Abstract:Acidity plays a vital role in methane conversion by co-feeding method, which is one of the best strategies to improve the utilization and gentle the reaction conditions of methane. In this work, Zn, Ni, Mo, La, Ga, Fe and Co-impregnated ZSM-5 zeolites have been prepared with the same substitutions to variate the acidities and tested in co-aromatization of methanol with methane. It is demonstrated that the new medium-strong acid sites formed by metal and strong acid sites are the key role to activate methane in co-reaction. Zn-modified ZSM-5 catalyst is preferred to exhibit the best methane conversion of 12%, whose aromatic selectivity increases from 27.2% to 52.2% compared with that of HZSM-5. Besides, the addition of methane further improves the production of high-valued aromatics compared with methanol to aromatics (MTA) reaction.

Abstract:A novel core-shell structured catalyst (Zn/MZSM-5@S-1) with the microporous silicalite-1 shell and the mesoporous ZSM-5 core (Zn/MZSM-5) was prepared by the epitaxial recrystallization method using tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) as template. Multitechniques including XRD, TEM, N2 adsorption-desorption, XPS, 27Al NMR, IR, NH3-TPD, IG and ICP were employed to investigate the physicochemical properties of the core-shell Zn-MZSM-5@S-1 and the deactivation of carbon deposits. Results revealed that the diffusion capacities of Zn-MZSM-5@S-1 have been dramatically improved after the epitaxial growth of the silicalite-1 shell. In addition, the non-acidic silicalite-1 shell covering on Zn/MZSM-5 core could decrease the external Brønsted acid sites, and thus inhibit the formation of carbon deposits. Applying the protective shell increased the stability of the core-shell catalyst in comparison to Zn/MZSM-5 catalyst without the silicalite-1 shell. However, the overgrowth of the silicalite-1 shell extended the diffusion path of reactants and products, reducing the catalytic properties in methane co-aromatization with propane. In this sense, the controlled formation of desired thickness of the silicalite-1 shell around Zn/MZSM-5 core accounted for the enhanced catalytic properties.

Abstract:The activities of the cobalt and zinc-impregnated HZSM-5 catalysts to the non-oxidative conversion of propane (C3) and methane (C1) into aromatic hydrocarbons were evaluated using a fixed-bed microreactor. C1 conversion reached 36.7% and the selectivity of aromatic products reached above 88.7% at atmospheric pressure, weight (hourly) space velocity (WHSV) 1.6 g h−1/(g cat)−1 and 873 K. The influence of the acidity and the ratio of cobalt in the catalyst on the conversion of methane and propane was evaluated. C1 incorporation was conclusively confirmed by the mass spectral analyses of aromatic products produced in a run with 13CH4 which shows a significant 13C enrichment in the C6H6+, C7H8+ and C8H10+ fragments. The methane activation could result from its hydrogen-transfer reaction with alkenes. These catalysts were thoroughly characterized using XRD, N2 adsorption measurements, TPD of NH3, and FT-IR. The results showed that the activation of methane in low temperature was due to existence of propane. The acidic changes and micropore area of the catalyst severely affected aromatization, and resulted in drastic modifications in product distribution. From this work, we found that only a small fraction of tetrahedral framework aluminum, which corresponds to the Bronsted acid sites, is sufficient to accomplish the aromatization of the intermediates in methane and propane aromatic reaction, while the superfluous strong Bronsted acid sites, which can be decreased by adding Co and Zn, are showed to be related with the aromatic carbonaceous deposits on the catalysts. The density of acidic site and the strength of strong acid decreased when the concentration of Co and Zn in the catalyst increased. Therefore, a much higher benzene yield and a longer durability of the catalysts are obtained when compared with the conventional HZSM-5 catalysts.

Abstract:Core–shell composite ZSM-5@MCM-41 was synthesized by a two-step process, in which both self-assembly crystallization and Stöber method were applied. The tunable mesoporous shells with thickness of 25 to 145 nm were obtained by adjusting the mass ratio of TEOS/ZSM-5 from 1.0 to 2.0. Higher mesopore volume was observed with thicker shells, in which microporous structures were well-maintained. To explore the effect of shell thickness on the reaction, the n -heptane catalytic cracking was chosen as the model reaction. The catalytic performance of ZSM-5@MCM-41 was obviously enhanced by introducing MCM-41 shell, comparing with ZSM-5 zeolite alone. The passivation of external surface acid sites of core ZSM-5 largely inhibited the undesirable bimolecular reaction of light olefins. Meanwhile the increased MCM-41 shell thickness provided much less diffusion resistance. The above effects jointly improved n -heptane conversion and light olefin selectivity. It is confirmed in this work that suitable acid sites distribution and enhanced diffusion by applying hierarchical structure is an effective strategy to improve the catalytic activity of ZSM-5 in n -heptane cracking.

Abstract:Although the preparation of ZSM-5@silicalite-1 (ZS) core-shell catalysts has been reported in the literature, their selectivity to pars-xylene (PX) in the toluene alkylation with methanol is difficult to control. Here we present the effects of water and ZSM-5 adding amounts in the synthesis solution, the hydrothermal synthesis time, and the Si/Al ratio of core ZSM-5 on the catalytic performance of ZS core-shell catalysts. The ZS core-shell catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N-2 adsorption, and NH3 temperature-programmed desorption (NH3-TPD) techniques. The highest PX selectivity of 95.5% was obtained for the ZS (Si/Al = 140) catalyst prepared in the synthesis solution with a molar ratio of 0.2TPAOH:1TEOS:250H(2)O at 175 degrees C and 10 r.min(-1) for only 2 h and the corresponding toluene conversion is as high as 22.8% for the alkylation of toluene with methanol. Abstract:A series of ZSM-5 zeolites with tunable mesoporosity were synthesized by a facile ultrasound-assisted method. XRD, FT-IR and NH3-TPD results exhibited that as-synthesized ZSM-5 kept the MFI structure as well as the original acidity. Traced by TEM techniques, the crystallization process, especially the state of initial amorphous gel, was found notably affected by the ultrasound treatment by breaking the weak bonds, which led to formation of mesopores in crystals. The ZSM-5 catalysts with abundant mesoprores inhibited coking significantly and showed high catalytic stability for methanol to propylene reaction. The Z5-us-60 catalyst exhibited the highest catalytic stability for > 600 h at a high WHSV of 4.0 h(-1).

Abstract:Core-shell structured () zeolite composites were successfully synthesized via adding SSZ-13 modified with a surfactant into ZSM-5 synthetic gel under hydrothermal conditions. The presence of surfactant improved the problems of chemical compatibility and charge matching between zeolites with different topological structures. The factors that controlled the formation of had been studied in detail. The crystalline phase, morphology, aperture properties and acidity of the samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, N 2 adsorption-desorption and NH 3 -TPD, respectively. The catalyst exhibits good catalytic performance in the methanol-to-olefins (MTO) reaction compared to SSZ-13 and ZSM-5, owing to its hierarchical structure, suitable acidity, as well as the synergistic catalytic effect with ZSM-5 and SSZ-13. In this work, a simple and facile approach was proposed to synthesized core-shell zeolite composite, which had better to improve chemical compatibility issues derived from different topologies.

Abstract:Development of highly effective catalysts for one-stage conversion of methane with high selectivity to valuable products and energy efficiency will provide an efficient way to utilize natural gas and oil-associated gases and to protect environment. In recent years, there have been many efforts on direct catalytic transformations of methane into higher hydrocarbons by feeding additives together with methane under non-oxidative conditions. This paper reviewed the advances in recent research on non-oxidative aromatization of methane in the presence of propane over different modified HZSM-5 catalysts. The thermodynamic consideration, the isotope verification and the mechanism of the activation of methane in the presence of propane are discussed in the paper in detail.

Abstract:Core-shell structured Co3O4@ZSM-5 catalysts were successfully synthesized by a simple two-step microwave hydrothermal method and used for the catalytic oxidation of dichloromethane (DCM). Co3O4@ZSM-5 catalysts exhibited better CO2 yield and lower byproduct yield than pristine Co3O4 and ZSM-5. For pure ZSM-5 and Co3O4, dechlorinated byproducts CH3Cl formed more readily over ZSM-5 due to its higher acidity and lower redox property, while polychlorinated byproducts (CHCl3 and CCl4) formed more readily over Co3O4 due to its lower acidity and higher redox property. Thanks to its core-shell structure, Co3O4@ZSM-5 exhibited appropriate redox ability and a suitable distribution of acid sites, possibly explaining its lower byproduct yields and more efficient formation and desorption of HCl and Cl2. In situ Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra analysis indicated that formaldehyde, formate and methoxy species were the main intermediates of the catalytic oxidation reaction. A pathway for the catalytic oxidation of DCM on 1.5-Co3O4@ZSM-5 was proposed based on the DCM degradation performance and physicochemical property analysis. The addition of water vapor to the DCM degradation process on core-shell structure Co3O4@ZSM-5 was shown to promote DCM conversion and CO2 yield. In addition, we concluded that core-shell catalysts exhibited good thermal stability and durability for DCM oxidation.

Abstract:C ore-shell structured ZSM-5@Silicalite-1 zeolite could effectively hinder the deactivation of catalyst surface. Currently, organic structure directing agents(OSDAs) are necessary in the conventional route for the synthesis of this core-shell zeolite under hydrothermal conditions, which is costly and environmental-unfriendly. In this research, a synthesis of the core-shell structured ZSM-5@Silicalite-1 zeolite with a strategy of alcohol filling and zeolite seeding without any organic template or solvent is exhibited. The obtained products are well characterized by X-ray powder diffractometer(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), N 2 sorption isotherms, solid magic angle spinning(MAS) NMR, temperature-programmed-desorption of ammonia(NH 3 -TPD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) techniques, in order to confirm the core-shell structure. More importantly, the core-shell structured ZSM-5@Silicalite-1 zeolite exhibits a long lifetime and a high p -xylene selectivity in the alkylation of toluene with methanol, compared with the conventional ZSM-5 catalyst.

Abstract:In this work, a Ni-based catalyst supported on a core–shell structure catalytic carrier material (Ni/ZSM-5@MCM-41) based on kaolinite tailings is reported, which exhibits excellent CO2 methanation performance at atmospheric pressure. At 400 °C, CO2 conversion and CH4 selectivity reach 80 and 97% with the space velocity of 12,000 mL gcat –1 h–1, respectively, and it can maintain good stability during the 80 h stability test. Compared with traditional Ni/ZSM-5 and Ni/MCM-41 catalysts, Ni/ZSM-5@MCM-41 has more substantial confinement effects on the active components, and the active components are more evenly dispersed on surface of the carrier. In addition, it is confirmed by the in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy technique that CO2 methanation over the Ni/ZSM-5@MCM-41 catalyst follows the path of formate and CO as intermediates.

Abstract:The catalytic conversion of methane into higher hydrocarbons in the absence of oxygen using propane as a co-reactant over the xCu-6% Zn/HZSM-5 (x = 0 similar to 0.9%) catalyst was investigated. It was found that methane could be activated and transferred into higher hydrocarbons and aromatics with a methane conversion of 36% and an aromatics selectivity of 85.7% at 600 degreesC and methane/propane molar ratio of 1.0. The effects of methane/propane molar ratio on the methane and propane conversion and product distribution were studied in details. There was a positive relationship between the methane activation and aromatics production. Incorporation of methane into aromatics was confirmed by mass spectral analysis of aromatics products in the aromatization of isotope-labeled (CH4)-C-13 in the presence of propane, in which significant C-13 enrichment in C6H6+, C7H8+ and C8H10+ fragments was found.

Abstract:A novel PtSnNa/ZSM-5 monolithic catalyst was designed and synthesized for the propane dehydrogenation reaction, which was a significant transformation in industry. Experimental results showed that although the propane conversion and the propylene selectivity gradually fell down along with the reaction time, the descent speed of the PtSnNa/ZSM-5 monolithic catalyst was slower than that of the granule catalyst and the propane conversion and propylene selectivity of the reaction with monolithic catalyst still remained at a high level after 12 hr. The monolithic catalyst had regular pore structure that facilitated the separation of the product from the catalyst and reduced the limitation on internal and external diffusion and mass transfer, and led to the high catalytic activity and stability. The catalyst could be easily fabricated and was of highly industrial application potential.

Abstract:Co-based catalysts have shown great promise for propane dehydrogenation (PDH) reactions due to their merits of environmental friendliness and low cost. In this study, ordered mesoporous molecular sieve-supported CoOx species (CoOx/Al-SBA-15 catalyst) were prepared by one-step organometallic complexation. The catalysts show worm-like morphology with regular straight-through mesoporous pores and high external specific surface area. These typical features can substantially enhance the dispersion of CoOx species and mass transfer of reactants and products. Compared with the conventional impregnation method, the 10CSOC (10 wt.% Co/Al-SBA-15 prepared by the organometallic complexation method) sample presents a smaller CoOx size and higher Co2+/Co3+ ratio. When applied to PDH reaction, the 10CSOC delivers higher propane conversion and propylene selectivity. Under the optimal conditions (625 °C and 4500 h-1), 10CSOC achieves high propane conversion (43%) and propylene selectivity (83%). This is attributed to the smaller and better dispersion of CoOx nanoparticles, more suitable acid properties, and higher content of Co2+ species. This work paves the way for the rational design of high-performance catalysts for industrially important reactions.
