Abstract:The results obtained using the QForm software package are presented for the study of factors affecting the wear of solid mandrels made of 4X5MFS steel during hot rolling of vessels made of 50 steel using a 30–80 screw mill. Computer modeling revealed a significant unevenness of the temperature distribution along the length of the mandrel. By modeling the deformation process, it was found that when rolling the first vessel along the length of the mandrel, a temperature unevenness from 250 to 500 °C is observed, and following rolling the hundredth vessel, the temperature of the mandrel increases by approximately 100 °C and varies along the length from 350 to 600 °C. Modeling allowed the wear distribution along the length of the mandrel to be forecasted during various periods of rolling vessels on the mill. Following the rolling of the first vessel, the wear varies from tangents from 0.00001 to 0.0006 mm and normal stresses from 0.001 to 0.042 mm, and following the rolling of the hundredth vessel, the wear value of the mandrel increases to 2.4 mm in the nose. The quantitative regularities of temperature distribution and wear of the piercing solid mandrels revealed by computer modeling are likely to affect their quality under real deformation conditions, which requires experimental verification and the development of a rational mandrel design, which will be provided in the second part of the article.
