Abstract:Classical modular forms on the upper half plane, with respect to the modular group SL(2,Z) and its congruence subgroups, have arisen naturally in number theory, complex analysis, topology, mathematical physics, and many other subjects. The closely related automorphic representations are basic notions in the celebrated Langlands program, which was proposed by Langlands in the late 1960s and has since revolutionized the fields of number theory, arithmetic algebraic geometry, and representation theory. This volume consists of expanded lecture notes from a 2007 international conference in Guangzhou, China, at which several leading experts in number theory presented introductions to, and surveys of, many aspects of automorphic forms and the Langlands program. Abstract:A computer simulation based on individual births and deaths gives a biodiversity increasing from cold to warm climates, in agreement with reality. Complexity of foodwebs increases with time and at a higher rate at low latitudes, and there is a higher rate of species creation at low latitudes. Keeping many niches empty makes the results correspond more closely to natural gradients.

Abstract:We describe a general method for giving $p$-adic interpretations of $G$-functions arising from degenerating periods of smooth projective algebraic varieties. Using this, we are able to implement a strategy due to André for bounding heights of moduli points where period functions acquire unusual algebraic relations. This leads to new results on Galois lower bounds for special moduli, and new cases of the Zilber-Pink conjecture. In particular, we establish the first Galois-orbit lower bounds on CM moduli in non-Shimura settings. As a more technical contribution, we introduce a refinement of the Pila-Zannier strategy capable of handling Zilber-Pink-type atypical intersection problems in arbitrary dimension and for arbitrary smooth projective families.

Abstract:We formulate Guo--Jacquet type fundamental lemma conjectures and arithmetic transfer conjectures for inner forms of $GL_{2n}$. Our main results confirm these conjectures for division algebras of invariant $1/4$ and $3/4$.

Abstract:Yuan and Zhang introduced arithmetic intersection numbers for adelic line bundles on quasi-projective varieties over a number field. Burgos and Kramer generalized this approach allowing more singular metrics at archimedean places. We introduce abstract divisorial spaces as a tool to generalize these arithmetic intersection numbers to the setting of a proper adelic base curve in the sense of Chen and Moriwaki. We also allow more singular metrics at non-archimedean places using relative mixed energy there as well.

Non-reductive special cycles and Twisted Arithmetic Fundamental Lemma

Abstract:We consider arithmetic analogs of the relative Langlands program and applications of new non-reductive geometry. Firstly, we introduce mirabolic special cycles, which produce special cycles on many Hodge type Rapoport-Zink spaces via pullbacks e.g. Kudla--Rapoport cycles. Secondly, we formulate arithmetic intersection problems for these cycles and formulate a method of arithmetic induction. As a main example, we formulate arithmetic twisted Gan--Gross--Prasad conjectures on unitary Shimura varieties and prove a key twisted arithmetic fundamental lemma using mirabolic special cycles, arithmetic inductions, and Weil type relative trace formulas.

Abstract:We shall describe a simple generalization of commutative rings. The category GR of such "rings", contains the ordinary commutative rings (fully faithfully), but also the "integers" and "residue field" at a real or complex place of a field ; the "field with one element" (the initial object of GR ); the "arithmetical surface" ( the sum in the category GR of the integers with them self: Z(x)Z ) . We shall show that this geometry "see" the real and complex places of a number field (there is an Ostrowski theorem that the valuation sub-GR of a number field correspond to the finite and infinite primes; there is a compactification of the spectrum of the integers ). One can develop algebraic geometry using GR following Grothendieck paradigm . Quillen's homotopical algebra replaces homological algebra . There is an analogue of Quillen's cotangent bundle - in particular there is a theory of non-additive derivations, with modules of Kahler differentials which satisfy all the usual exact sequences - we compute explicitly the differentials of the integers Z over the initial object F1 . Finally we associate with any topological compact valuation GR a meromorphic function - its "zeta" : for the p-adic integers we get the p-local factor of zeta, for the "real integers" we get the gamma factor.

Abstract:We define some formal moduli space of quasi-isogenies of isoclinic $p$-divisible groups with a non-reductive group as the "structure group". We then formulate new Arithmetic Fundamental Lemma conjectures for Bessel subgroups in the context of the arithmetic Gan-Gross-Prasad conjectures. Some (very limited) evidence is presented.

Abstract:The usual dictionary between geometry and commutative algebra is not appropriate for Arithmetic geometry because addition is a singular operation at the "Real prime". We replace Rings, with addition and multiplication, by Props (=strict symmetric monoidal category generated by one object), or by Bioperad (=two closed symmetric operads acting on each other): to a ring we associate the prop of all matrices over it, with matrix multiplication and block direct sums as the basic operations, or the bioperad consisting of all raw and column vectors over it. We define the "commutative" props and bioperads, and using them we develop a generalized algebraic geometry, following Grothendieck footsteps closely. This new geometry is appropriate for Arithmetic (and potentially also for Physics).

Abstract:Fix a prime number and let be a CM extension of number fields in which splits relatively. Let be an automorphic representation of a quasi-split unitary group of even rank with respect to such that is ordinary above with respect to the Siegel parabolic subgroup. We construct the cyclotomic -adic -function of , and a certain generating series of Selmer classes of special cycles on Shimura varieties. We show, under some conditions, that if the vanishing order of the -adic -function is 1, then our generating series is modular and yields explicit nonzero classes (called Selmer theta lifts) in the Selmer group of the Galois representation of associated with ; in particular, the rank of this Selmer group is at least 1. In fact, we prove a precise formula relating the -adic heights of Selmer theta lifts to the derivative of the -adic -function. In parallel to Perrin-Riou's -adic analogue of the Gross–Zagier formula, our formula is the -adic analogue of the arithmetic inner product formula recently established by Chao Li and the second author.

Abstract:Generalised hypergeometric sheaves are rigid local systems on the punctured projective line with remarkable properties. Their study originated in the seminal work of Riemann on the Euler–Gauss hypergeometric function and has blossomed into an active field with connections to many areas of mathematics. In this paper, we construct the Hecke eigensheaves whose eigenvalues are the irreducible hypergeometric local systems, thus confirming a central conjecture of the geometric Langlands program for hypergeometrics. The key new concept is the notion of hypergeometric automorphic data. We prove that this automorphic data is generically rigid (in the sense of Zhiwei Yun) and identify the resulting Hecke eigenvalue with hypergeometric sheaves. The definition of hypergeometric automorphic data in the tame case involves the mirabolic subgroup, while in the wild case, semistable (but not necessarily stable) vectors coming from principal gradings intervene.

On the height of the universal abelian variety

Abstract:In this paper we extend the arithmetic intersection theory of adelic divisors on quasiprojective varieties developed by X. Yuan and S. W. Zhang to cover certain adelic arithmetic divisors that are not nef nor integrable. The key concept used in this extension is the relative finite energy introduced by T. Darvas, E. Di Nezza, and C. H. Lu. As an application we compute the arithmetic self-intersection number of the line bundle of Siegel-Jacobi forms on the universal abelian variety endowed with its invariant hermitian metric. The techniques developed in this paper can be applied in many other situations like mixed Shimura varieties or the moduli space of stable marked curves.

Abstract:Let X be a normal complex algebraic variety, and p a prime. We show that there exists an integer N=N(X, p) such that: any non-trivial, irreducible representation of the fundamental group of X, which arises from geometry, must be non-trivial mod p^N. The proof involves an analysis of the action of the Galois group of a finitely generated field on the etale fundamental group of X. We also prove many arithmetic statements about fundamental groups which are of independent interest, and give several applications.

Abstract:Gauss and Dedekind have shown a bijection between the set of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{Z})$-equivalence classes of primitive positive definite binary quadratic $\mathbb{Z}$-forms of the discriminant of $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{\Delta<0})$ and the class group of its ring of integers. Using étale cohomology we show an analogue of this correspondence in the positive characteristic. This leads to the description of the set of genera and to another result analogous to Gauss' one by which any form composed with itself belongs to the principal genus.
