Abstract:Dear colleagues and friends of the Latin American Foot and Ankle world, it is for me an honor and at the same time a great sadness to pass along the sad news that January brought to all of us. Ramón Viladot-Pericé, world reference in Foot and Ankle and professor of generations of specialists in Spain and Latin America, passed away in Barcelona. Providence wanted that, in the last months and even years, we had been united by an intense research activity, and I have the honor of having published with him his last scientific article, published last year in this scientific journal.What can we say... we have plenty of reasons to highlight his impressive scientific legacy and even more reasons to stress his unmeasurable human qualities. His absence leaves an enormous void impossible to fill. From the scientific point of view, his last moments were filled with an unprecedented resurgence of science in all senses: it was not time to end a project to start another, and the hours and days were not enough to meet his goals. Perhaps he never thought of such a hastyend, but even so, destiny prepared him to say goodbye in the best way: communicating how much he knew about Foot and Ankle. Among many other things, I am left with the calls of the last months, full of affection and cognizance of the perfection of his work, but also with his inexhaustible eagerness for rigorous scientific production. With Ramón Viladot part of the History of Foot and Ankle is gone. Probably nothing will be the same from now on, but we are left withhis unequaled personal and scientific legacy, his disposition, his human qualities. Surely many of the readers of this Editorial can identify with these words, as there are many of us who have shared operations and consultations with him both at the Hospital San Rafael and at the Clínica Tres Torres in Barcelona.The person died, but the memory lives on. He was a strong man in his faith and convictions, a kind and helpful friend, attentive and open-minded in discussions, creative, profound and sophisticated in understanding the flow of life and science. He left an unforgettable mark on our hearts and personal memories. His way of thinking left an imprint on students, young scientists and co-workers. We accompany all that with warm farewell applause as an appreciation of Stefan’s way and effects throughout his life.

Abstract:It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death on February 13, 2014 of Professor Toshisuke Hirano, who was a “father of AOAFST”. At the occasion of the 10th Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology (10th AOSFST), we share the memories of Prof. Hirano and renew his will on the progress of fire science. In this article, his achievements are summarized, such as the activities in academic societies, achievements on scientific researches, major awards received, and so on. The eulogies given by Prof. Wan-Ki Chow (Hong Kong), Prof. Bogdan Dlugogorski (Australia) and Prof. Patrick van Hees (Sweden), and Prof. Jinhua Sun (China) are included in this article.

Abstract:Memorializes Fernando González Rey (1949-2019). González Rey was a Cuban psychologist, scholar, and educator whose intellectual legacy offers a new, complex, and influential understanding of subjectivity from a cultural-historical standpoint. He published 38 books, more than 80 book chapters, and 135 scientific articles published in five languages (Spanish, Portuguese, English, Russian, and French). His work is characterized by its breadth, depth, and creativity and contributes mainly to the fields of cultural-historical psychology, qualitative research, education, psychotherapy, and human health. In 2000, after spending 4 years as a visiting professor at the University of Brasilia, for political reasons he was prevented from returning to Cuba, as he wished. He was also removed from the Cuban Communist Party. In this process, he was forced to settle in Brazil. Along with his academic partner and wife, Albertina Mitjáns Martínez, he then worked in various Brazilian universities, having the University Center of Brasilia as his main workplace. Abstract:Sergio Adamo prematurely left us on January 7th 2022, just one year after his retirement, leaving his family, friends and colleagues deeply sad and grieving. Sergio was a full Professor of Histology and Embryology at the Sapienza University of Rome. Since the foundation of the Institute of Histology and Embryology more than 50 years ago, he dedicated himself to the institution, research, and teaching with integrity, generosity, and a great sense of teamwork. Sergio's main research interests have been the mechanisms of myogenesis, muscle homeostasis and regeneration under normal and pathological conditions. Most relevant results obtained by Sergio and his collaborators indicate novel functions for the neurohypophyseal hormones, vasopressin and oxytocin, upon striated muscle differentiation, trophism, and homeostasis. Here we like to give the proper tribute to a mentor, a colleague and a sincere friend. He left an indelible mark on the professional and personal lives of all of us and his absence provokes a profound sense of emptiness.
