Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a geometrically stylized arithmetic cohomology for number fields. Based on such a cohomology, we define and study new yet genuine non-abelian zeta functions for number fields, using an intersection stability.

Abstract:New local and global non-abelian zeta functions for elliptic curves are studied using certain refined Brill-Noether loci in moduli spaces of semi-stable bundles. Examples of these zeta functions and a justification of using only semi-stable bundles are given too. We end this paper with an appendix on the so-called Weierstrass Groups for general curves, which is motivated by a construction of Euler systems from torsion points (of elliptic curves).

Abstract:In this paper we generalize and put in a new light part of ``Fouier analysis on Number fields and Hecke's zeta function''[14] by Tate. We express the relative Euler characteristic using purely adelic language. By using certain natural normalization of Haar measure on adeles we obtain the relative Riemann-Roch theorem. In particular we show that using our relative normalization of the Haar measure on adeles we can obtain the relative Riemann-Roch theorem from the adelic Poisson summation formulae. In addition, using our methods we define the relative 'size of cohomology' numbers, i.e. extract the $h^0$ and $h^1$ part of the relative Euler characteristic. Our theory not only covers both absolute and relative cases, but also the case of an arithmetic curve and a nonsingular, projective curve over a finite field.

Abstract:In recent years L-functions and their analytic properties have assumed a central role in number theory and automorphic forms. In this expository article, we describe the two major methods for proving the analytic continuation and functional equations of $L$-functions: the method of integral representations, and the method of Fourier expansions of Eisenstein series. Special attention is paid to technical properties, such as boundedness in vertical strips; these are essential in applying the converse theorem, a powerful tool that uses analytic properties of L-functions to establish cases of Langlands functoriality conjectures. We conclude by describing striking recent results which rest upon the analytic properties of L-functions.

Riemann zeta functions for Krull monoids

Abstract:The primary purpose of this paper is to generalize the classical Riemann zeta function to the setting of Krull monoids with torsion class groups. We provide a first study of the same generalization by extending Euler's classical product formula to the more general scenario of Krull monoids with torsion class groups. In doing so, the Decay Theorem is fundamental as it allows us to use strong atoms instead of primes to obtain a weaker version of the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic in the more general setting of Krull monoids with torsion class groups. Several related examples are exhibited throughout the paper, in particular, algebraic number fields for which the generalized Riemann zeta function specializes to the Dedekind zeta function.

A Weyl Creation Algebra Approach to the Riemann Hypothesis

Abstract:We sketch a Weyl creation operator approach to the Riemann Hypothesis; i.e.,arithmetic on the Weyl algebras with ergodic theory to transport operators. We prove that finite Hasse-Dirichlet alternating zeta functions or eta functions can be induced from a product of "creation operators". The latter idea is the result of considering complex quantum mechanics with complex time-space related concepts. Then we overview these ideas, with variations, which may provide a pathway that may settle RH; e.g., a Euler Factor analysis to study the quantum behavior of the integers as one pushes up the critical line near a macro zeta function zero.

Abstract:We discuss some recent results on algebraic differential properties of the Riemann ζ-function and the Euler Γ-function and prove two results in this direction. Especially, we will define a new class of meromorphic functions in terms of zeros of the Riemann ζ-function on the critical line and prove that algebraic equations with coefficients in this class cannot be satisfied by the Riemann ζ-function and the Euler Γ-function.
A Number Field Analogue of Ramanujan's identity for $ζ(2m+1)$

Abstract:Ramanujan's famous formula for $\zeta(2m+1)$ has captivated the attention of numerous mathematicians over the years. Grosswald, in 1972, found a simple extension of Ramanujan's formula which in turn gives transformation formula for Eisenstein series over the full modular group. Recently, Banerjee, Gupta and Kumar found a number field analogue of Ramanujan's formula. In this paper, we present a new number field analogue of the Ramanujan-Grosswald formula for $\zeta(2m+1)$ by obtaining a formula for Dedekind zeta function at odd arguments. We also obtain a number field analogue of an identity of Chandrasekharan and Narasimhan, which played a crucial role in proving our main identity. As an application, we generalize transformation formula for Eisenstein series $G_{2k}(z)$ and Dedekind eta function $\eta(z)$. A new formula for the class number of a totally real number field is also obtained, which provides a connection with the Kronceker's limit formula for the Dedekind zeta function.

Abstract:We show that by working over the absolute base $\mathbb S$ (the categorical version of the sphere spectrum) instead of $\mathbb S[\pm 1]$ improves our previous Riemann-Roch formula for $\overline{{\rm Spec\,}\mathbb Z}$. The formula equates the (integer-valued) Euler characteristic of an Arakelov divisor with the sum of the degree of the divisor (using logarithms with base 2) and the number $1$, thus confirming the understanding of the ring $\mathbb Z$ as a ring of polynomials in one variable over the absolute base $\mathbb S$, namely $\mathbb S[X], 1+1=X+X^2$.

The techniques used include algebraic geometry, complex geometry, and model theory. Possible applications to the study of wild ramification in finite characteristic are discussed.

Abstract:Using the same heuristic argument leading to the Lang-Waldschmidt Conjecture in the theory of linear forms in logarithms, we formulate an effective version of the Linear Independence conjecture for the ordinates of the non-trivial zeros of the Riemann zeta function. Then assuming this conjecture, we obtain Omega results for the error term in the prime number theorem, which are conjectured to be best possible by Montgomery. This was claimed to appear in Monach's thesis by Montgomery and Vaughan in their classical book, but such a result or its proof is nowhere to be found in this thesis or in the litterature. Moreover, if in addition to this effective Linear Independence conjecture we assume a conjecture of Gonek and Hejhal on the negative moments of the derivative of the Riemann zeta function, we can show that the summatory function of the Möbius function $M(x)$ is $\Omega_{\pm}\left(\sqrt{x}(\log\log\log x)^{5/4}\right)$. This conditionally resolves a part of a conjecture of Gonek.

Abstract:In these lectures we first review the important properties of the Riemann $\zeta$-function that are necessary to understand the nature and importance of the Riemann hypothesis (RH). In particular this first part describes the analytic continuation, the functional equation, trivial zeros, the Euler product formula, Riemann's main result relating the zeros on the critical strip to the distribution of primes, the exact counting formula for the number of zeros on the strip $N(T)$, and the GUE statistics of the zeros on the critical line. We then turn to presenting some new results obtained in the past year and describe several strategies towards proving the RH. First we describe an electrostatic analogy and argue that if the electric potential along the line $\Re (z) =1$ is a regular alternating function, the RH would follow. The main new result is that the zeros on the critical line are in one-to-one correspondence with the zeros of the cosine function, and this leads to a transcendental equation for the $n$-th zero on the critical line that depends only on $n$. If there is a unique solution to this equation for every $n$, denoting $N_0 (T)$ the number of zeros on the critical line, then $N_0(T) = N(T)$, i.e. all zeros are on the critical line. These results are generalized to two infinite classes of functions, Dirichlet $L$-functions and $L$-functions based on modular forms. We present extensive numerical analysis of the solutions of these equations. We apply these methods to the Davenport-Heilbronn $L$-function, which is known to have zeros off of the line, and explain why the RH fails in this case. We also present a new approximation to the $\zeta$-function that is analogous to the Stirling approximation to the $\Gamma$-function. In this updated version we added references to subsequent publications that made progress on open questions posed in the previous version from 10 years ago.
