Abstract:We introduce a new family of graphs, namely, hybrid graphs. There are infinitely many hybrid graphs associated to a single graph. We show that every hybrid graph associated to a given graph is Cohen Macaulay. Furthermore, we show that every CohenMacaulay chordal graph is a hybrid graph.

Abstract:In this paper I give a combinatorial characterization of all the Cohen-Macaulay weighted chordal graphs. In particular, it is shown that a weighted chordal graph is Cohen- Macaulay if and only if it is unmixed.

Abstract:Journal of Algebra and Its Applications, Ahead of Print. In this paper, we study almost Cohen–Macaulay bipartite graphs. In particular, we prove that if [math] is an almost Cohen–Macaulay bipartite graph with at least one vertex of positive degree, then there is a vertex of [math]. In particular, if [math] is an almost Cohen–Macaulay bipartite graph and [math] is a vertex of degree one of [math] and [math] its adjacent vertex, then [math] is almost Cohen–Macaulay. Also, we show that an unmixed Ferrers graph is almost Cohen–Macaulay if and only if it is connected in codimension two. Moreover, we give some examples.

Abstract:Herzog, Hibi, and Zheng classified the Cohen-Macaulay edge ideals of chordal graphs. In this paper, we classify Cohen-Macaulay edge ideals of (vertex) weighted oriented chordal and simplicial graphs, a more general class of monomial ideals. In particular, we show that the Cohen-Macaulay property of these ideals is equivalent to the unmixed one and hence, independent of the underlying field.

Abstract:We introduce a new class of symmetric algebras, which we call hybrid algebras. This class contains on one extreme Brauer graph algebras, and on the other extreme general weighted surface algebras. We show that hybrid algebras are precisely the blocks of idempotent algebras of weighted surface algebras, up to socle deformations. More generally, for tame symmetric algebras whose Gabriel quiver is 2-regular, we show that the tree class of an Auslander-Reiten component is Dynkin or Euclidean or one of the infinite tress $A_{\infty}$, $A_{\infty}^{\infty}$, or $D_{\infty}$.

Structural and Spectral Properties of Chordal Ring, Multi-ring and Mixed Graphs

Abstract:The chordal ring (CR) graphs are a well-known family of graphs used to model some interconnection networks for computer systems in which all nodes are in a cycle. Generalizing the CR graphs, in this paper, we introduce the families of chordal multi-ring (CMR), chordal ring mixed (CRM), and chordal multi-ring mixed (CMRM) graphs. In the case of mixed graphs, we can have edges (without direction) and arcs (with direction). The chordal ring and chordal ring mixed graphs are bipartite and 3-regular. They consist of a number $r$ (for $r\geq 1$) of (undirected or directed) cycles with some edges (the chords) joining them. In particular, for CMR, when $r=1$, that is, with only one undirected cycle, we obtain the known families of chordal ring graphs. Here, we use plane tessellations to represent our chordal multi-ring graphs. This allows us to obtain their maximum number of vertices for every given diameter. Besides, we computationally obtain their minimum diameter for any value of the number of vertices. Moreover, when seen as a lift graph (also called voltage graph) of a base graph on Abelian groups, we obtain closed formulas for the spectrum, that is, the eigenvalue multi-set of its adjacency matrix.

Abstract:In this article, we characterize Cohen-Macaulay permutation graphs. In particular, we show that a permutation graph is Cohen-Macaulay if and only if it is well-covered and there exists a unique way of partitioning its vertex set into $r$ disjoint maximal cliques, where $r$ is the cardinality of a maximal independent set of the graph. We also provide some sufficient conditions for a comparability graph to be a uniquely partially orderable (UPO) graph.

Abstract:We characterize Cohen-Macaulay posets of dimension two; they are precisely the shellable and strongly connected posets of dimension two. We also give a combinatorial description of these posets. Using the fact that co-comparability graph of a 2-dimensional poset is a permutation graph, we characterize Cohen-Macaulay permutation graphs.

Abstract:We give an example of two non isomorphic coordinate rings of a special kind of convex polyominoes whose Cohen-Macaulay types are generalized Fuss-Catalan numbers. We further provide a determinantal formula for these numbers.

Abstract:The main purpose of this note is to extend and establish a new approach to the concept of (relative) Cohen-Macaulayness, by investigating the cohomological dimension as well as the depth of a pair of modules over a commutative Noetherian ring. The notion also largely extends the cohomologically complete intersection property of Hellus and Schenzel. As crucial tools, we use Herzog's theory of generalized local cohomology along with spectral sequence techniques. We also provide byproducts concerning two classical problems in homological commutative algebra.

Cohen-Macaulayness of Total Simplicial Complexes

Abstract:We first construct the total simplicial complex (TSC) of a finite simple graph $G$ in order to generalize the total graph $T(G)$. We show that $\Delta_T(G)$ is not Cohen-Macaulay (CM) in general. For a connected graph $G$, we prove that the TSC is Buchsbaum. We demonstrate that the vanishing of first homology group of TSC associated to a connected graph $G$ is both a necessary and sufficient condition for it to be CM. We find the primary decomposition of the TSC associated to a family of friendship graphs $F_{5n+1}$ and prove it to be CM.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a hybrid graph-drawing algorithm (GDA) for layouting large, naturally-clustered, disconnected graphs. We called it a hybrid algorithm because it is an implementation of a series of already known graph-drawing and graph-theoretic procedures. We remedy in this hybrid the problematic nature of the current force-based GDA which has the inability to scale to large, naturally-clustered, and disconnected graphs. These kinds of graph usually model the complex inter-relationships among entities in social, biological, natural, and artificial networks. Obviously, the hybrid runs longer than the current GDAs. By using two extreme cases of graphs as inputs, we present in this paper the derivation of the time complexity of the hybrid which we found to be $O(|\V|^3)$.

Abstract:We construct a connected cubic nonnormal Cayley graph on A 2 m − 1 for each integer m ⩾ 4 and determine its full automorphism group. This is the first infinite family of connected cubic nonnormal Cayley graphs on nonabelian simple groups.

Abstract:Let $H$ be a simple undirected graph. The family of all matchings of $H$ forms a simplicial complex called the matching complex of $H$. Here , we give a classification of all graphs with a Gorenstein matching complex. Also we study when the matching complex of $H$ is Cohen-Macaulay and, in certain classes of graphs, we fully characterize those graphs which have a Cohen-Macaulay matching complex. In particular, we characterize when the matching complex of a graph with girth at least 5 or a complete graph is Cohen-Macaulay.

Abstract:Let $R=K[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ be the polynomial ring in $n$ variables over a field $K$. We show that if $G$ is a connected graph with a basic $5$-cycle $C$, then $G$ is a sequentially Cohen-Macaulay graph if and only if there exists a shedding vertex $x$ of $C$ such that $G\setminus x$ and $G\setminus N[x]$ are sequentially Cohen-Macaulay graphs. Furthermore, we study the sequentially Cohen-Macaulay and Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of square-free monomial ideals in some special cases.

Abstract:Chen et al. (1998) proved that every 18-tough chordal graph has a Hamilton cycle. Improving upon their bound, we show that every 10-tough chordal graph is Hamiltonian (in fact, Hamilton-connected). We use Aharoni and Haxell's hypergraph extension of Hall's Theorem as our main tool.

Abstract:We explain how Cohen--Macaulay classifying spaces are ubiquitous among discrete groups that satisfy Bieri--Eckmann duality, and compare Bieri--Eckmann duality to duality results for Cohen--Macaulay complexes. We use this comparison to give a description of the dualizing module of ${\rm{Out}}(F_N)$ in terms of the local cohomology cosheaf of the spine of Outer space.

Abstract:By Auslander's algebraic McKay correspondence, the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a simple singularity is equivalent to the $1$-cluster category of the path algebra of a Dynkin quiver (i.e. the orbit category of the derived category by the action of the Auslander-Reiten translation). In this paper we give a systematic method to construct a similar type of triangle equivalence between the stable category of Cohen-Macaulay modules over a Gorenstein isolated singularity $R$ and the generalized (higher) cluster category of a finite dimensional algebra $\Lambda$. The key role is played by a bimodule Calabi-Yau algebra, which is the higher Auslander algebra of $R$ as well as the higher preprojective algebra of an extension of $\Lambda$. As a byproduct, we give a triangle equivalence between the stable category of graded Cohen-Macaulay $R$-modules and the derived category of $\Lambda$. Our main results apply in particular to a class of cyclic quotient singularities and to certain toric affine threefolds associated with dimer models.

Abstract:Chordal graphs are important in structural graph theory. Chordal digraphs are a digraph analogue of chordal graphs and have been a subject of active studies recently. Unlike chordal graphs, chordal digraphs lack many structural properties such as forbidden subdigraph or representation characterizations. In this paper we introduce the notion of semi-strict chordal digraphs which form a class strictly between chordal digraphs and chordal graphs. Semi-strict chordal digraphs have rich structural properties. We characterize semi-strict chordal digraphs in terms of knotting graphs, a notion analogous to the one introduced by Gallai for the study of comparability graphs. We also give forbidden subdigraph characterizations of semi-strict chordal digraphs within the classes of locally semicomplete digraphs and weakly quasi-transitive digraphs.

Abstract:We introduce new homological dimensions, namely the Cohen-Macaulay projective, injective and flat dimensions for homologically bounded complexes. Among other things we show that (a) these invariants characterize the Cohen-Macaulay property for local rings, (b) Cohen-Macaulay flat dimension fits between the Gorenstein flat dimension and the large restricted flat dimension, and (c) Cohen-Macaulay injective dimension fits between the Gorenstein injective dimension and the Chouinard invariant.
