Abstract:Let a system of differential equations possess a saddle-node periodic orbit such that every orbit in its unstable manifold is homoclinic, i.e. the unstable manifold is a subset of the (global) stable manifold. We study several bifurcation cases where the splitting of such a homoclinic connection causes the Blue Sky Catastrophe, including the onset of complex dynamics. The birth of an invariant torus or a Klein bottle is also described.

Abstract:The dynamics of a class of non-symmetric Lienard equations are discussed.By analyzing the zeros of the Melnikov function,Hopf and homoclinic(heteroclinic) orbit bifurcations and stability are discussed.Furthermore,using Picard-Fuchs equations,it is proved that double limit cycle bifurcations occur between the degenerate Hopf and homoclinic bifurcation points.Moreover,a formula for calculating double limit cycle bifurcation is derived.Finally,the complete bifurcation diagrams and phase portraits are obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, a blue sky catastrophe of limit cycles of a Van der Pol system with fuzzy disturbances is studied by means of the fuzzy generalized cell mapping (FGCM) method. The blue sky catastrophe happens when a fuzzy limit cycle collides with a fuzzy saddle on the basin boundary as the intensity of fuzzy noise reaches a critical value. The fuzzy limit cycle, characterized by its global topology and membership function, suddenly loses stability and disappears into the blue sky after the collision. We illustrate this bifurcation event by considering the Van der Pol system under the multiplicative fuzzy noise. Such a bifurcation is a fuzzy noise-induced effect which cannot be seen in deterministic systems.

I solve this question for a particular Lagrangian Klein bottle. I also discuss some related conjectures.

Abstract:The problem of homoclinic bifurcation is studied for a high dimensional system with nonhyperbolic equilibria. By constructing local coordinate systems near the unperturbed homoclinic orbit, Poincaré maps for the new system are established. Then the persistence of the homoclinic orbit and the bifurcation of the periodic orbit for the system accompanied with pitchfork bifurcation are obtained. Some known results are extended.

Abstract:We propose a high dimensional generalisation of the standard Klein bottle, going beyond those considered previously. We address the problem of generating continuous scalar fields (distributions) and dynamical systems (flows) on such state spaces, which can provide a rich source of examples for future investigations. We consider a class of high dimensional dynamical systems that model distributed information processing within the human cortex, which may be capable of exhibiting some Klein bottle symmetries. We deploy topological data analytic methods in order to analyse their resulting dynamical behaviour, and suggesting future challenges.

Abstract:The standard Klein bottle coefficient in the construction of open descendants is shown to equal the Frobenius-Schur indicator of a conformal field theory. Other consistent Klein bottle projections are shown to correspond to simple currents. These observations enable us to generalize the standard open string construction from C-diagonal parent theories to include non-standard Klein bottles. Using (generalizations of) the Frobenius-Schur indicator we prove positivity and integrality of the resulting open and closed string state multiplicities for standard as well as non-standard Klein bottles.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with dynamic bifurcation from infinity and multiplicity of stationary solutions for nonlinear evolution equations near resonance. First, we prove some new global continuation results and establish a general theorem on dynamic bifurcation from infinity in the framework of local semiflows on metric spaces. Then, by applying these abstract results, we derive more precise descriptions on the dynamic bifurcation from infinity of evolution equations in Banach spaces. Finally, we focus our attention on the parabolic equation $u_t-\Delta u={\lambda} u+f(x,u)$ associated with the Dirichlet boundary condition, where $f$ satisfies the appropriate Landesman--Lazer type condition. A detailed discussion on the dynamical behavior and the multiplicity of stationary solutions of the equation near resonance will be presented.

Abstract:In this note, by using the theory of bifurcation and Lyapunov function, one performs a qualitative analysis on a novel four-dimensional unified hyperchaotic Lorenz-type system (UHLTS), including stability, pitchfork bifurcation, Hopf bifurcation, singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycle, ultimate bound estimation, global exponential attractive set, heteroclinic orbit and so on. Numerical simulations not only are consistent with the results of theoretical analysis, but also illustrate singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycles with distinct geometrical structures and nearby hyperchaotic attractors in the case of small b > 0, i.e. conjugate hyperchaotic Lorenz-type attractors (CHCLTA) and nearby a short-duration transient of singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycles approaching infinity or singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycles consisting of normally hyperbolic saddle-foci and stable node-foci, etc. In particular, by a linear scaling, a possibly new forming mechanism behind the creation of well-known hyperchaotic attractor with (a(1), a(2), c, d, e, f, b, p, q) = (-12, 12, 23, -1, -1, 1, 2.1, -6, -0.2), consisting of occurrence of degenerate pitchfork bifurcation at S-z, the change in the stability index of the saddle at the origin as b crosses the null value, explosion of normally hyperbolic stable node-foci, collapse of singularly degenerate heteroclinic cycles consisting of normally hyperbolic saddle-foci or saddle-nodes, and stable node-foci, is revealed. The findings and results of this paper may provide theoretical support in some future applications, since they improve and complement the known ones.

Abstract:We classify all bifurcation phenomena of the flow near a transcritical singularity in planar singularly perturbed differential systems that do not have a breaking parameter via qualitative analysis and blow‐up technique. Here, the directional blown up vector fields can have several singularities and no first integral that are different from those in the literatures. The obtained local bifurcations are also illustrated by numerical simulations through a modified Leslie–Gower model, whose global dynamics is thereby obtained.

Abstract:Let M be a compact, connected, orientable, irreducible 3-manifold and T' an incompressible torus boundary component of M such that the pair (M,T') is not cabled. By a result of C. Gordon, if S and T are incompressible punctured tori in M with boundary on T' and boundary slopes at distance d, then d is at most 8, and the cases where d=6,7,8 are very few and classified. We give a simplified proof of this result (or rather, of its reduction process), based on an improved estimate for the maximum possible number of mutually parallel negative edges in the graphs of intersection of S and T. We also extend Gordon's result by allowing either S or T to be an essential Klein bottle. to the case where S or T is a punctured essential Klein bottle.
