}$ on the category $DM_c(S)$ of (constructible) $cdh$-motives over an equicharacteristic scheme $S$. In contrast to the previous papers of D. Hébert and the first author on weights for relative motives (with rational coefficients), we can achieve our goal for motives with integral coefficients (if $\operatorname{char}S=0$; if $\operatorname{char}S=p>0$ then we consider motives with $\mathbb{Z}[\frac{1}{p}]$-coefficients). We prove that the properties of the Chow weight structures that were previously established for $\mathbb{Q}$-linear motives can be carried over to this "integral" context (and we generalize some of them using certain new methods). In this paper we mostly study the version of $w_{Chow}$ defined via "gluing from strata"; this enables us to define Chow weight structures for a wide class of base schemes. As a consequence, we certainly obtain certain (Chow)-weight spectral sequences and filtrations for any (co)homology of motives.

Abstract:Let (V, p) be a normal surface singularity. Let pi : (M, E) -> (V, p) be a minimal good resolution of V, such that the irreducible components Ei of E = pi-1(p) are nonsingular and have only normal crossings. There is a natural weighted dual graph I' associated to E. Along with the genera of the Ei, I' fully describes the topology and differentiable structure of the embedding of E in M. Intuitively, normal surface singularity has simplest topology if all the irreducible curves in the exceptional set are smooth rational curves with self-intersection number -2. It can be shown that these are necessary ADE-singularities. In our previous work we classify all the weighted dual graphs of E = boolean OR ni=1Ei such that one of the curves Ei is -3 curve, and the rest all are -2 curves. This is a natural generalization of Artin's classification of rational triple points. However there is no general method to classify or examine all possible weighted dual graphs of E = boolean OR ni=1Ei. In this article, we introduce a new concept, component factor, which is useful and computable for classifying weighted dual graphs. Based on it, we present a criteria for verifying whether a graph is the weighted dual graph associated to E. As a result, we give a complete classification of weighted dual graphs consist of -2 curves and exactly one -4 curve.

Abstract:We prove a duality theorem for Cohen--Macaulay simplicial complexes. This is a generalisation of Poincaré Duality, framed in the language of combinatorial sheaves. Our treatment is self-contained and accessible for readers with a working knowledge of simplicial complexes and (co)homology. The main motivation is a link with Bieri-Eckmann duality for discrete groups, which is explored in a companion paper.
