Abstract:TiO 2(T), Ti 0.5Zr 0.5O 2(TZ) and Ti 0.25Zr 0.25Al 0.5O 1.75 (TZA) were prepared by co-precipitation. Three monolith catalysts were prepared using MnO 2 and CeO 2 as active components supported on T, TZ and TZA, respectively. The catalysts were characterized, by N 2 adsorption-desorption at low temperature, oxygen storage capacity(OSC), NH 3-TPD and XPS. The low temperature catalytic activities as well as resistance to SO 2 and H 2O in the presence of excessive O 2 were studied. The results indicate that the catalyst of MnO 2-CeO 2/Ti 0.25Zr 0.25Al 0.5O 1.75(TZAC) possesses the largest specific surface area, oxygen storage capacity, pore volume, the most surface acidic amount and the strongest surface acidity, which are important for NH 3-Selective Catalytic Reaction(NH 3-SCR). The results of the activity test show that TZAC has the best catalytic activity at low temperature and quite wide temperature window, the light-off(conversion of 50%) temperature for NO is 102°C, and conversion of NO in the range of 175-325 °C is almost 100%. Further more, TZAC exhibits excellent resistance to SO 2 and H 2O.

Abstract:This study presents the synthesis of a series of FeOx-NbOx mixed oxide catalysts for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO by NH3. By meticulously controlling the Fe/Nb molar ratio, we have rationally tailored the proceeding of the main reaction of NO reduction and the side reaction of NH3 oxidation to NOx. The incorporation of NbOx introduced a significant number of acid sites, which enhanced the adsorption of NH3 on the catalyst surface, particularly at elevated temperatures. Additionally, the oxidative capacity of the catalyst was moderated by the addition of NbOx, hindering the over-oxidation of NH3 to NO or NO2, thus preserving more NH3 to act as a reductant for NO reduction. Consequently, the NbOx-enriched samples exhibited improved deNO(x) performance. However, an excessive amount of NbOx led to a notably weakened oxidative ability, which negatively impacted the activation of reactants and resulted in decreased NO conversion at lower temperatures. The optimized catalyst presented >80 % NO conversion and >95 % N-2 selectivity within a temperature range of 250-400 degrees C. These findings offer valuable insights for the development of new catalysts with an extended operational temperature window.

Abstract:MnOx/CeO2/SiO2 catalysts were prepared by the adsorption phase reaction technique and were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and Raman spectroscopy. HRTEM showed that MnOx and CeO2 particles were uniformly coated on the surface of SiO2. The XRD spectra showed that the intensity of the Mn3O4 diffraction peaks gradually decreased and then completely disappeared with the increasment of the CeO2 content, which indicated that CeO2 reduced the crystallinity of MnOx and improved the dispersibility of MnOx. Raman spectroscopy indicated that Mn ions on the surface of catalysts could enter into the lattice of CeO2, replace oxygen ions, and form oxygen vacancies. With the increasment of CeO2 content, the density of oxygen vacancies initially increased and then decreased. We used the catalysts for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3. The catalytic activity initially increased and then decreased with the increasment of CeO2 content, similar to the change in the density of oxygen vacancies. Thus, the catalytic activity of the MnOx/CeO2/SiO2 catalysts increases with increasing the density of oxygen vacancies.

Abstract:A series of manganese-niobium mixed oxide (Mn–Nb) catalysts were prepared by homogeneous precipitation method and tested for low temperature selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 (NH3-SCR). These catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction, H2-TPR, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, NOx-TPD and NH3-TPD. Among the series of Mn–Nb catalysts, Mn2Nb1Ox calcined at 500°C exhibited the best catalytic activity. MnOx had stronger redox capability than Mn2Nb1Ox, resulting in lower N2 selectivity due to the unselective oxidation of NH3 at relatively high temperatures. The addition of Nb to MnOx enhanced the acidity, especially the Brønsted acidity, which is responsible for the low temperature SCR activity. The combination of MnOx with strong redox capability and NbOx with high acidity simultaneously led to high NOx conversion and N2 selectivity over the Mn2Nb1Ox catalyst.

Abstract:Mn/Ce/Ti and Mn/Ce/Nb/Ti catalysts were synthesized using a precipitation method and their catalytic activities for NO selective reduction with NH3 at low temperatures were evaluated. Nb doping not only improved the activity of the catalyst over a wide temperature range but also restricted the generation of NO2 and N2O. The Mn/Ce/Nb/Ti catalyst displayed 100% NO conversion from 150 to 250 degrees C and > 90% N-2 selectivity below 250 degrees C. The specific surface area of the catalyst was increased and its surface acidity was strengthened after Nb doping. Moreover, Nb doping increased the NO oxidation ability and lowered the NH3 oxidation activity of the catalyst. All the above factors contributed to enhancing the overall NH3-SCR performance of the Mn/Ce/Nb/Ti catalyst compared with that of the Mn/Ce/Ti one. The long-term stability and resistance to H2O and SO2 of the Mn/Ce/Nb/Ti catalyst were also evaluated.

Abstract:BACKGROUND The emission of NOx can causes serious environmental pollution and endangers human health. In recent years, the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 (NH3-SCR) technology has been widely studied and adopted to reduce the production and emissions of NOx during many technologies. RESULTS A series of Mn-Ce-Co-x/Ti-C,N catalysts were prepared by the impregnation method, and low-temperature NH3-SCR was studied. The results show that support modification (Ti-C,N) can broaden the operation temperature window of the catalyst (NO conversion >95%: Mn-Ce/TiO2 catalyst, 160-320 degrees C; Mn-Ce/Ti-C,N catalyst, 140-320 degrees C). The doping of Co further improves the low-temperature NH3-SCR of the catalyst. When n(Co):n(Ti) = 0.05, the catalyst has the best catalytic performance with the NO conversion reaches 100% at 100 degrees C. CONCLUSION Temperature-programmed reduction (H-2-TPR) and temperature-programmed desorption (NH3-TPD) results showed that Ti-C,N can improve the redox ability but reduces the surface acidity. Co-doping has no effect on surface acidity, but the redox ability is further improved. A suitable amount of Co-doping is beneficial to the optimal catalytic activity of Mn-Ce-Co-0.05/Ti-C,N catalyst. This suggests a balance between redox properties and surface acidity. Especially for the strong redox ability, it can promote the oxidation of NO to NO2, and promote low-temperature NH3-SCR through the 'fast SCR' pathway. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results of the highest chemisorbed oxygen (O-alpha) concentration and relative atomic ratio (Mn4+/Mnn+, Ce3+/Cen+ and Co3+/Con+) confirmed the above conclusion. Abstract:BACKGROUND Manganese‐based catalysts were considered the most promising catalysts for low‐temperature selective catalytic reduction (NH3‐SCR) reactions. In this work, a series of Mn3Fe2NbyOx catalysts were synthesized by co‐precipitation method for low‐temperature NH3‐SCR and SO2 tolerance tests. RESULTS The catalysts were characterized by BET, SEM, XRD, XPS, H2‐TPR, and NH3‐TPD. Mn3Fe2Nb0.01Ox exhibited exceptionally high activity with a conversion of almost 100% from 80°C to 240°C, and a NO conversion of more than 75% at 40°C, while the NO conversion at 140°C in the presence of 100 ppm SO2 remained above 90% for 4 h. CONCLUSION According to the characterization results, Nb modification can expand the specific surface area of the catalyst, improve the structure of the catalyst, and make the active components on the catalyst surface more dispersed. Moreover, the Nb‐modified catalyst reduced the content of Mn2+ on the catalyst surface and strengthened the electronic interactions between elements. The synergistic effects among Mn, Fe, and Nb facilitate the formation of more chemically adsorbed oxygen, which enhances the reduction capacity of the catalyst. This facilitates the adsorption of NH3 by the catalyst at low temperatures and promotes the process of low‐temperature NH3‐SCR reaction. More importantly, the Nb‐modified catalyst possessed more weak acid sites, and the higher surface acidity was conducive to the inhibition of SO3 generation, which enhanced the sulfur poisoning resistance of the catalyst. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry (SCI).

The Superior Performance of Nb-modified Cu-Ce-Ti Mixed Oxides for the Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO with NH3 at Low Temperature

Abstract:In this paper, a series of Nb modified Cu-Ce-Ti mixed oxides (NbyCCT) were synthesized using wetness impregnation method for the selective catalytic reduction of NO with ammonia (NH3-SCR). The activity tests indicated that NbyCCT catalysts had shown superior SCR performances. Among which, Nb0.0.5CCT catalyst exhibited a NO conversion of more than 90% within a broad operation temperature window (180-360 degrees C) under the GHSV of 40,000 h(-1). After that, corresponding characterizations were performed to correlate the physical structures and surface properties to catalytic performances. These results revealed that the strong interactions among the active phases induced by Nb addition could not only enhance the redox property of the catalysts but also inhibit the over-oxidation of NH3, which would be beneficial to SCR performance within a wide temperature range and good reaction selectivity. Furthermore, DRIFTS results suggested that the doping of Nb could promote the formation of NO2, thereby enhancing the "fast" SCR reaction process (Langmuir-Hinshelwood reaction pathway). Moreover, the Nb0.05CCT catalyst showed a better sulfur tolerance compared to Nb free catalyst that over 85% NO conversion could be retained after 12 h SCR reaction in the presence of SO2 and H2O.
Promotional role of Nb modification on CuCeOx catalyst for low temperature selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3: A mechanism investigation

Abstract:CuCeOx and CuCeNbOx-k with different Nb doping ratios were obtained by the citric acid method and applied in NH3-SCR process. The activity test results elucidated that the addition of Nb effectively ameliorated the low-temperature SCR performance. Among them, CuCeNbOx-0.4 catalyst had the finest SCR activity (more than 90% in 185–370 °C), highest N2 selectivity, excellent SO2&H2O resistance and thermal stability. Numerous characterization analysis demonstrated that CuCeNbOx-0.4 had the largest specific surface area, the strongest surface acidity and the most excellent redox properties. The conclusions of in situ DRIFT manifested the Nb modification generated more activated species, enhanced the reactivity of ad-NH3 and ad-NOx species, and the SCR reaction on CuCeNbOx-0.4 mainly followed the Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) and Eley-Rideal (E-R) mechanisms. Furthermore, the Nb doping also formed the dual redox cycle (Cu2+ + Nb4+ ↔ Cu+ + Nb5+, Cu2+ + Ce3+ ↔ Cu+ + Ce4+), which facilitated the low-temperature SCR reaction.

Abstract:A series of NbmCu0.1-mCe0.9Ox catalysts were synthesized with the help of citric acid method, and used for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3 (NH3-SCR). The catalytic performance of the NbmCu0.1-mCe0.9Ox samples was greatly improved after the introducing of niobium. Among all catalysts, the Nb0.06Cu0.04Ce0.9Ox catalyst revealed the best low-temperature SCR activity, higher N2 selectivity and extraordinary SO2 and H2O durability with 100% NO conversion at 150-390 degrees C. The various characterization techniques were carried out to investigate the effect of niobium doping on the physical structures, surface properties and NH3-SCR activity of catalysts. Results reveal that the oxidation ability decrease but the acidity is enhanced with the Nb addition. The improved acidity by niobium doping is considered the primary cause for the superior deNOx performance of the Nb0.06Cu0.04Ce0.9Ox catalyst at low temperature, which can offset the negative effects of the reduced oxidation ability on activity. Furthermore, in situ DRIFTS results were applied for the investigation of the reaction process in detail.

Synergistic effect of cobalt and niobium in Co3-Nb-Ox on performance of selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3

Abstract:Combining the redox properties of Co and the acid properties of Nb in a Co3-Nb-Ox catalyst is shown to provide superior performance in the selective catalytic reduction of NO with NH3 (NH3-SCR). Co3O4 shows average activity, however, it exhibits a poor N2 selectivity. Nb2O5 is not active for NH3-SCR. However, the mixed Co3-Nb-Ox catalyst shows higher NO conversion and N2 selectivity than the single Co3O4 and Nb2O5 catalysts at 100–300 °C. The results of temperature programmed reduction by H2 and X-ray photoelectron (XP) spectra indicate that the addition of Nb changes the chemical states of Co and decreases the concentration of Co3+ and Oα, adjusting the activity for catalytic oxidation to a moderate level. This suppresses the formation of undesired N2O from the over-oxidation of NH3. Incorporation of Co and Nb into one solid synergistically couples their redox behavior and surface acidity, ensuring the high catalytic activity and N2 selectivity in NH3-SCR.Graphical Abstract

Low-temperature SCR of NO with NH3 over AC/C Supported Manganese-Based Monolithic Catalysts

Abstract:Metal oxide/active carbon/ceramic (MOx/AC/C) monolithic catalysts were prepared by impregnation method for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 at low-temperature, and they also had been characterized by elemental analysis, N2-BET, XRD, SEM and NO-TPD. The adsorption capability of the monolithic catalyst was greatly enhanced due to the attached active carbon. An ultrasonic treatment was used to improve the impregnation process, and which can increase their catalytic activities. More than 90% NOx conversion could be achieved over the Mn-based monolithic catalysts at low-temperature, and which could be improved further by doping Ce, from 30% to 78% at 100°C. Mn–Fe–Ce and Mn–V–Ce monolithic catalysts had better tolerance to SO2 than Mn or Mn–Ce monolithic catalysts.

Abstract:Developing an efficient catalyst with high intrinsic active sites for selective catalytic reduction of NOx with ammonia (NH3-SCR) at ultra-low temperature flue gas is challenging but desirable. Herein, a Co-doped Mn3O4 catalyst (Co0.04Mn2.96O4) was created by a confinement-pyrolysis-oxidation strategy using bimetallic Co–Mn–MOF–74 as the precursor, which exhibited excellent SCR performance with 96% NO conversion at 130 °C under a GHSV of 100,000 h−1. Benefited from the uniform microstructure of catalyst and combined with characterization and theoretical calculations, an efficient Cotet–O–Mnoct active site is revealed for NH3-SCR, and the formation of oxygen vacancies on Cotet–O–Mnoct site plays a crucial role in the adsorption and activation of reactants, which facilitating the low–temperature NH3-SCR activity. This work provides new insights into the design and synthesis of highly active NH3-SCR catalysts with high intrinsic active sites used at low temperatures.

Abstract:A series of highly dispersed Ni a-x Mn x AlO y catalysts derived from layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were prepared for selective catalytic reduction of NO x with ammonia (NH 3 -SCR) at low temperature. The physicochemical and catalytic performance of the prepared catalysts with different M 2+ /M 3+ molar ratios were systematically investigated by XRD, BET, XPS, TP X (i.e. TPD and TPR) and in situ DRIFTs. Fortunately, Ni 4-x Mn x AlO y as the optimal catalyst exhibited prominent NH 3 -SCR performance with NO x conversion greater than 90% at low temperature range of 120~210 °C. Especially, the influence of H 2 O and SO 2 revealed that the catalyst activity could be miraculously promoted by H 2 O, while deactivated by SO 2. The proper M 2+ /M 3+ molar ratios not only provided the surface acidic sites, the high Mn 4+ content ratio and the adsorbed oxygen of Ni a-x Mn x AlO y catalysts, but also promoted the transformation of NO x intermediate species to more stable bidentate nitrates. Results of the in situ DRIFTs illustrated that the SCR reaction path of Ni a-x Mn x AlO y catalysts followed both E-R and L-H mechanisms, and the former played the dominant role.

Promotional Synergistic Effect of Cu and Nb Doping on a Novel Cu/Ti-Nb Ternary Oxide Catalyst for the Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx with NH3

Abstract:A series of Ti-Nb binary oxide were synthesized by co-precipitation as supports to prepare Cu/Ti-Nb mixed oxide catalysts through wetness impregnation. The novel catalyst 0.8%Cu/Ti2NbOx exhibited an excellent catalytic activity and N-2 selectivity with a broad operation temperature (250-425 degrees C) under a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 177,000 h(-1) for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3. A series of analytical techniques including high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), N-2-physisorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Laser Raman spectra (LRS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), NH3 temperature-programmed desorption (NH3-TPD), H-2 temperature-programmed reduction (H-2-TPR) and in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (in situ DRIFTS) were used to investigate the correlations among catalyst structure, surface properties and catalytic performance. For the support Ti2NbOx, the specific surface area was larger than that of TiO2, promoting the high dispersion of the active component. Also, the surface acid sites were increased by addition of niobium oxide species and the redox capability of the support was enhanced by doping copper species. Moreover, the introduction of copper species effectively enhanced the catalytic performance within 225-400 degrees C. The copper species mainly existed as isolated Cu2+ and non-isolated Cu2+ and the isolated Cue(2+) ions played a significant role in the high NH3-SCR performance over 0.8%Cu/Ti2NbOx catalyst. Hydrothermal aging treatment experiment demonstrated that 0.8%Cu/Ti2NbOx catalyst had an excellent hydrothermal stability. In addition, water vapor or/and SO2 had a slightly reversible inhibition influence on the catalytic performance over 0.8%Cu/Ti2NbOx, indicating that it was a promising candidate for NH3-SCR catalyst in the future practical application. The reaction pathway over 0.8%Cu/Ti2NbOx catalyst followed both Eley-Rideal mechanism and Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism at 225 degrees C. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
A High-Performance Mn/TiO2 Catalyst with a High Solid Content for Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO at Low-Temperatures

Abstract:Mn/TiO2 catalysts with varying solid contents were innovatively prepared by the sol-gel method and were used for selective catalytic reduction of NO at low temperatures using NH3 (NH3-SCR) as the reducing agent. Surprisingly, it was found that as the solid content of the sol increased, the catalytic activity of the developed Mn/TiO2 catalyst gradually increased, showing excellent catalytic performance. Notably, the Mn/TiO2 (50%) catalyst demonstrates outstanding denitration performance, achieving a 96% NO conversion rate at 100 °C under a volume hourly space velocity (VHSV) of 24,000 h-1, while maintaining high N2 selectivity and stability. It was discovered that as the solid content increased, the catalyst's specific surface area (SSA), surface Mn4+ concentration, chemisorbed oxygen, chemisorption of NH3, and catalytic reducibility all improved, thereby enhancing the catalytic efficiency of NH3-SCR in degrading NO. Moreover, NH3 at the Lewis acidic sites and NH4+ at the Bronsted acidic sites of the catalyst were capable of reacting with NO. Conversely, NO and NO2 adsorbed on the catalyst, along with bidentate and monodentate nitrates, were unable to react with NH3 at low temperatures. Consequently, the developed catalyst's low-temperature catalytic reaction mechanism aligns with the E-R mechanism.
Manganese Oxide Catalysts Supported on Zinc Oxide Nanorod Arrays: A New Composite for Selective Catalytic Reduction of NOx with NH3 at Low Temperature

Abstract:In this study, a new composite of low-temperature selective catalytic reduction (LT-SCR) catalyst is synthesized by impregnating MnOx onto ZnO nanorod arrays integrated with cordierite ceramic substrate (MnOx-ZnO/CC), which exhibits improved activities at 100-250 degrees C compared to its analogue that fabricated from TiO2 nanorod arrays (MnOx-TiO2/CC). By optimizing the synthesis conditions, the MnOx-ZnO/CC catalyst obtains a maximum NOx conversion efficiency of 96.8% at 200 degrees C. The introduction of ZnO nanorod arrays not only provides a high surface area, but also results in the formation of amorphous MnOx. A higher content of Mn4+, proper ratio of surface-adsorbed oxygen (O-alpha), and more Lewis acid sites are found on the surface of the MnOx-ZnO/ CC catalyst than that on the MnOx-TiO2/CC counterpart. Additional information about the reaction mechanism is systematically investigated via in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (in situ DRIFTS), the results of which demonstrate that the LT-SCR reactions over the MnOx-ZnO/CC catalyst generally occur between NOx and NH3 species in the adsorption status, following the Langmuir-Hinshelwood pathway. The enhanced activities can be attributed to the generation of abundant NH4NO3 originating from NO2 in the "Fast SCR" route, because the synergistic effect between MnOx and ZnO facilitates the oxidation of NO.

Abstract:A series of Sm–Mn mixed oxide catalysts were prepared via precipitation using various precipitants, namely Na2CO3 (NH4)2CO3, and NH3·H2O, and evaluated for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO x with NH3 at low temperatures. Various characterisation techniques were used to determine the physicochemical properties of the catalysts, and it is found that their catalytic performance is greatly influenced by the nature of the precipitation agent used. It is found that Sm0.1Mn–Na2CO3 and Sm0.1Mn-(NH4)2CO3 exhibit superior catalytic performance in the SCR reaction to that of Sm0.1Mn–NH3·H2O due to an abundance of surface acid sites, high surface concentration of Mn4+, and high NO oxidation capacity. From in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFT) analysis, we conclude that the Sm–Mn catalysts follow both Eley-Rideal and Langmuir–Hinshelwood mechanisms, and that the Eley-Rideal mechanism is dominant at elevated temperatures.
