Abstract:Part I: The error of eq. (15b) in my article [Z.D. Zhang, Phil. Mag. 87, 5309 (2007), <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0705.1045" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0705.1045">arXiv:0705.1045</a>] in the application of the Jordan-Wigner transformation does not affect the validity of the putative exact solution, since the solution is not derived directly from it. Other objections of Perk's Comment <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0811.1802v2" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0811.1802v2">arXiv:0811.1802v2</a> are the same as those in Wu et al's Comments <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0811.3876" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0811.3876">arXiv:0811.3876</a> and <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0812.2837" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0812.2837">arXiv:0812.2837</a>, which do not stand on solid ground and have been rejected in the previous Response <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0812.2330" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0812.2330">arXiv:0812.2330</a>. The conjectured solution can be utilized to understand critical phenomena in various systems, while the conjectures are open to prove rigorously. Part II: This is a Reply to Perk's Rejoinder <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="0901.2935" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/0901.2935">arXiv:0901.2935</a>. It is shown that the basis of the objections in Perk's Rejoinder, with respect to singularities at/near infinite temperature, is based on an error that mixes the concepts of T approaching infinite and T = infinite. It is shown that the reduced free energy per site f can be used only for finite temperatures (beta > 0), not for 'exactly' infinite temperature (beta = 0). At the thermodynamic limit N approaches infinite, besides infinite-temperature zeros of Z at z = -1 for H = +/- i infinite in the limit of beta approaching zero, there exists another singularity at z = 1 for the partition function, which is usually concealed in literature by setting Z to the power of 1/N and dividing the total free energy F by N (equally, disregarding the singularity of zeros of 1/Z. The objections in Perk's Rejoinder are thoroughly disproved.

Comment on "Extending the Laws of Thermodynamics for Arbitrary Autonomous Quantum Systems"

Abstract:Recently, Elouard and Lombard Latune [PRX Quantum 4, 020309 (2023)] claimed to extend the laws of thermodynamics to "arbitrary quantum systems" valid "at any scale" using "consistent" definitions allowing them to "recover known results" from the literature. I show that their definitions are in conflict with textbook thermodynamics and over- or underestimate the real entropy production by orders of magnitude. The cause of this problem is traced back to problematic definitions of entropy and temperature, the latter, for instance, violates the zeroth law. It is pointed out that another framework presented in PRX Quantum 2, 030202 (2021) does not suffer from these problems, while Elouard and Lombard Latune falsely claim that it only provides a positive entropy production for a smaller class of initial states. A simple way to unify both approaches is also presented.

Abstract:In this note, we reply to the comment made by <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://E.I.Kats" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://V.V.Lebedev" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1407.4298" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1407.4298">arXiv:1407.4298</a>] on our recent work "Thermodynamics of quantum crystalline membranes" [Phys. Rev. B 89, 224307 (2014)]. Kats and Lebedev question the validity of the calculation presented in our work, in particular on the use of a Debye momentum as a ultra-violet regulator for the theory. We address and counter argue the criticisms made by Kats and Lebedev to our work.

Abstract:In his Comment [1], Philip Strasberg (PS) argues from the analysis of different examples that the framework we have presented in [2] does not recover known results of macroscopic textbook thermodynamics. Here, we show that such apparent contradictions disappear when the necessary assumptions the aforementioned known results pre-suppose are applied. Those assumptions concern the control ability of the observer, the nature of the described degree of freedom, or the scale of the systems. The ability to relax those assumptions is precisely a motivation of our framework, which can explore the capacity of quantum systems to exchange work and heat even at scales not captured by textbook thermodynamics. We take the opportunity of this reply to further expand on the use of our framework and its connections with traditional thermodynamics.

Abstract:We apply fluctuating hydrodynamics to strong electrolyte mixtures to compute the concentration corrections for chemical potential, diffusivity, and conductivity. We show these corrections to be in agreement with the limiting laws of Debye, Hückel, and Onsager. We compute explicit corrections for a symmetric ternary mixture and find that the co-ion Maxwell-Stefan diffusion coefficients can be negative, in agreement with experimental findings.

Abstract:In a series of publications, Kocherginsky and Gruebele presented a systematic framework for chemical transport and thermodiffusion to predict the Soret coefficients from thermodynamics. A macroscopic derivation of the Onsager reciprocal relations without recourse to microscopic fluctuations or equations of motion was also discussed. Their important contributions and some confusions are discussed.

Abstract:We reply to the Comment by Schirmacher et al. [Phys. Rev. E, 106, 066101 (2022)PREHBM2470-004510.1103/PhysRevE.106.066101]. We disagree that the heat capacity of liquids is not a mystery since a widely accepted theoretical derivation based on simple physical assumptions is still missing. We also disagree about the lack of evidence for a linear in frequency scaling of the liquid density of states, which is indeed reported in uncountable simulations and recently also in experiments. We emphasize that our theoretical derivation does not assume any Debye density of states. We agree that such an assumption would be incorrect. Finally, we remark that the Bose-Einstein distribution naturally tends to the Boltzmann distribution in the classical limit, which makes our results valid also for classical liquids. We hope that this scientific exchange will bring more attention to the description of the vibrational density of states and thermodynamics of liquids, which still present many open puzzles.

Abstract:In a recent paper, Phys. Rev. E 67, 012201 (2003)] proposed a new interpretation of the collective dynamics in liquid metals and, in particular, of the relaxation mechanisms ruling density fluctuations propagation. At variance with both the predictions of the current literature and the results of recent inelastic x-ray scattering experiments, ST associate the quasielastic component of the S (Q,omega ) to the thermal relaxation, as it holds in ordinary adiabatic hydrodynamics valid for nonconductive liquids and in the Q-->0 limit. We show here that this interpretation leads to a nonphysical behavior of different thermodynamic and transport parameters.

Abstract:It is argued that the Binding Debye–Hückel (BiDH) model proposed by Naseri Boroujeni et al. [J. Chem. Phys. 159, 154503 (2023)] might not be appropriate for the description of Monte Carlo simulation data obtained for primitive model electrolytes. The first reason is that the original Debye–Hückel (DH) theory is of low accuracy for describing deviations from ideality in concentrated solutions of strong salts. The DH framework is thus a poor basis for building a model including association. The second reason is that the mean-spherical approximation, without assumption of association, apparently predicts Monte Carlo (MC) data for primitive electrolytes better than BiDH. Thus, the BiDH model seems to be simply a way of compensating for the deficiencies of DH theory by assuming association.

Abstract:The comments regarding “Solid-liquid equilibrium solubility, thermodynamic properties and solvent effect of 3,4-dinitro-1H-pyrazole in different pure solvents” helps to improve the quality of the article published by the authors recently. According to the comments, the article of the authors was checked in depth again. Such discrepancy was because the thermodynamic mixing properties in the our original work of the authors were calculated incorrectly, and did not comply with the standard thermodynamic relationship, i.e., ∆mix G = ∆mix H - T∆mix S. The errors should be corrected and in this reply the values of the ∆mix G, ∆mix H and ∆mix S were recalculated.
