Abstract:Abstract A microbar air conditioning duct was taken as the research object, and the flow field characteristics of air conditioning duct were numerically simulated based on CATIA and ANASYS software. According to the numerical simulation results, the pressure field and velocity distribution of the air duct were analysed in detail. The analysis results show that the increase of the inlet velocity of the left air duct is conducive to the increase of the velocity of the air outlet, but the flow resistance is increased. By changing the inner wall structure and inlet area of the air duct on the right side, the wind speed of the rear air outlet can be improved effectively.

Abstract:To enhance the exhaust efficiency during ventilation, three types of air duct outlets were imported. According to the characteristics of velocity distribution simulated by numerical method, the flow field is divided into the mixing zone and the exhaust zone. The gradual contracted air duct outlet can enhance the mixing effect between fresh air and smoke. In the exhaust zone, however, the flow velocity on the upper section of the tunnel is weakened, which is unfavorable for smoke exhaust. Gradual expanded air duct outlet, on the contrary, may weaken the concentration effect of the airflow. The flow velocity on the upper section of the tunnel is increased in the exhaust zone, thus the flow field is more homogenized, which is in favor of smoke exhaust.

Abstract:Abstract Nowadays, the air conditioner (AC), as an important guarantee for driving comfort and endurance, has attracted more and more attention. The pipe connecting the air conditioner refrigerator and the air outlet of the cockpit instrument panel is known as the air duct. Its structural characteristics and fluid flow characteristics are related to the refrigeration efficiency of the whole air conditioning system. The air supply performance of the air duct directly affects the uniformity of the temperature field and speed field in the car, thus affecting the comfort performance of the car [2]. Limited by the layout space, the design of air conditioning duct is the most difficult part of the design of automobile air conditioning system [1]. Therefore, how to optimize the air duct of automotive air-conditioning to meet the size design of the car while being more energy-efficient is an important research direction. This paper focuses on the simulation design and further optimization of the model of the air duct of automotive air conditioning through CFD algorithm. The author uses the Soildworks software for preliminary modeling, meshes the established model with Meshing, and applies the Fluent software to simulate the fluid flow characteristics in the pipe. By inputting a given flow to the inlets, the air volume of each outlet can be simulated. Based on the initial air-conditioning duct model of a vehicle model, the pipe turbulence problem and the uneven distribution of air volume at each outlet in the simulation process are improved under the condition of ensuring the existing size, and finally the rationality of the improvement is verified.

Abstract:In this work complete methodology for calculation and analysis of fluid flow in air ducts is presented. In order to minimize outlet pressure drop and to reduce the duct vibrations the plates with airfoil cross sections are added to duct critical zones. It was observed that airfoil stream plates efficiently contribute to outlet pressure drop, duct vibration and noise reduction. Modern methods such as CFD and FEA can be efficiently deployed in numerical treatise of flow and vibration analysis in air ducts.

Abstract:Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part D: Journal of Automobile Engineering, Ahead of Print. This study is about the fog on the windshields of passenger buses because it makes it hard for drivers to see, which is dangerous. The goal of the research is to come up with an effective way to spread the produced mist. According to the study, the air duct design, which is connected to the car's defroster and defrosting system by Kraft hoses, has to be upgraded. The analysis identifies areas in which the current air duct design might be enhanced and then makes design modifications to create a superior design. By conducting climatic chamber experiments on a vehicle equipped with the first air duct design and tracking the actual air velocity values at the nozzle tips, the success of the new technique is assessed. The boundary conditions for the analysis are the observed values. The study involves the utilization of a commercially available software package to conduct investigations on both the original and modified air duct designs. The software package employs a k-ε turbulence model that is known to produce reliable results. The data demonstrate that the adjustments made in light of the comparison produced beneficial effects. The maximum air velocities were increased by 23%, while the pressure loss values of the left and right fans were reduced by 2.5% and 2.9%, respectively, due to the modification of the air duct. Significant energy was saved because of the decrease in fan pressure loss, which led to decreases in the power consumption of the left and right fans of 4.2% and 4.7%, respectively. This comparison shows that the newly built air ducts actually increased the flow rate at the system's fan outlets by 40%.

Abstract:The flow field in the original duct was simulated using Reynolds-average Navier–Stokes methods. Grid independence test was carried out and the air velocity at four outlets was consistent with experimental data, so the accuracy of the numerical model can be guaranteed. Vortex at the inner wall of the curved duct was identified from the simulation result, and two 75° guide plates with the thickness of 1 mm were used to reduce it. The vortex was well improved and the flow path of air became more regular than the original scheme. Guide plates with gradual increasing height along the airflow direction at the straight duct were proposed to improve the uniformity. The height of the last guide plate was set to 50 mm, the same as original scheme; then, the smallest standard deviation of velocity at four outlets is achieved with the increasing ratio of 1.4.

Abstract:Airflow patterns are essential for heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Traditional HVAC systems are predesigned and operated using a fixed airflow pattern. However, the indoor occupancy and heat source always vary and therefore, the fixed flow pattern cannot efficiently maintain the required indoor environment conditions. In this study, a novel Adjustable Fan Network (AFN) for improving airflow pattern manoeuvrability is proposed. It integrates multiple small and adjustable axial fans into an AFN, enabling it to change the airflow pattern based on the actual demand with only one set of equipment. Further, the outflow characteristics of two types of axial fans were measured using a quad-view colour sequence particle streak velocimetry (CSPSV) in a test chamber. The ventilation system was then designed based on typical scenarios. Finally, the performance of the AFN was evaluated under different scenarios using a quad-view CSPSV. Based on the results, it was evident that the AFN can provide a better direct supply of air to the occupied zone under different scenarios. With the growing demand for personal thermal comfort and energy-saving in HVAC systems, the novel AFN system has a great potential to be a highly controllable terminal for demand-oriented ventilation.

Abstract:The performance of air duct will directly influence on ride comfort, in order to improve air supply performance, the specific requirements and methods of air-conditioning duct design are discussed in terms of design factors affected duct system and duct pressure loss in this paper. And simulation analysis and comparison are performed on the basis of flow field features before and after structure optimization of vent duct on certain air-conditioning. The results showed that reduce pressure loss of air duct and duct turn as much as possible, decrease air-conditioning duct resistance and improve air duct supply performance. This method has reference value for automotive air-conditioning duct design.
Fast Multi-Objective Optimization Design of Gas Turbine L-inlet Duct

Abstract:With ever-increasing demand for high efficiency and high stability gas turbine under the goal of carbon neutrality, the design of L-inlet duct has set stricter demands for low pressure loss and low flow distortion. No general optimization guidelines on both pressure loss and distortion for L-inlet duct were found in open literature. Four geometry parameters including inlet width, inlet length, contraction geometry angle and truncated cone geometry angle are explored for their effects on the trends of pressure loss and flow distortion. Optimization geometry parameters of the L-inlet duct are analysed, and the flow characteristics are thoroughly examined. The flow field characteristic of ΔP t , DC60, SC60 from surrogate model are validated by CFD, the relative errors are 0.37%, −3.92% and 1.75%, respectively. At the design point EF = 35 comparing with original scheme of the L-inlet duct, ΔP t decreases 21.14%, DC60 decreases 45.37%, and SC60 decreases 38.7%. For all off design conditions, the optimization results are better than original scheme. It is estimated that gas turbines can achieve a 0.144% reduction in power loss and a 0.333% improvement in surge margin.

The outside environment also affects the inside of the car, and this paper experiments to obtain outlet environment data and set it as the boundary conditions. The thermal comfort index in this paper will use experimental parameters to compute the results and analyze the results of the data to address people's requirements for the quality of the driving environment and provide a better driving environment.

Abstract:The importance of maintaining performance of a hospital operating theater is to establish an adequate circulation of clean air within the room. The parameter of air distribution in a space should be based on Air Changes per Hour (ACH) to maintain a positive room pressure. The dispersion of airborne particles in the operating theater was governed by regulating the air distribution so that the operating theater meets clean room standards ie ISO 14664 and ASHRAE 170. Here, we introduced several input parameters in a simulation environment to observe the pressure distribution in the room. Input parameters were air temperature, air velocity and volumetric flow rate entering and leaving room for existing and designed condition. In the existing operating theatre, several observations were found. It was found that the outlet air velocity at the HEPA filter above the operating table was too high thus causing a turbulent airflow pattern. Moreover, the setting temperature at 19°C was found to be too low. The supply of air into the room was observed at lower than 20 ACH which is under the standard requirement. Our simulation using FloVent 8.2™ program showed that not only airflow turbulence could be reduced but also the amount of particle contamination could also be minimized.

Abstract:A fabric air dispersion system (FADS) is a type of flexible air supply system that integrates air transmission and distribution. This innovative system has the potential to address common issues such as uneven air supply and surface condensation, which are often associated with traditional ventilation systems. Existing numerical simulation studies on fiber ducts have encountered problems with mesh generation and simulation accuracy. This work develops a simulation method based on the equivalent discounting method to overcome these challenges. The proposed method is utilized to investigate the flow and heat transfer characteristics inside fiber ducts while also examining the effects of various shapes and opening configurations. The findings indicate that the temperature rise inside the duct is positively correlated with flow rate, with higher temperatures resulting from faster flow speeds. The temperature rise of FADS with four rows of openings increased by 0.4 k compared to other opening methods. Additionally, the study shows that increasing the number of rows of openings in the fiber duct leads to a faster decay of flow velocity and a higher temperature rise. At the same time, increasing the number of openings in the duct slightly reduces flow velocity while slightly increasing the temperature rise. The presence of more fiber duct elbows leads to greater local resistance, which accelerates the decay of the flow velocity and increases the temperature rise. Compared to the "1"-shaped FADS, the temperature rises of the "L"-shaped and "U"-shaped systems have increased by 0.9 k and 2.9 k, respectively.

Abstract:This work aims to give new results about the effect of the outlet opening of heat exchanger on its cooling quality. Three outlet opining locations have been studied in order to determine the best location that maximizes the efficiency of the heat transfer. The flow velocity at the inlet of the heat exchanger was also studied. It is worth noting that the research was carried out in a numerical way using ANSYS-CFX simulator.The latter solves both of energy and momentum equations using finite-volume method. Three pertinent parameters are considered here: the velocity of the flow at the inlet port of heat exchangers was controlled in terms of Reynolds number in the range 5 to 40. The pattern and the intensity of thermal transfer, the latter being controlled by the Richardson number selected between the values 0 and 1. The simulation was done for a simple and incompressible fluid. The results of this research showed that there is a possibility to raise the efficiency the heat exchanger if the outlet hole is placed at the bottom of the right side.
Experimental Investigation of the Ventilation Performance of Different Air Distribution Systems in an Office Environment—Cooling Mode

Abstract:The performance of a newly designed corner impinging jet air distribution method with an equilateral triangle cross section was evaluated experimentally and compared to that of two more traditional methods (mixing and displacement ventilation). At nine evenly chosen positions with four standard vertical points, air velocity, turbulence intensity, temperature, and tracer gas decay measurements were conducted for all systems. The results show that the new method behaves as a displacement ventilation system, with high air change effectiveness and stratified flow pattern and temperature field. Both local air change effectiveness and air exchange effectiveness of the corner impinging jet showed high quality and promising results, which is a good indicator of ventilation effectiveness. The results also indicate that there is a possibility to slightly lower the airflow rates for the new air distribution system, while still meeting the requirements for thermal comfort and indoor air quality, thereby reducing fan energy usage. The draught rate was also lower for corner impinging jet compared to the other tested air distribution methods. The findings of this research show that the corner impinging jet method can be used for office ventilation.

Abstract:Abstract According to the structure of the air channel in the drying chamber of an automobile factory, a model of the original structure of the drying chamber was established. The air flow of this structure is analyzed based on the CFD simulation, and the velocity at specific points of the car shell being dried is also analyzed. The results show that the original drying chamber structure is optimized, the air flow is uniform in the drying air chamber and short circuit of air between inlet and outlet in the drying chamber is decreased.

Abstract:In generation, Most of the thermal power plant is installed ESP with Bag-house FF Filteration system. Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) are well accepted and widely used for air pollution control due to reasonable collections efficiency, low pressure-drop, and low capital and operating costs. The performance of modern ESP’s would be expected to be better than 99.9% particulate removal efficiency while incurring less than 100 Pa pressure drop. The geometry of inlet duct has refined with guide vanes placed at several locations. An improvement of flow distribution in the duct through optimization can be achieved by modification of inlet duct. In this present work, CFD analysis of flow through the APH outlet to ESP inlet duct and ESP Outlet duct is performed by modification of duct , in order to reduce the pressure drop, reduce turbulence as well as achieve uniform distributions among the all streams and minimize erosion of duct walls caused due to high velocity. Reducing erosion of the duct walls results in the reduction of leakages in the ducts. Reduction of pressure drop across the duct saves the power consumption. The ESP inlet and ESP Outlet duct consists of two inlet and two outlets. The simulation studies involving the flow through the ESP inlet and outlet duct are performed using3-D Model development using Solid Works, ANSYS Design Modeler, Grid generation using ICEM CFD (HEXA) and Performing the simulation using ANSYS CFX using structured hexahedral mesh. The pathlines, velocity contours, pressure distributions for various cases involving without modification of duct. The ESP inlet duct and outlet duct modification shows lesser pressure drop with uniform distributions across the duct.

Abstract:The interaction between water motion efficiency, outlet control mechanisms, and energy dynamics management hinges significantly on turbulence characteristics. However, understanding the influence of input velocities and duct features on outlets remains elusive. This study employs the realizable k − ɛ viscous model and Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations (RANS equations) to explore transient water dynamics encountering a cold front through ducts leading to convergence or divergence. Using Ansys Fluent 2023R2 and the waterlight workflow, meticulous meshing of the ducts is executed to capture flow intricacies accurately. Grid independence, suitable boundary conditions, and solver settings are carefully considered to ensure reliable results for investigating four key research questions. Duct bending introduces non-uniformities in velocity distribution, impacting exit velocity and altering flow characteristics and turbulence. In Case III, centrifugal forces from a 90° bend result in higher outlet velocities at the convergent exit and secondary flow patterns like swirls and vortexes. Additionally, entrance velocities influence Reynolds numbers, affecting mixing, heat transfer coefficients, and flow regimes, thereby optimizing thermal conductivity. This comprehensive investigation sheds light on optimizing water dynamics and energy management across various duct configurations, offering valuable insights into efficient flow control and thermal performance enhancement.

Abstract:Brazed aluminum flat tube and louver fin heat exchanger is widely used as the heater core in automotive heat, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) module. It was found that the temperature distribution in heater core surface is not equivalent, and it was considered that the flow maldistribution in the tubes responses for this phenomenon. The purpose of this work was to enhance the performance of the heater through optimizing the inlet manifold structure. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was adopting for investigating this phenomenon and finding some optimization schemes. In addition, the experiments were carried out for this optimization. In these experiments, two samples of heater core, before and after optimizing, were tested in an experimental facility, and the experimental results showed that the performance had improved by 1.03–3.98% through adding a deflector in the inlet manifold. The IR pictures also showed that the temperature distribution on the heater core surface was more homogeneous.

Abstract:This research investigates into the critical intersection of fluid dynamics and noise generation within industrial air purifier ducts. As industrialization escalates, so does the concern for environmental challenges and air pollution. Industrial air purifiers, designed to combat airborne contaminants, play a pivotal role in fostering cleaner and healthier industrial environments. However, the accompanying noise from essential components poses challenges for worker well-being and operational efficiency. Utilizing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations, our investigation systematically explores the impact of duct geometry on fluid dynamics, turbulence, and noise generation. Validation against experimental data ensures the accuracy of our numerical model. The deliberate variations in duct design across five models, coupled with subsequent simulations for four additional designs, reveal Design 5 as a successful contender in achieving noise reduction objectives. Comparative analyses of outlet velocities, inlet pressures, and sound levels provide actionable insights for engineers and manufacturers. This research not only advances our understanding of duct geometry's role in noise generation but also paves the way for quieter and more efficient industrial air purifiers. The optimized designs contribute to creating industrial environments that prioritize both workplace well-being and environmental sustainability.
