Abstract:The difficulties in the construction of Pingtan strait hi-rail bridge come from its large scale, long life cycle, diverse ocean environment with deep water, strong wind, exposed granite and heavy sea water corrosion. In view of the different geological conditions and water depth, detailed classification of trestle bridge is employed and researches and analyses are conducted to define design parameters so as to provide references for the design of the substructure of such trestle bridges in similar water areas.

Abstract:Pingtan Strait combined highway and railway bridge is the first cross-sea hi/rail bridge in China.In the sea area where the bridge is located with strong wind,high waves,deep water,rip current and apparent tides.In addition,the rock surface inclination fluctuates greatly,exposed rock/hard rock spreads extensively,meteorological,hydrological and geological conditions are all very complicated,especially in the sea area where the bridge is located with huge wave-current force,and all these make the design and construction of the bridge substructure unexpectedly difficult.In order to solve the wind/wave action and ship impacting force action when navigation is proceeding,multi-innovative technologies are adopted during foundation design and construction of three large-span navigable cable-stayed bridges,and drilled piles of 4.5 m diameter are used for the first time.Type KTY 5000 power head drilling machine and relevant pile-driving equipment are studied and developed to solve the problems in drilled piles construction in complicated sea areas.Construction platforms supported by jackets frames are built in some deep water exposed rock areas to overcome the wave force action.In order to adapt to the unique environment in the bridge location,dumb-bell type high pile caps are used on the main tower pier caps of the three large-span cable-stayed bridges to allow the cap top above high tide level.During cap construction,the main body anti-collision structure is integrated with construction cofferdam and the permanent structure is combined with the temporary structure,which not only save materials,but also reduce construction safety risks.The large scale collision protection box cofferdam is manufactured completely in plant and handled wholly to fulfill modular and standardized construction.Innovative technology of concreting without bottom cover is applied in dumb-bell type cap beam construction.

Abstract:Owing to the harsh natural conditions and complex geology at the site of the Pingtan Straits Rail‐cum‐Road Bridge ,the foundations of the bridge were decided to be constructed by the scheme of the construction platforms by the aid of the long trestle so that the construction of the foundations over the sea could be shifted onto the trestle and platforms .In regard of the design dif‐ficulties of the trestle ,the load combination and design principles for the trestle were formulated and the structure of the trestle was hence designed according to the different water depth and geo‐logical conditions .The trestle is totally 7 .49 km long and 8 .5 m wide .In the area of the water depth ≤35 m ,the foundations of the trestle are the steel pipe piles w hile in the area of the 35 m<water depth≤45 m ,the foundations are the structures of the "jackets+ support piles".For the trestle over the area of the water depth ≤18 m ,the span arrangement of the trestle is 9 m+15 m , the superstructure of the part of the trestle is the Bailey truss and the diameters of the steel pipe pipes are 1 .2 m .For the trestle over the area of the water depth >18 m ,the span arrangement of the trestle is 12 m+32 (28) m or 12 m+36 m .The superstructure of the part of the trestle is the T russ No .1 used for the permanent bridge and the diameters of the steel pipe pipes are 1 .5 ,2 and 2 .4 m .To provide solution to the durability of the trestle in the marine environment ,the corrosion protection of the combined sacrificial protection layers of the steel pipe pile walls and the exterior coating of the piles was designed .

Abstract:Beam-string (frame-string) structures have been adopted in several large-span structures in China. However, theoretical analysis of this kind of structures has not been well established. Some problems in the design and construction of beam-string structures are presented and discussed including the pre-stress distribution of each element corresponding to the initial geometry and the simulation of construction process. First, the equilibrium matrix theory is extended to the analysis of hybrid spatial structures composed of beams, bars and cables and a general form of the equilibrium matrix of two-node beam element and bar element is also derived. Using its total equilibrium matrix, a small beam-string structure is analyzed and only one independent self-stress mode is obtained. Secondly, another method, named as local analysis method, is presented where the whole structure is divided into two parts: the upper structure and the lower structure. It can also be used to obtain the initial pre-stress distribution and the zero-state geometry of the upper structure. Numerical examples are given to verify the methods.

Abstract:The main bridge of Caiyuanba Changjiang River Bridge in Chongqing is designed as a hybrid arch bridge composed of rigid-frame structure,basket handle steel box tied arch and steel truss girder.In the construction,the superstructure blocks of the main bridge are lifted and erected with the 4 200 kN cable crane.In this paper,the determination of the basic parameters of the crane and design of each part of the crane components based on the load calculations are described.

Abstract:Single-sided cable-stayed curved-bridge is a type of bridge that is highly expressive for architectural shape.Curved-bridges often constitute cable-stayed bridges with cables.In addition,in order to reduce the mast height and construct more easily,partially cable-stayed bridges can be adopted for large span pedestrian bridges.More proportion of the stiffness is provided by the box girder of the bridge.The box girder and the stay cables work together to form a spatial structural system.The coupling effect of bending-shear-torsion is more complicated.In this paper,related design research was carried out based on a large span partially cable-stayed pedestrian curved-bridge in a city greenway project.The number of the masts and the structural system of the main bridge were optimized.The design of vibration reduction was conducted.This work can provide reference for the relevant engineering practice and research.

Abstract:The non‐navigable span approach bridge of the Pingtan Straits Rail‐cum‐Road Bridge over the shallow water area (the water depth being less than 15 m) is a 48‐m span prestressed con‐crete girder bridge .The foundations for the bridge are the bored piles that were constructed ,using the cofferdams .A cofferdam for the construction of the piles is the steel boxed cofferdam structure that has the plan dimensions of 14 .8 × 23 m and the height of 12 .3 m and in the cofferdam ,two tiers of the internal supports were arranged .Through the calculation of the load cases of anti‐buo‐ying of the cofferdam by pumping out the water and anti‐sinking of the cofferdam after casting the concrete for the pile cap under the condition of base sealing of the cofferdam ,it was determined that the depth of the base sealing concrete for the cofferdam should be 2 m .With reference to the sea condition characteristic of the Pingtan Straits and in thorough consideration of the wave force action and the great tidal difference influence ,the cofferdam was integrally assembled and was in‐tegrally lowered to its designed elevation ,using the jacks after the bored piles were constructed .In the cofferdam ,3 tiers of the guiding and limiting devices were also arranged in order to ensure the safety of the cofferdam at the time the cofferdam was being lowered into the water .After the base for the cofferdam was sealed and the water in the cofferdam was pumped out ,the slinging system of the cofferdam was installed for the second time ,the hangers and slinging corbels were installed again in order to accommodate the construction of the pile cap .The side plates and bottom plate of the cofferdam were connected by pins and the diagonal struts were welded to fix the side plates and bottom plate in order to resist the vibration caused by the wave forces .

Abstract:In this paper, the main types of the superstructure of concrete bridges in China are summarized. It is pointed out that the main defects in the superstructure of concrete bridges in China are penetration of chloride ion, corrosion of steel bar, overlarge deformation, and cracking of main beams or box girders. Based on the various defects existing in different types of bridge superstructures, the causes and mechanisms of these defects are analyzed from the view of design, construction, material, and service conditions. The relevant maintenance and strengthening countermeasures are put forward, such as crack grouting, shotcreting reinforcement, pasting steel reinforcement plates on surface of beam and box girder, pasting carbon fiber or other fiber materials, increasing the cross section of beam and box girder, adding external prestressed tendons, changing the structural system, adding main girders or strengthening lateral connection among main girders, and other strengthening methods. These strengthening methods aim to improve the durability and bearing capacity of bridges, extend service life of bridges, and assure the integral performance of bridges in the whole life cycle.

Abstract:Super-long span bridges demand high design requirements and involve many difficulties when constructed, which is an important indicator to reflect the bridge technical level of a country. Over the past three decades, a large percentage of the new long-span bridges around the world were built in China, and thus, abundant technological innovations and experience have been accumulated during the design and construction. This paper aims to review and summarize the design and construction practices of the superstructure, the substructure, and the steel deck paving of the long-span bridges during the past decades as well as the current operation status of the existing long-span bridges in China. A future perspective was given on the developing trend of high-speed railway bridge, bridge over deep-sea, health monitoring and maintenance, intellectualization, standard system, and information technology, which is expected to guide the development direction for the construction of future super long-span bridges and promote China to become a strong bridge construction country.

Abstract:Based on the deep foundation pit project of the TOD (Transit-Oriented Development) complex of the Shaoxing North High-speed Railway Station, the influence of different construction stages on the deformation and inclination rate of the adjacent elevated bridge and its variation law are studied through field measurement and numerical simulation. The construction process is optimized by the method of reinforcement outside the pit and adjustment of preloaded axial force, and the influence of distance on elevated bridges is summarized. The results show that with the excavation of the foundation pit, the deformation of the bridge pier and bridge pile foundation gradually increases, and the deformation of the bridge piers is larger than that of the bridge pile foundations. As the depth of soil reinforcement outside the pit and the preloaded axial force increases, the maximum vertical displacement of the bridge pier and bridge pile foundations gradually decreases. The deeper the depth of soil reinforcement, the better the displacement control effect on the elevated bridge. In actual construction, it is recommended that the depth of reinforcement be taken as the excavation depth of the pit. It is obvious that the preloaded axial force is subject to the pit angle effect, and the appropriate value of the preloaded axial force should be selected according to the site conditions. The deformation of the bridge pier and bridge pile foundation generally shows a decreasing trend with the increase in the distance between the elevated bridge and the foundation pit. When the elevated bridge is close to the foundation pit, it will be affected by the pit angle effect, and the fluctuation will decrease. The conclusions drawn in the article can serve as the basis and reference for design and construction, and provide reference for similar projects.

Abstract:Dongting Lake Bridge, on the Hangzhou-Ruian highway, also known as the Second Dongting Lake (SDTL) Bridge, is located at the intersection of Dongting Lake and the Yangtze River. It is a large suspension bridge with a total length of 2391 m and investment of 546.53 million USD. At the time of writing, the SDTL Bridge ranks as the eighth largest span bridge in the world, as well as the second largest suspension bridge using steel truss girders. The special plate-truss composite girder was adopted, with a deck composed of an orthotropic steel deck and ultra-high-performance concrete, forming a high-performance composite deck suitable for the steel bridge. The SDTL Bridge also adopted many other new structures and construction technologies, such as a gourd-shaped anchorage foundation, beam segment rigid connections in the unstressed window period and a compound wrapping protection system for the main cable. This paper introduces in detail the structural system and special construction techniques used for this bridge. The wind resistance performance of the suspension bridge is also analyzed. This bridge can provide references for designing and constructing super-span suspension bridges.

Abstract:There are some structural features for continuous fame bridge itself at the construction stage.From the construc- tion practice of Heigou Super-large Bridge in Inner Mongolia,this paper discusses the control method for construction control of continuous prestessed concrete frame bridge.The process of construction was emulated through the determination for finite ele- ment model for the whole bridge,thereby calculating the value of prestressing tendons,the displacement and the stresses at the different stages of construction,with the comparative analysis on the measured results at the field,obtaining the regular pattern of stresses and deflections at the different sections of the box beams under the various loads,the tensioning quality and the margin of stresses,reaching the design requirements and the anticipated goals,realizing real-time monitoring.

Abstract:HuSuTong Yangtze River Bridge is a control project of the newly built HuTong Railway. The structure system is a cable-stayed bridge for highway and railway with a main span of 1092 m. The main girder is a steel truss structure with three main trusses. The upper deck of the highway is an orthotropic steel slab structure and the lower railway deck is a steel box structure. The upper and lower decks bear the force together with the main truss. The stay cables of the bridge are set as a three-cable plane structure. To meet the stress requirements, high strength bridge steel Q500qE and parallel wire stay-cables with a strength of 2000 MPa were developed. In terms of dynamic performance, the wind resistance of the structure is improved by using steel truss girders with good air permeability and setting the transverse wind resistance bearings at the pier towers. The damping and energy dissipation effect of the structure is remarkable by adopting a damping restraint system consisting of dampers and a friction pendulum bearings. In addition, through track geometry analysis and wind–vehicle–track–bridge coupling vibration analysis, a reference for running safety and comfort have been provided.

Abstract:It is difficult for a high-speed railway to locate an orthogonal bridge site so that it has to enlarge its spans as it has large radius,long slope and numerous overpasses.The normal crossing continuous beam may lead to longer bridge lacking sense of beauty due to its higher beam.However,this problem can be overcome by adopting tied arch which may effectively lower the height of the beam and make the bridge look lighter.For this reason,tied arch is favored in selection of high-speed overpass type.The tie-arch bridge,with thrust from the tied arch,is considered as one of rational choices in area where the height of bridge is restricted or the bridge site is geologically unfavorable and large spans are required.Therefore,this paper carries out analysis and research on the structural characteristics and mechanical properties of high-speed railway prestressed concrete tied arch,high-speed railway prestressed concrete-filled steel tube tied arch and high-speed railway steel box tied arch.

Abstract:Completed in 2019, the New Shougang Bridge in Beijing, China is an innovative double-inclined-arch-pylon cable-stayed structure with uniquely curved and twisted steel pylons. The 1354 m long, five-span steel road crossing carries eight lanes of traffic over the Yongding River to the west of the city. This paper describes the use of building information modelling to help design and construct the complex-shaped structure. Three-dimensional visual checks and virtual preassembly were carried out prior to construction, while laser scanning of as-built components was used to check accuracy and deflection.
