Abstract:Two classes of symmetric sums on products of partial sums of binomial coefficients are examined. Explicit formulae are established that give rise to several interesting binomial identities, including a very particular case discovered by Chang and Shan in 1983.

Abstract:Making use of a telescoping approach, three types of sums of binomial quotients are examined. The summation terms of the two types of alternating sums have symmetry (i.e., their numerators and denominators are completely symmetric). We obtained a series of their explicit sums. Furthermore, by means of binomial relations, three recurrence relations of the sums are derived. In addition, series of double summation formulae involving binomial quotients are established.

Abstract:In this paper we initiate the study of products and sums divisible by central binomial coefficients. We show that 2(2n+1)binom(2n,n)| binom(6n,3n)binom(3n,n) for every n=1,2,3,... Also, for any nonnegative integers $k$ and $n$ we have $$\binom {2k}k | \binom{4n+2k+2}{2n+k+1}\binom{2n+k+1}{2k}\binom{2n-k+1}n$$ and $$\binom{2k}k | (2n+1)\binom{2n}nC_{n+k}\binom{n+k+1}{2k},$$ where $C_m$ denotes the Catalan number $\binom{2m}m/(m+1)=\binom{2m}m-\binom{2m}{m+1}$. Applying this result we obtain two sums divisible by central binomial coefficients.

Abstract:Five classes of multiple sums about circular products of binomial coefficients are investigated. Their generating functions are explicitly expressed as rational functions, with coefficients being Fibonacci and Lucas numbers. This is fulfilled by a novel approach called "recursive construction", which also permits us to establish, for the circular sums, both generating functions and recurrence relations through the Lagrange expansion formula.

Abstract:Let k be a positive integer and p be a prime.We give some congruences involving the binomial coefficients((k+1)p-a)p-a),(kp-1p-a) with 1 ≤ a ≤ p-1 and （kp+p-1/2b±p-1/2±b),(kp-1p-1/2±b) with 0 ≤ b ≤ p-1/2.In particular,we get a generalization of Morley's congruence.Meanwhile,some congruences about the summation of ((k+1)p-ap-a) are obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider two particular binomial sums [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] which are inspired by two series for [Formula: see text] obtained by Guillera. We consider their divisibility properties and prove that they are divisible by [Formula: see text] for all integers [Formula: see text]. These divisibility properties are stronger than those divisibility results found by He, who proved the above two sums are divisible by [Formula: see text] with the WZ-method.

Abstract:A generalized central trinomial coefficient T_n(b,c) is the coefficient of x^n in the expansion of (x^2+bx+c)^n with b,c∈ℤ. In this paper we investigate congruences and series for sums of terms related to central binomial coefficients and generalized central trinomial coefficients. The paper contains many conjectures on congruences related to representations of primes by certain binary quadratic forms, and 62 proposed new series for 1/π motivated by congruences and related dualities.

Abstract:In this paper, we deduce several new identities on infinite series with denominators of summands containing both binomial coefficients and linear parts. For example, we evaluate the sums $$\sum_{k=1}^\infty\frac{x_0^k}{(2k-1)\binom{3k}k},\ \sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{x_0^k}{(3k+1)\binom{3k}k} \ \text{and}\ \sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{x_0^k}{(3k+2)\binom{3k}k}$$ for any $x_0\in(-27/4,27/4)$. For any $1<n\le 85/4$, we obtain the following fast converging series for $\log n$: $$\begin{aligned}&\sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{(2(n^2+6n+1)^2k+n^4+30n^2+1)(n-1)^{4k}}{(4k+1)(-n)^k(n+1)^{2k}\binom{4k}{2k}}\\&\qquad=8n(n+1)^2-2n(n^2-1)\log n.\end{aligned}$$ We also prove that $$\sum_{k=0}^\infty\frac{153965k^2-96459k+22786}{(-8)^k\binom{4k}k}=\frac{64}5(1634-45\log2).$$ In addition, we pose many new conjectural series identities involving binomial coefficients; for example, we conjecture that $$\sum_{k=1}^\infty\frac{\binom{2k}k^3}{4096^k}\bigg(9(42k+5)\sum_{j=0}^{k-1}\frac1{(2j+1)^4}+\frac{25}{(2k+1)^3}\bigg)=\frac 56\pi^3.$$

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime, and $N$ be a positive integer not divisible by $p$. Denote by ${\rm ord}_N(p)$ the multiplicative order of $p$ modulo $N$. Let $\mathbb{F}_q$ represent the finite field of order $q=p^{{\rm ord}_N(p)}$. For $a, b\in\mathbb{F}_q$, we define a binomial exponential sum by $$S_N(a,b):=\sum_{x\in\mathbb{F}_q\setminus\{0\}}\chi(ax^{\frac{q-1}{N}}+bx),$$ where $\chi$ is the canonical additive character of $\mathbb{F}_q$. In this paper, we provide an explicit evaluation of $S_{N}(a,b)$ for any odd prime $p$ and any $N$ satisfying ${\rm ord}_{N}(p)=\phi(N)$. Our elementary and direct approach allows for the construction of a class of ternary linear codes, with their exact weight distribution determined. Furthermore, we prove that the dual codes achieve optimality with respect to the sphere packing bound, thereby generalizing previous results from even to odd characteristic fields.

Simple Formulas for Univariate Multinomial Coefficients

Abstract:We present novel arithmetic term formulas for univariate multinomial coefficients and their partial sums. Notably, we introduce what appear to be the first closed-form expressions for partial sums of binomial coefficients. These results stem from an underutilized property of polynomials, which allows for their complete determination using only two evaluations under specific conditions. Our findings contribute to the foundation of arithmetic term formulas, an emerging and promising area of research in discrete mathematics.

Abstract:Wu showed that certain sums of products of binomial coefficients modulo 2 are given by the run length transforms of several famous linear recurrence sequences, such as the positive integers, the Fibonacci numbers, the extended Lucas numbers, and Narayana's cows sequence. In this paper we show that the run length transform of such sequences are 2-regular sequences. This allows us to obtain Wu's results and some new ones using the computer program Walnut, eliminating the need for long technical proofs.

Abstract:In this note, we consider asymptotic products of binomial and multinomial coefficients and determine their asymptotic constants and formulas. Among them, special cases are the central binomial coefficients, the related Catalan numbers, and binomial coefficients in a row of Pascal's triangle. For the latter case, we show that it can also be derived from a limiting case of products of binomial coefficients over the rows. The asymptotic constants are expressed by known constants, for example, the Glaisher-Kinkelin constant. In addition, the constants lie in certain intervals that we determine precisely. Subsequently, we revisit a related result of Hirschhorn and clarify the given numerical constant by showing the exact expression.
