Abstract:The removal of impurities in molybdenum concentrate has become a new challenge for enterprises due to the cancellation of pickling. Whether impurity minerals can be converted into soluble ions during roasting is important for the impurity removal by current water washing. In this work, the interaction between various impurity elements in the treatment process of molybdenum concentrate was studied by process simulation experiments combined with X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES), ion chromatography (IC), scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS), the use of FactSage7.0 modeling and the mineral liberation analyzer (MLA). The results show that most of the impurity elements such as K, Si and Al exist in the form of alkaline minerals with large molecular weight. In the roasting process of molybdenum concentrate, K-containing minerals, such as muscovite and orthoclase, can be transformed into K+, Al3+ and other soluble ions, and then can be removed by water washing. Humidification increased the conversion degree of orthoclase to soluble ions, which was conducive to the removal of impurities by the washing process. The results of MLA microscopic analysis confirmed that impurities such as FeS2, CaSO4, SiO2, and especially FeS2, would form a high density mixture with MoO3 during the high temperature roasting process, and thus reduced the leaching rate of Mo. Therefore, the humidification and control of the molybdenum concentrate is an effective measure to remove impurities.

Abstract:Molybdenum is an important alloy element for metallurgical industry because of its high temperature stability. As the major mineral reserve for molybdenum, molybdenite (MoS2) is commonly found in porphyry copper deposits. Molybdenite is naturally floatable and can be separated from copper sulfide mineral using froth flotation. Properties of molybdenite such as mineralogy, microstructure, surface wettability, zeta potential, etc. can have a great effect on its floatability. Organic and inorganic depressants and surface pre-treatment methods are applied to improve the recovery of molybdenite. Electrochemical potential measurements using different electrodes are used to monitor process conditions and enable processing parameter adjustments to improve flotation circuit performance and reduce operating costs. Cations like Ca2+ and Mg2+ are reported to have negative effects on the flotation of molybdenite in alkaline solution, and dispersants and oil collectors need to be added to restore the flotation of molybdenite. In addition, effects of gangue minerals, particle size, and oil collectors and surfactants on molybdenite recovery are also discussed in this manuscript.

Abstract:The synergetic utilization of ferruginous gibbsite ores (Al-Fe ores) and ferruginous manganese ores (Mn-Fe ores) by the carbothermic co-reduction roasting–magnetic separation process was proposed as an innovative and green process for the separation and recovery of the valuable metal elements of Mn, Fe and Al from these ores. In this paper, a ferromanganese crude alloy with 72.47% Fe and 10.19% Mn and a high recovery of 85.89% Fe was prepared, which produces an acceptable feed to produce manganese steels with an electric arc furnace. The synergistic co-reduction of the two kinds of complex and refractory minerals was favored to separate Fe, Mn and Al from these ores. The influence of the operating variables on the recovery and separation of valuable metals from Mn-Fe ores and Al-Fe ores is initially studied. Then, the stepwise reduction behaviors of a composite oxide Mn1-xFexO (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) and hercynite (Mn1−yFeyAl2O4, 0 ≤ y ≤ 1) were investigated to clarify that Mn-Fe ores have a positive impact on the reduction of fayalite and hercynite in Al-Fe ores. This study reported a simple green route, the carbothermic co-reduction–magnetic separation process, to economically and effectively treat Al-Fe ores and Mn-Fe ores.

Abstract:Microwave heating technology, as a new green metallurgical method, is the core technology used in metallurgical engineering. Based on a brief overview of the principle of microwave technology heating and its application in the metallurgical industry, this paper summarizes the latest research progress and development status of the current microwave heating technology in the hydrometallurgy leaching process and the trend of the application of microwave heating technology in metallurgy. A detailed classification and discussion on the leaching process of common metals were made. The purpose is to further improve the application level of the technology and provide technical support for the improvement of the market position of China’s metallurgical industry. Finally, the problems that need to be urgently solved in the hydrometallurgy of microwave-assisted leaching are further discussed and prospects and suggestions are also discussed.

Abstract:Orthogonal experiments were conducted to study the effect of each single factor on the desulfurization rate and leaching rate of Mn2+ to obtain improved process parameters. The results showed that the use of pyrolusite flue gas and the process method of by-product MnSO4 can not only effectively remove the sulfur in the gas, thereby controlling environmental pollution, but can also recover sulfur.

Abstract:Owing to its complex characteristics, the large-scale utilization of ferromanganese ore is limited by the traditional processes. In this study, suspension magnetization roasting and magnetic separation technology was proposed, and the thermodynamics, phase and magnetic transformation, and microstructure evolution of the main minerals were systematically investigated during roasting. Results show that iron concentrate with iron grade of 68.31% at a recovery of 96.34% can be obtained in the magnetic separation concentrate, and manganese concentrate with manganese grade of 33.70% at a recovery of 86.83% can be obtained in magnetic separation tailings under optimum conditions. Pyrolusite and braunite were reduced to weak magnetic manganosite, and weak magnetic hematite was selectively transformed into strong magnetic magnetite. Many cracks appeared in the ores owing to the multiple reduction and dehydration reactions of ferromanganese ore, which was favorable for grinding and separation of manganese and iron.

Abstract:Oxidation and dissolution of Mo-bearing minerals are key factors to enhance the Mo leaching rate from Mo-bearing black shale.The paper analyzes the theory of oxidative alkaline leaching of Mo-bearing black shale and draws molybdenum concentration-pH figure,based on which,several experiment are completed.The experimental results show that the leaching rate of molybdenum under the different pH of the leaching system of Mo-bearing black shale was consistent with the lgT-pH diagram under the condition of temperature 150℃,reacting time 3 hours,agitator rotating 500 r/min and oxygen pressure of 1.2MPa.

Abstract:Mineral resources today are increasingly determined by the concept of "persistent". The reason for their difficult opening is in the composition of sulfide nature, leading to passivation of the surface and inhibition of hydrometallurgical processes. The way out in practice was found in oxidative firing and some other technologies. The work compares the results of leaching of molybdenite concentrate of Almalyk MMC JSC according to the schemes: the existing calcining-ammonia and non-calcining with nitric acid, hypochlorite opening and leaching. Non-calcining with hypochlorite opening and leaching scheme is not only ecologically cleaner in compare with pyro-metallurgy, but it relocates quantitatively to the solution not only molybdenum, rhenium, but gold and silver as well.

Abstract:A brief review of bioleaching of molybdenum minerals was firstly put forward,and the factors reasonable for low molybdenum recovery in bioleaching were summarized.Secondly,key problems in bacterial leaching of molybdenum minerals were discussed,which included leaching feasibility of the molybdenite,bacteria involved in leaching,leaching mechanisms,the influence of Mo ions to microbial growth and inhibition of precipitation to mineral dissolution.Additionally,technologies for efficient bioleaching of molybdenite were proposed.The technologies contained bacterial genetic modification,multistage bioreactor leaching and redox potential adjustment in leaching systems.

Abstract:Roasting of metallic ore is an important process in the metal smelting industry, in which the ore undergoes intense chemical changes to purify the metallic components. Fluidized bed technology has the advantages of strengthening mass and heat transfer, enhancing the chemical reaction rate, and at the same time the temperature uniformity in the furnace, which often makes it the preferred choice in metallic ore roasting. The development of fluidized bed roasting technology in the roasting of different types of metal ores with the latest advances in reaction kinetics, flow and heat transfer characteristics, and process optimization are introduced by taking three typical applications of fluidized bed roasting of pyrite, hematite, and zinc sulfide concentrate as examples. The future development trend in the context of carbon neutrality is prospected. Fluidized bed roasting technology is anticipated to be applied to more types of metallic ores. Meanwhile, it could be rapidly developed in flow and particle size optimization, pollutant control, and energy utilization.

Abstract:The preparation process of sodium molybdate has the disadvantages of high energy consumption, low thermal efficiency, and high raw material requirement of molybdenum trioxide, in order to realize the green and efficient development of molybdenum concentrate resources, this paper proposes a new process for efficient recovery of molybdenum from molybdenum concentrate and preparation of sodium molybdate by microwave-enhanced roasting and alkali leaching. Thermodynamic analysis indicated the feasibility of oxidation roasting of molybdenum concentrate. The effects of roasting temperature, holding time, and power-to-mass ratio on the oxidation product and leaching product sodium molybdate (Na 2 MoO 4 ·2H 2 O) were investigated. Under the optimal process conditions: roasting temperature of 700°C, holding time of 110 min, and power-to-mass ratio of 110 W/g, the molybdenum state of existence was converted from MoS 2 to MoO 3 . The process of preparing sodium molybdate by alkali leaching of molybdenum calcine was investigated, the optimal leaching conditions include a solution concentration of 2.5 mol/L, a liquid-to-solid ratio of 2 mL/g, a leaching temperature of 60°C, and leaching solution termination at pH 8. The optimum conditions result in a leaching rate of sodium molybdate of 96.24%. Meanwhile, the content of sodium molybdate reaches 94.08wt% after leaching and removing impurities. Iron and aluminum impurities can be effectively separated by adjusting the pH of the leaching solution with sodium carbonate solution. This research avoids the shortcomings of the traditional process and utilizes the advantages of microwave metallurgy to prepare high-quality sodium molybdate, which provides a new idea for the high-value utilization of molybdenum concentrate.

Abstract:The purpose of the work is the substantiation and development of technological solutions for smelting metallic manganese and its alloys based on the duplex technology "arc electric steel-smelting furnace-converter of gas-oxygen refining." Methods: thermodynamic analysis by stage reactions and phase transformations of starting substances involved in chemical reactions; laboratory and industrial research; chemical analysis. Scientific innovation: when converting low-phosphorous manganese slag and involving recycled silicomanganese, the possibility of obtaining metallic manganese is shown when pulverized lime is introduced during blowing. The possibility of smelting low-carbon ferromanganese and metallic manganese in the converter of gas-oxygen refining by the silicothermal method is substantiated. Practical value: In semi-industrial and industrial gas-oxygen refining converters, technologies for obtaining low- and medium-carbon ferromanganese and metallic manganese by the silicothermal method and blowing high-carbon ferromanganese with gaseous oxygen have been tested. The silicothermal method provided high productivity, ease of metallurgical redistribution, high manganese extraction, minimal manganese "hits" with evaporation and transition of manganese to slag.

Abstract:A process of enriching manganese is investigated.The best conductions is obtained,It shows that when we roast the mixture of ore,NH_4Cl and(NH_4)_2 SO_4(20∶10∶5) for 60min at 450 ℃ leach the calcine,Mn recovery is up to 85%.After filtering and drying,the manganese concentrate is prepared(Mn>49%).

Abstract:Ammonium sulfate roasting-water leaching technology is a potential cleaner production process with low energy consumption, minor equipment corrosion and high selectivity contrasted with the traditional metallurgy process. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the main mineral of serpentine and magnesium iron ore in raw ore could react with ammonium sulfate, and the analysis through XRD and EDS also proved that most mineral phases were (NH4)(3)Fe(SO4)(3), (NH4)(2)Mg-2(SO4)(3), Fe2O3, and SiO2 as roasting products. With the decomposition of original mineral in roasting process, valuable metals of nickel, cobalt and manganese disseminated in other host minerals could be released to react with ammonium sulfate and produce metal sulfate which could be leached into the water. However, the iron mainly existed in iron oxide was water-insoluble and remained in residues. The conditions of the ammonium ulfate roasting-water leaching process, such as ammonium sulfate dosage, roasting temperature, roasting time, leaching temperature, and leaching time have been investigated here. The roasting temperature (only 400 degrees C) is lower than other pyrometallurgical process, which leads to less energy consumption and equipment corrosion. The leaching of Ni, Co, Mn and Fe could be 90.8%, 85.4%, 86.7% and 9.98% at the optimal condition, and the selectivity extraction can be achieved. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Improving utilization efficiency of refractory iron ore resources is a common theme for the sustainable development of the world's steel and iron industry. Magnetization roasting is considered as an effective and typical method for the beneficiation of refractory iron ores. After magnetization roasting, the weakly magnetic iron minerals, including hematite, limonite and siderite, are selectively reduced or oxidized to ferromagnetic magnetite, which is relatively easier to enrich by magnetic separation after liberation pretreatments. The primary magnetization roasting methods include shaft furnace roasting, rotary kiln roasting, fluidized bed roasting, and microwave assisted roasting. This review highlights the developments in magnetization roasting of difficult to treat iron ores, including shaft furnace roasting, rotary kiln roasting, fluidized bed roasting, and microwave assisted roasting in the past decade. Fluidized bed roasting and microwave assisted roasting are considered as the most effective and promising methods, which is essential to be reviewed. Meanwhile, the effective and future magnetization roasting technologies are recommended throughout this review.
