Abstract:Digital Light Processing (DLP) 3D printing is a cost-effective and precise technique for producing zirconia ceramics but often hindered by time-consuming debinding processes in practical application. In this study, high solid loading (50vol%) zirconia suspensions containing poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate hydrogel precursor, polyfunctional crosslinkers, and water were formulated for DLP additive manufacturing. Rheological and curing tests demonstrated that the hydrogel-based suspensions with moderate water content are well-suited for DLP 3D printing with delicate design. The debinding and sintering evaluations indict that the formation of hydrogel facilitates binder pyrolysis and promotes inter-particle and inter-layer fusion, enabling high densification (>99.0%) within a 24-hour processing window. Accuracy experiments yielded an average shrinkage rate of 20.9%, a geometric standard deviation of 10µm, and a trivial directional anisotropy. Together, these results confirm that the hydrogel-based DLP 3D printing can produce complex, dense zirconia ceramic parts with high precision and efficiency.
