Abstract:We consider the classical Liouville field theory on the Riemann surface with h>1 genus. In terms of the uniformization theorem of the Riemann surface, we show explicitly the classical exchange algebra (CEA) for the chiral components of the Liouville field. We find that this classical exchange algebra is just the same as that on a Riemann sphere with 2h punctures.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a geometrically stylized arithmetic cohomology for number fields. Based on such a cohomology, we define and study new yet genuine non-abelian zeta functions for number fields, using an intersection stability.

Abstract:This paper deals with superminimal surfaces in complex space forms by using theFrenet framing. We formulate explicitly the length squares of the higher fundamental forms andthe higher curvatures for superminimal surfaces in terms of the metric of the surface and the Khlerangle of the immersion. Particularly, some curvature pinching theorems for minimal 2-spheres in acomplex projective space are given and a new characterization of the Veronese sequence is obtained.

Abstract:We consider in this paper the classical Liouvelle field theory on the Riemann sphere with n punctures. In terms of the uniformization theorem of the Riemann surface, we explicitly show the classical exchange algebra (CEA) for the chiral components of the Liouville field. We find that the matrix which dominates the CEA is related to the symmetry of the Lie group SL(n) in a nontrivial manner with n>3.

Surveys in Differential Geometry

Abstract:In this paper we briefly discuss some of our recent results in the study of moduli space of Riemann surfaces. It is naturally divided into two parts, one about the differential geometric aspect, another on the topological aspect of the moduli spaces. To understand the geometry of the moduli spaces we introduced new metrics, studied in detail all of the known classical complete metrics, especially the Kähler-Einstein metric. As a corollary we proved that the logarithmic cotangent bundle of the moduli space is strictly stable in the sense of Mumford. The topological results we obtained were motivated by conjectures from string theory. We will describe in this part our proofs by localization method of the Mariño-Vafa formula, its two partition analogue as well as the theory of topological vertex and the simple localization proofs of the ELSV formula and the Witten conjecture. The applications of these formulas in Gromov-Witten theory and string duality will also be mentioned.
Refined Brill-Noether Locus and Non-Abelian Zeta Functions for Elliptic Curves

Abstract:New local and global non-abelian zeta functions for elliptic curves are studied using certain refined Brill-Noether loci in moduli spaces of semi-stable bundles. Examples of these zeta functions and a justification of using only semi-stable bundles are given too. We end this paper with an appendix on the so-called Weierstrass Groups for general curves, which is motivated by a construction of Euler systems from torsion points (of elliptic curves).

Abstract:We construct a global B-model for any quasi-homogeneous polynomial f that has properties similar to the properties of the physic's B-model on a Calabi-Yau manifold. The main ingredients in our construction are K. Saito's theory of primitive forms and Givental's higher genus reconstruction. More precisely, we consider the moduli space M-mar degrees of the so-called marginal deformations of f . For each point sigma is an element of M-mam degrees mar we introduce the notion of an opposite subspace in the twisted de Rham cohomology of the corresponding singularity f(sigma) and prove that opposite subspaces are in one-to-one correspondence with the splittings of the Hodge structure in the vanishing cohomology of f(sigma). Therefore, according to M. Saito, an opposite subspace gives rise to a semi-simple Frobenius structure on the space of miniversal deformations of f(sigma). Using Givental's higher genus reconstruction we define a total ancestor potential A(sigma) ((h) over bar, q) whose properties can be described quite elegantly in terms of the properties of the corresponding opposite subspace. For example, if the opposite subspace corresponds to the splitting of the Hodge structure given by complex conjugation, then the total ancestor potential is monodromy invariant and it satisfies the BCOV holomorphic anomaly equations. The coefficients of the total ancestor potential could be viewed as quasi-modular forms on M-Mar degrees in a certain generalized sense. As an application of our construction, we consider the case of a Fermat polynomial W that defines a Calabi-Yau hypersurface X-w in a weighted-projective space. We have constructed two opposite subspaces and proved that the corresponding total ancestor potentials can be identified with respectively the total ancestor potential of the orbifold quotient X-W/(G) over tilde (W) and the total ancestor potential of FJRW invariants corresponding to (W, G(W)). Here G(W) is the maximal group of diagonal symmetries of W and (G) over tilde (W) is a quotient of G(W) by the subgroup of those elements that act trivially on X-W. In particular, our result establishes the so-called Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for the pair (W, G(W)).

Abstract:Two-dimensional conformal field theory is a powerful tool to understand the geometry of surfaces. Here, we study Liouville conformal field theory in the classical (large central charge) limit, where it encodes the geometry of the moduli space of Riemann surfaces. Generalizing previous work, we employ this to study moduli spaces of higher genus surfaces, surfaces with boundaries, and surfaces with cone points. In each case, the knowledge of classical conformal blocks provides an extremely efficient approximation to the Weil-Petersson metric on moduli space. We find detailed agreement with analytic results for volumes and geodesic lengths on moduli space.

Abstract:For primes q ≡ 7 mod 16 , the present manuscript shows that elementary methods enable one to prove surprisingly strong results about the Iwasawa theory of the Gross family of elliptic curves with complex multiplication by the ring of integers of the field K = ℚ(√(-q)) , which are in perfect accord with the predictions of the conjecture of Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer. We also prove some interesting phenomena related to a classical conjecture of Greenberg, and give a new proof of an old theorem of Hasse.

Abstract:We prove a general structure theorem for finitely presented torsion modules over a class of commutative rings that need not be Noetherian. As a first application, we then use this result to study the Weil- étale cohomology groups of $\mathbb{G}_m$ for curves over finite fields.

Abstract:In this expository article, we outline a basic theory of group (co)homology and prove a cohomological formulation of the Local Reciprocity Law: $${\rm Gal}(L/K)^{\rm ab} \cong H_T^{-2}({\rm Gal}(L/K),\mathbb{Z}) \cong H_T^{0}({\rm Gal}(L/K),L^\times) \cong \frac{K^\times}{{\rm Nm}_{L/K}(L^\times)}$$ We first recall basic facts about local fields and homological algebra. Then we define group (co)homology, Tate cohomology, and furnish a toolbox. The Local Reciprocity Law is proven in an abstract cohomological setting, then applied to the case of local fields.

Abstract:Suppose $E$ is an elliptic curve defined over $\Q$. At the 1983 ICM the first author formulated some conjectures that propose a close relationship between the explicit class field theory construction of certain abelian extensions of imaginary quadratic fields and an explicit construction that (conjecturally) produces almost all of the rational points on $E$ over those fields. Those conjectures are to a large extent settled by recent work of Vatsal and of Cornut, building on work of Kolyvagin and others. In this paper we describe a collection of interrelated conjectures still open regarding the variation of Mordell-Weil groups of $E$ over abelian extensions of imaginary quadratic fields, and suggest a possible algebraic framework to organize them.

Abstract:Let $A$ be an abelian variety defined over a global function field $F$. We investigate the structure of the $p$-primary Selmer group $\mathrm{Sel}(A/F_\infty)$ for any prime number $p$ distinct from the characteristic of $F$, over $p$-adic Lie extensions $F_\infty$ of $F$ which contain the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $F^{\mathrm{cyc}}$. In particular, we prove that the Pontryagin dual of the Selmer group $\mathrm{Sel}(A/F^\mathrm{cyc})$ is a torsion $\mathbb{Z}_p[[\mathrm{Gal}(F^\mathrm{cyc}/F)]]$-module with trivial $\mu$-invariant, and we establish the $\mathfrak{M}_H(G)$-conjecture of Coates-Fukaya-Kato-Sujatha-Venjakob for $A/F_\infty$. In view of the validity of the $\mathfrak{M}_H(G)$-conjecture, it therefore makes sense to speak of the characteristic element (in the sense of Coates et al.) attached to the Pontryagin dual of $\mathrm{Sel}(A/F_\infty)$. We relate the order of vanishing of the characteristic elements, evaluated at Artin representations, to the corank of the Selmer group of the corresponding twist of $A$ over the base field $F$. Combining this with the deep results of Tate, Milne and Kato-Trihan, we show that the order of vanishing of the characteristic elements is equal to the order of vanishing of the $L$-function of $A/F$ at $s=1$ under appropriate assumptions. Finally, we relate the generalised Euler characteristic of $\mathrm{Sel}(A/F_\infty)$ to the Euler characteristic of $\mathrm{Sel}(A/F^{\mathrm{cyc}})$. This is a natural analogue of Zerbes' result in the number field context and generalises previous results of Sechi and Valentino in the function field context.
