Abstract:The notion of weakly d-Koszul module, which is a generalization of d-Koszul module, is introduced. The authors show that a finitely generated graded module M over a d-Koszul algebra is a weakly d-Koszul module if and only if it admits a tower of submodules: 0(?)U0(?)U1(?)…(?)Up= M, such that all Ui/Ui-1 are d-Koszul modules. Let A be a d-Koszul algebra and M a weakly d-Koszul module over A, it turns out that the Koszul duale(M) = ExtA*(M, A0) of M is generated in degree 0 as a graded ExtA*(A0, A0) module.

Abstract:We explain how Cohen--Macaulay classifying spaces are ubiquitous among discrete groups that satisfy Bieri--Eckmann duality, and compare Bieri--Eckmann duality to duality results for Cohen--Macaulay complexes. We use this comparison to give a description of the dualizing module of ${\rm{Out}}(F_N)$ in terms of the local cohomology cosheaf of the spine of Outer space.

Abstract:This is a survey article about properties of Cohen-Macaulay modules over surface singularities. We discuss various results on the Macaulayfication functor, reflexive modules over simple, quotient and minimally elliptic singularities, geometric and algebraic McKay Correspondence. Finally, we describe matrix factorizations corresponding to the indecomposable Cohen-Macaulay modules over the non-isolated singularities $A_\infty$ and $D_\infty$.

Abstract:We investigate Cohen-Macaulay representations of quotient singularities $R:=l[[x_1,\cdots,x_d]]^G$ where $l$ is a field and $G$ is a finite group acting on $l[[x_1,\cdots,x_d]]$ as a ring, not necessarily as an $l$-algebra, with $|G|$ not divided by ${\rm char}\, l$. In fact, if we put $k:=l^G$, then we may assume that $G$ is a subgroup of $GL_d(l)\rtimes{\rm Gal}(l/k)$. We show that $R$ has a generator giving an NCCR and therefore when $d=2$, it is of finite Cohen-Macaulay type. Additionally, we completely describe its Auslander-Reiten quiver, which is often non-simply laced, as a quotient of a certain quiver. Moreover, we also prove that two-dimensional rings of finite Cohen-Macaulay type of equicharacteristic zero are precisely quotient singularities of this form, which generalizes Esnault and Auslander's result. Combining these results, we prove that the quivers that may arise as the Auslander-Reiten quiver of a two-dimensional Gorenstein ring of finite Cohen-Macaulay type of equicharacteristic zero are either doubles of extended Dynkin diagrams or ones having loops. To accomplish these, we establish two results which are of independent interest. First, we prove the existence of $(d-1)$-almost split sequences for arbitrary Cohen-Macaulay normal rings having NCCR which are not necessarily isolated singularities. Second, we make it possible to determine simple modules over skew group algebras by relating them to those over certain group algebras.

Abstract:Let H denote a finite index subgroup of the modular group Γ and let ρ denote a finite-dimensional complex representation of H . Let M ( ρ ) denote the collection of holomorphic vector-valued modular forms for ρ and let M ( H ) denote the collection of modular forms on H . Then M ( ρ ) is a Z-graded M ( H )-module. It has been proven that M ( ρ ) may not be projective as a M ( H )-module. We prove that M ( ρ ) is Cohen-Macaulay as a M ( H )-module. We also explain how to apply this result to prove that if M ( H ) is a polynomial ring, then M ( ρ ) is a free M ( H )-module of rank dim ρ .

Abstract:We introduce an analog of the Ziegler spectrum for maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over a complete Cohen-Macaulay local ring. We define a topology on the space of isomorphism classes of indecomposable maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules and investigate the topological structure. We also calculate the Cantor-Bendixson rank for a ring which is of CM_+-finite representation type.

Abstract:Over a Cohen-Macaulay (CM) local ring, we characterize those modules that can be obtained as a direct limit of finitely generated maximal CM modules. We point out two consequences of this characterization: (1) Every balanced big CM module, in the sense of Hochster, can be written as a direct limit of small CM modules. In analogy with Govorov and Lazard's characterization of flat modules as direct limits of finitely generated free modules, one can view this as a "structure theorem" for balanced big CM modules. (2) Every finitely generated module has a preenvelope with respect to the class of finitely generated maximal CM modules. This result is, in some sense, dual to the existence of maximal CM approximations, which is proved by Auslander and Buchweitz.

Abstract:By Auslander's algebraic McKay correspondence, the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a simple singularity is equivalent to the $1$-cluster category of the path algebra of a Dynkin quiver (i.e. the orbit category of the derived category by the action of the Auslander-Reiten translation). In this paper we give a systematic method to construct a similar type of triangle equivalence between the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a Gorenstein isolated singularity $R$ and the generalized (higher) cluster category of a finite dimensional algebra $\Lambda$. The key role is played by a bimodule Calabi-Yau algebra, which is the higher Auslander algebra of $R$ as well as the higher preprojective algebra of an extension of $\Lambda$. As a byproduct, we give a triangle equivalence between the stable category of graded Cohen-Macaulay $R$-modules and the derived category of $\Lambda$. Our main results apply in particular to a class of cyclic quotient singularities and to certain toric affine threefolds associated with dimer models.

Abstract:Auslander and Reiten called a finite dimensional algebra $A$ over a field Cohen-Macaulay if there is an $A$-bimodule $W$ which gives an equivalence between the category of finitely generated $A$-modules of finite projective dimension and the category of finitely generated $A$-modules of finite injective dimension. For example, Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebras and algebras with finitistic dimension zero on both sides are Cohen-Macaulay, and tensor products of Cohen-Macaulay algebras are again Cohen-Macaulay. They seem to be all of the known examples of Cohen-Macaulay algebras. In this paper, we give the first non-trivial class of Cohen-Macaulay algebras by showing that all contracted preprojective algebras of Dynkin type are Cohen-Macaulay. As a consequence, for each simple singularity $R$ and a maximal Cohen-Macaulay $R$-module $M$, the stable endomorphism algebra $\underline{End}_R(M)$ is Cohen-Macaulay. We also give a negative answer to a question of Auslander-Reiten asking whether the category $CM A$ of Cohen-Macaulay $A$-modules coincides with the category of $d$-th syzygies, where $d\ge1$ is the injective dimension of $W$. In fact, if $A$ is a Cohen-Macaulay algebra that is additionally $d$-Gorenstein in the sense of Auslander, then $CM A$ always coincides with the category of $d$-th syzygies.

Abstract:Let $A$ be the ring of integers of global field $K$. Let $G \subseteq GL_2(A)$ be a finite group. Let $G$ act linearly on $R = A[X,Y]$ (fixing $A$). Let $R^G$ be the ring of invariants. In the equi-characteristic case we prove $R^G$ is Cohen-Macaulay. In mixed characteristic case we prove that if for all primes $p$ dividing $|G|$ the Sylow $p$-subgroup of $G$ has exponent $p$ then $R^G$ is Cohen-Macaulay. We prove a similar case if for all primes $p$ dividing $|G|$ the prime $p$ is un-ramified in $K$.

Abstract:The main purpose of this note is to extend and establish a new approach to the concept of (relative) Cohen-Macaulayness, by investigating the cohomological dimension as well as the depth of a pair of modules over a commutative Noetherian ring. The notion also largely extends the cohomologically complete intersection property of Hellus and Schenzel. As crucial tools, we use Herzog's theory of generalized local cohomology along with spectral sequence techniques. We also provide byproducts concerning two classical problems in homological commutative algebra.

Abstract:Parkash and Kour obtained a new version of Cohen's theorem for Noetherian modules, which states that a finitely generated $R$-module $M$ is Noetherian if and only if for every prime ideal $\mathfrak{p}$ of $R$ with Ann$(M)\subseteq \mathfrak{p}$, there exists a finitely generated submodule $N^\mathfrak{p}$ of $M$ such that $\mathfrak{p} M\subseteq N^\mathfrak{p}\subseteq M(\mathfrak{p})$, where $M(\mathfrak{p})=\{x\in M\mid sx\in \mathfrak{p} M $ for some $s\in R \setminus \mathfrak{p} \}$. In this paper, we generalize the Parkash and Kour version of Cohen's theorem for Noetherian modules to those for $S$-Noetherian modules and $w$-Noetherian modules.

Abstract:In this paper, we aim to obtain some results under the condition that the dual of a module has finite Gorenstein dimension. In this direction we derive results involving vanishing of Ext as well as the freeness or totally reflexivity of modules. For instance, we provide a generalization of a celebrated theorem by Evans and Griffith, obtain criteria for the totally reflexivity of modules over Cohen-Macaulay rings as well as of locally totally modules reflexive on the punctured spectrum, and recover a result by Araya. Moreover, we prove that the Auslander-Reiten conjecture holds true for all finitely generated modules $M$ over a Noetherian local ring $R$ such that $\operatorname{G-dim}_R(\operatorname{Hom}_R(M,R))<\infty$ and $\operatorname{pd}_R(\operatorname{Hom}_R(M,M))<\infty$. Additionally, we derive Gorenstein criteria under the condition that the dual of certain modules is of finite Gorenstein dimension. Furthermore, we explore some applications in the theory of the modules of Kähler differentials of order $n\geq 1$, specifically concerning the $k$-torsionfreeness of these modules and the Herzog-Vasconcelos's conjecture.

Abstract:We introduce generalized global Weyl modules and relate their graded characters to nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials and nonsymmetric $q$-Whittaker functions. In particular, we show that the series part of the nonsymmetric $q$-Whittaker function is a generating function for the graded characters of generalized global Weyl modules.

Abstract:We define a congruence module $\Psi_A(M)$ associated to a surjective $\mathcal O$-algebra morphism $\lambda\colon A \to \mathcal{O}$, with $\mathcal{O}$ a discrete valuation ring, $A$ a complete noetherian local $\mathcal{O}$-algebra regular at $\mathfrak{p}$, the kernel of $\lambda$, and $M$ a finitely generated $A$-module. We establish a numerical criterion for $M$ to have a free direct summand over $A$ of positive rank. It is in terms of the lengths of $\Psi_A(M)$ and the torsion part of $\mathfrak{p}/\mathfrak{p}^2$. It generalizes results of Wiles, Lenstra, and Diamond, that deal with the case when the codimension of $\mathfrak{p}$ is zero. Number theoretic applications include integral (non-minimal) $R=\mathbb T$ theorems in situations of positive defect conditional on certain standard conjectures. Here $R$ is a deformation ring parametrizing certain Galois representations and $\mathbb T$ is a Hecke algebra. An example is a modularity lifting for 2-dimensional $\ell$-adic Galois representations over an imaginary quadratic field. The proofs combine our commutative algebra results with a generalization due to Calegari and Geraghty of the patching method of Wiles and Taylor--Wiles and level raising arguments that go back to Ribet. The results provide new evidence in favor of the intriguing, and as yet fledgling, torsion analog of the classical Langlands correspondence. We also prove unconditional integral $R=\mathbb T$ results for Hecke algebras $\mathbb T$ acting on weight one cohomology of Shimura curves over $\mathbb Q$. This leads to a torsion Jacquet--Langlands correspondence comparing integral Hecke algebras acting on weight one cohomology of Shimura curves and modular curves. In this case the cohomology has abundant torsion and so our correspondence cannot be deduced by means of the classical Jacquet--Langlands correspondence.

Abstract:In Benkart and Ondrus (Represent. Theory 13 , 141–164 2009 ), Benkart and Ondrus investigated Whittaker modules for generalized Weyl algebras. Following the results of Benkart and Ondrus, we study Whittaker modules for three special kinds of generalized Weyl algebras in this note, including Rueda’s algebras, the algebras U q ( f ( K )) and U q ( f ( K , H )). In particular, we acquire the centers of the last two classes of algebras before giving an explicit description of their simple Whittaker modules.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a field, $B$ a simplicial affine semigroup, and $C(B)$ the corresponding cone. We will present a decomposition of $K[B]$ into a direct sum of certain monomial ideals, which generalizes a construction by Hoa and St\"uckrad. We will use this decomposition to construct a semigroup $\tilde B$ with $B \subseteq \tilde B \subseteq C(B)$ such that $K[\tilde B]$ is Cohen-Macaulay with the property: $\tilde B \subseteq \hat B$ for every affine semigroup $\hat B$ with $B \subseteq \hat B \subseteq C(B)$ such that $K[\hat B]$ is Cohen-Macaulay.
