Abstract:There has been drawn an attention by the Thermoelectric materials for the last centuries due to its transduction ability of conversion of heat into electricity and vice-versa. Thus these materials have an immense potential of alternative source of power generation and refrigeration. This paper describes performance of Bi2Ti3 thermoelectric material through thermoelectric generator (TEG) for solar energy as input heat source in central India. Max. hot side temperature 206 °C, cold side temperature 43 °C, TEG output voltage of 9.5 V instead of 12 V (rated), TEG no load current of 0.09A at a beam radiation of 510 W/m2 are observed. TEG power output fed to cooling fan was calculated ≈ 0.94 W. Experimental observations are used for performance evaluation of Bi2Ti3 by developed TEG. The maximum thermoelectric material efficiency and overall Parabolic dish concentrated solar thermoelectric generator (CSTEG) system efficiency are determined as 70% and 0.11% respectively. Bi2Ti3 is a feasible material for power solution. This paper also covers brief knowledge of fundamentals of thermoelectricity in thermoelectric materials, relationship among various parameters physical–chemical properties and classification of thermoelectric material. Hence the information furnished in this article will provide comprehensive knowledge of scalability potential of TE material application for power generation in central India.
