Abstract:In order to achieve synchronized output voltage of parallel working UPS, the phase lock error analysis of parallel UPS and methods to reduce phase lock error are proposed. The experimental results obtained from two 30kVA parallel working UPS are presented to prove the feasibility and features of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:Because of the parameter differences among units as well as the connection conductor impedances, the equivalent impedance of each UPS (uninterrupeted power system) inverter is different. In paralleled UPS system the DC bus voltage, IGBT conductor voltage and dead time of each UPS inverter also may be different. This difference can cause circulation current and decrease the load-sharing quality of paralleled UPS system. In order to solve the problem, besides the double loop controller of output voltage and inductor current, the output filter inductor current was being used to simulate a virtual resistance. The virtual resistance was added to decrease the influence of DC bus voltage and IGBT conductor voltage difference and dead time mismatch of paralleled UPS system. Virtual resistance could also decrease the influence of the other UPS inverter circulation current on the control precision of the paralleled UPS system. The proposed load-sharing control strategy could improve the current-sharing quality and stability of the paralleled UPS system. Experimental studies using DSP controlled parallel- connected 40 kVA three-phase four-wire UPS system were presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Integrated with the active and reactive power control and the output filter current control, the proposed load-sharing control can improve the current-sharing quality and stability of the paralleled UPS system. Abstract:Among the paralleled UPS control strategies, output droop method and average power control method need to calculate UPS output active and reactive powers accurately for control of the phase (frequency) and amplitude of output voltage. In light or no load conditions, active circulation currents may cause high DC voltages which will damage the machine. This paper suggests using the UPS output filter inductor current instead of the output current when calculating the UPS output active and reactive powers. For improving accuracy of the power calculation, the sampling delay of the inductor current needs to be adjusted. Two digital controlled three-phase four-wire 30 KVA paralleled UPS systems are implemented for experimental verification of the theory analysis. The experimental results show that better current-sharing performance is achieved.

Abstract:This paper deals with the design of good quality output, voltage waveform and excellent power sharing of uninterruptible power system (UPS) inverters with parallel-connection capability. In this sense, the controller is designed by using two nested loops: 1) the inner loop is performed by using the output voltage and inductor current double loop controller, providing a good static and dynamic response of a single UPS. 2) the outer loop calculates the output active and reactive powers and adjusts the output voltage amplitude and phase during the load transients. Integrated with the power control and the output filter current control, the proposed load-sharing control can improve the current-sharing quality and stability of the paralleled UPS system. In order to eliminate the high frequency circulation current around carrier wave frequency, the triangle carrier wave synchronization is used. Experimental studies using two parallel 30 KVA UPS's are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed control.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel Control strategy based on decoupled control scheme to eliminate DC circulation current in the Multi-module paralleled uninterrupted power supply（UPS） system.On the basis of the original paralleled system for load sharing by active and reactive power control,a separate control circuit is added in each paralleled inverter module to eliminate the DC component of output voltage.The voltage between the middle point of inverter half bridge and the middle point of the DC capacitors is measured to accurately detect DC voltage offset of inverter.The difference between the feedback DC voltage and the reference DC component is regulated by proportional-integral controller to obtain the compensating DC voltage component.Therefore the DC voltage component of each inverter output voltage can be regulated to zero by adding the feedback DC voltage component to inverter output voltage reference.This method is based on the idea that DC voltage offset of each inverter is decoupled.In this way,the DC circulation current of paralleled UPS system Can be eliminated by regulating each parallel inverter module＇ DC voltage component to zero.Because each module only regulates its own DC voltage component,the DC circulation current control is decoupled.The experiment in three paralleled 15 kVA three-phase UPS system proves feasibility and reliability of the control strategy.

Abstract:The important characteristics of parallel-connected uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems are excellent power-sharing quality and stability. In this paper we use the output active and reactive power to adjust the output voltage amplitude and phase to achieve the load sharing. Because of the difference of output filter inductor's resistance and distance of connection wire of each machine in the paralleled UPS system, the equivalent output impedance of each UPS inverter is different. These output impedance difference can cause circulation current and decrease the load-sharing quality. In order to solve this problem, virtual resistance is introduced to each inverter. In this paper the influence of the virtual resistance on paralleled UPS system and how to choose the virtual resistance is analyzed. Experimental studies using DSP controlled parallel-connected three-phase four-wire UPS system are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed design.
Novel Method for Detecting Synchronous Phases and Instantaneous Symmetrical Components

Abstract:Under AC power system fault conditions,detecting synchronous phase and instantaneous symmetrical components quickly and accurately is an important part of the control and protection system of voltage source inverter (VSI) based FACTS(Flexible AC Transmission).Consequently,based on the analysis of the working principle of phase lock loop (PLL) and the influence of negative sequence voltage components on the PLL’s detecting performance,a novel integrated method for detecting synchronous phase and instantaneous symmetrical components was proposed. A feed-forward voltage compensating method based on dual synchronous frame was adopted in the method,q axis component of the fundamental positive voltage was used as input of the PLL and the output of PLL was used as reference phase of synchronous frame transform. Moreover,the implementation mechanism of the proposed method was analyzed,and the block diagram of the detecting circuit is given and verified by experimental research. Experimental results show that the proposed method can not only detect synchronous phase and instantaneous symmetrical components accurately under unbalanced source voltage but also eliminate the influence of frequency diversification on detecting synchronous phase and instantaneous symmetrical components.

Abstract:The synchronization of the UPS output and the grid is an important indicator to measure the UPS. An UPS inverter output phase feedback control strategy was studied, which could obtain the grid phase by software phase-locked loop to become the phase reference of the inverter output phase. Then the feedback control was used so that the inverter output phase could track the reference phase precisely. Based on theoretical analysis, a compensation network of output phase feedback control was designed. The control method was verified on the three-level UPS inverter platform, the experimental results show that the inverter output is able to synchronize with the grid through this method.

Abstract:Field experiences have demonstrated that semiconductor devices are vulnerable to failures, which challenges the reliability of power conversion systems. One of the most effective methods to enhance system reliability is fault-tolerant techniques. Presently, the parallel redundant converter approach is considered as one of the most effective fault-tolerant methods. However, there are some issues regarding parallel converter systems, such as surge currents that nonfaulty converters experience after faults, fault-isolation time, and load voltage distortion. To address these issues, this paper investigates the fault analysis and fault-tolerant design regarding parallel inverter systems. The stage analysis for the parallel inverter systems in the case of insulated-gate bipolar transistor short-circuit failures is performed first. Then, the surge current and the corresponding fault-isolation duration are explored. Furthermore, a mathematical model is built to address these two issues, and a fault-tolerant design to suppress surge current is presented. Finally, the experimental results are provided.

Abstract:Under non-linear load with large crest factor current,the total harmonic distortion(THD)of uninterrupti-ble power supply(UPS)inverter output voltage is difficult to meet the regulation requirement. The harmonic suppression method based on dq0 synchronous rotating frame can eliminate the harmonics of specified order, thereby improving the THD of the UPS output voltage.In this paper,the structure of harmonic suppression loop was introduced, with which the harmonic suppression method was applied to a three-phase four-wire UPS inverter; the control equation for the harmonic suppression loop in dq0 synchronous rotating frame was deduced, thus the loop's dynamic model was obtained. On this basis, the structure of the harmonic suppression loop was improved to realize dq axes decoupling at low frequency, and the loop control parameters were also designed. Finally, the validity of the design of harmonic suppression loop was experimentally verified on a three-phase four-wire T-type three-level inverter platform.
A Novel Distributed Control Scheme for the Parallel Operation of Digital Controlled Ups

Abstract:A novel distributed control scheme is proposed for the parallel operation of single phase digital controlled UPS (uninterrupted power supply). In this scheme, all the UPS modules that are interconnected only by two common lines are exactly the same So the real redundancy is achieved. One of the two common lines provides a square wave. Each reference voltage of the paralleled UPS traces the square waveform in order to synchronize the output voltages. The other line is for average output current and current sharing is achieved by average current method. Both the two common lines are low pass lines in order to restrain the possible electromagnetic interference. The theoretic analysis and simulation results show that the gain of current is the main factor that influences the current sharing precision. Experiments are carried out to verify the control method with three 1kVA on-line UPS modules. The results show that the control scheme is simple and feasible and the current sharing is precise in dynamic response and static state.

Abstract:Verifying digital control programs for a complicated power electronic system is usually time consuming. In this paper, a circuit simulation method to verify digital control programs is investigated. This method uses the C block provided by PSIM to integrate digital control program code into the circuit simulation environment. A program module packaging technique is first exploited to guarantee the program code sharing between the circuit simulation and the practical digital controller. Then a software clock is introduced in simulation to emulate the program execution timing sequence in a real digital controller. A simulation platform for UPS program code verification is established. The software code for a UPS rectifier is verified in both the simulation platform and a practical 50kVA UPS system. The high agreement between simulation and experimental results proves the validity of the investigated program verification method.

Abstract:The characteristic of PLL (phased-locked Loop) has very important influence on the performance of UPS (uninterruptible power supply). Sometimes, false phase can be locked by the classical PLL circuit based on detecting the zero crossing points due to the wrong phase information under distorted utility conditions. This paper proposes a novel PLL which implements phase-locked through eliminating the DC component of instantaneous power for three-phase UPS. The proposed PLL system can detect the positive sequence components to realize phase-locked for the fundamental wave voltage of unbalanced utility. The model of PLL has been analyzed. How to determine the parameters of loop filter has been proposed. The system is controlled by 32 bit DSP, TMS320F2812. The good performance of the PLL system for three-phase UPS has been verified by simulation and experimental results.

Abstract:This paper proposes an improved control strategy to eliminate dc circulating current in the paralleled uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems. The active and reactive power control has good performance on restricting ac circulating current. However, it is unable to suppress dc circulating current effectively. Based on conventional active and reactive power control for load sharing in paralleled UPS systems, a dc circulating current suppression loop is introduced to each paralleled inverter module, which is used to eliminate the dc component of output voltage in each paralleled inverter module. The dc circulating current control is decoupled since each inverter module only regulates its own dc component. The proper design of multiloop controller parameters for the dc suppression loop ensures excellent steady-state and dynamic performances. The proposed dc circulating current suppression method is verified by experimental results of a paralleled three-phase UPS inverter system.

Abstract:A 5 kVA on-line digital controlled UPS based on DSP is presented. To improve the steady state operation and dynamic response, a dual-loop control strategy which incorporates the inductor current and the instantaneous output voltage has been used. The system based on Infineon XC164CM DSP that controls the inverter and the system logic operation is introduced. The power part of the UPS consists of Infineon F4-100R06KL4 IGBT module. The experimental result is given and has proved the design is correct.

Abstract:The rapid and accurate phase and symmetrical components detection is essential for the control of Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC). The novel phase locked loop (PLL) in this paper is based on double synchronous reference frames and uses decoupling to cancle out double frequency component. It uses small model platform of Matlab and UPFC to simulate the phase locked synchronization performance under the conditions of severe disturbances of voltage harmonic, three-phase asymmetric short circuit and frequency discontinuity, and compares it with the conventional phase locked loop based on Park transformation. The results of simulation and experimentation both verify the fact that the novel PLL can detect the phase fast and exactly, and has more flexibilty as the phase locked loop of UPFC.

Abstract:A hybrid AC-DC-AC topology for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) is investigated, which is composed of a two level three-phase four-wire rectifier and a three level T-type inverter. It has distinct advantages for the applications of on line UPS. The grid side power quality can be easily satisfied with the front-end two level three-phase rectifier. Since output voltage's THD is challenge to UPS with sever nonlinear load, the T-type inverter is used to enhance the load power quality with higher conversion efficiency. The rectifier is transformed into step-up converter for the battery during the grid faults. The efficiency optimization of the proposed UPS with the hybrid AC-DC-AC topology is studied. The control strategies for the UPS are investigated. At last, the UPS prototype with 200kVA is designed and tested to validate the performance of the proposed UPS.

Abstract:A novel control scheme is proposed for the parallel operation of UPS modules. In this scheme, each UPS in parallel is controlled by a modified deadbeat control method. The traditional deadbeat control has a robust problem to parameter imprecision, which restricts its application. A proportional element is added in the proposed method to solve this problem. The modified deadbeat controlled inverter has good static performance and fast dynamic response and is insensitive to parametric deviation. A distributed control method is used here to realize parallel operation. All the UPS modules are connected by two common lines. One provides a phase signal to synchronize the output voltage. The other one provides the average current signal for the instantaneous average current-sharing control. Experiments are carried out on three 1kVA on-fine UPS modules. The theoretic analysis and experimental results show that the system acts satisfactorily both in steady state and dynamic process. The load distribution among UPS modules is precise in different load conditions, and the real abundance can be achieved.
