Abstract:X-ray Differential phase contrast computed tomography (DPC-CT) is a useful tool to image internal structure of tested sample, especially for low-Z materials. The image quality of the DPC-CT slices is highly relevant to the retrieved DPC images. Due to the existence of phase unwrapping errors and phase errors induced by strong scattering materials in DPC images, DPC-CT slices suffers from information loss and severe artifacts. In the present research, iterative phase correction and threshold segmentation method is proposed to eliminate phase unwrapping error in DPC sinogram. Regularized phase retrieval method considering inter-frame noise impact is proposed to reconstruct high quality phase. Iterative reconstruction method with total variation is utilized to mitigate the artifacts caused by strong scattering materials. The proposed method is proved effective to improve the image quality in DPC-CT system.
A Robust Evaluation Method for Motion Distortion of TDICCD Image

Abstract:In the process of remote sensing imaging, the obtained TDICCD images are always accompanied by distortion due to relative motion between imaging platform and the target. Traditional image evaluation metrics like Structural Similarity Index Measurement (SSIM) or Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) are general assessments of image quality, but do not clearly evaluate distortion level. Considering the special properties of TDICCD images, this paper proposes a robust evaluation method to quantitatively describe motion distortion. The proposed method contains mainly three steps: image line PSF estimation, calculation of PSF deviation and overall computation of motion distortion. Numerical experiments have been done to simulate TDICCD motion distortion images under different vibration conditions whose results are later evaluated by the proposed method. Results prove that our method provides precise and robust quantitative assessment for images of different degrees of motion distortion.

Abstract:We study reconstruction methods and imaging properties of the circular and helical interlaced source-detector array (ISDA) computed tomography (CT) system. The system uses carbon nanotube (CNT) based field emission X-ray source arrays and detector arrays. Distributed sources and detectors allow projection data been acquired from different direction by switching on the X-ray sources sequentially, requiring no rotation of gantry or object. Thus the system enables high temporal resolution and eliminates motion artifacts caused by gantry rotation as is common in the conventional CT systems. Interpolation is implemented to patch the absent data in the projection image, and tilted plane Feldkamp type reconstruction algorithm (TPFR) is used to reduce the cone beam artifacts for helical ISDA CT. We analyze the distribution of artifacts in the reconstruction, as well as the influence of the detector array gap and the helix pitch on reconstruction quality. Simulation studies demonstrate that the gap ratio is the key factor on the artifacts due to the gap, and increasing the pitch will reduced gap ratio. Choosing the helix pitch appropriately by getting a balance between cone beam artifacts and gap induced artifacts can get a better reconstruction.

Abstract:Based upon the analysis of the flaws of a kind of CCD-lens coupled digital X-ray imaging systems,improvement of the structure of the system is proposed and devices employed in the system are optimized. Experimental results show that better spatial esolution and inspecting sensitivity are acquired by the improved system.Besides,positive shot noise in the image is reduced,which significantly improves the quality of the image.

Abstract:By the comprehensive analysis of existing mcasuring methods, a new method is proposed in the paper tomeasure the nuclear radiation dose field with array absorption-emission computed tomography. The detector based on scintillation optical fiber array and its servo-control system are designed. The weak optical signal is measured by Charge Coupled Devices (CCD) and the formed visual signal is quickly sampled with the method of testing fixed signed points. The reconstruction method of iterative filter back projection and the data renovation based on noncomplete proection are proposed to reconstruct dase field much more accurately. The filter function is also an important factor in the image reconstruction. The Butterworth filter function is chasen. By adjusting its parameters, we have obtained optimum result. Finally, all the experimentationshow that the methods proposed in paper are proper and whole measuring system is advanced and feasible.
Analysis and measurement of geometrical distortion of computer radiographs

Abstract:Geometric distortion is one of the most important criteria for evaluating computer radiography (CR) imaging quality. A two-step sort order method was developed to calculate the elliptical geometrical distortion in an X-ray image. The method was used to calculate the geometric distortion of CR mammogram images. The measured data was then compared with standard mammograms with the same imaging conditions. Analysis of 56 CR images indicated that the geometrical distortion was less then the geometrical distortion detectable by the human eye. The results demonstrate that CR images are suitable for diagnosis of breast cancer.

Abstract:Amorphous silicon flat-panel detector is the mainstream used in digital radiography (DR) system. In latest years, scintillation screen coupled with CCD DR is becoming more popular in hospital. Compared with traditional amorphous silicon DR, CCD-DR has better spatial resolution and has little radiation damage. It is inexpensive and can be operated easily. In this paper, A kind of CCD based DR system is developed. We describe the construction of the system, the system performances and experiment results.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a wobbling method to correct bad pixels in cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) detectors, using information of related images. We build up an automated device that realizes the wobbling correction for small animal Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging. The wobbling correction method is applied to various constellations of defective pixels. The corrected images are compared with the results of conventional interpolation method, and the correction effectiveness is evaluated quantitatively using the factor of peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity (SSIM). In summary, the proposed wobbling method, equipped with the automatic mechanical system, provides a better image quality for correcting defective pixels, which could be used for all pixelated detectors for molecular imaging.

Abstract:On the basis of DR(Digital Radiography)/CT security inspection system,DR/SSCT(single slice spiral CT) security inspection system was developed.This spiral CT system can improve the CT system's drawbacks.The research work includes in replacing the former data acquisition system by a new system which can acquire projection data of multi-slices and devising the SSCT reconstruction algorithms.Simulation experiments and practical experiments were devised to contrast several algorithms.Interpolation technique was operated in detectors data in order to improve the algorithms.In conclusion,the system exploits an algorithm of weighted average of 360° LI(Linear Interpolation) and JH-HI(Jiang Hsieh-Half scan Interpolation).

Abstract:Although DICOM compliant computed tomography has been prevailing in medical fields nowadays, there are some incompliant ones, from which we could hardly get the raw data and make an apropos interpretation due to the proprietary image format. Under such condition, one usually uses frame grabbers to capture CT images, the results of which could not be freely adjusted by radiologists as the original CT number array could. To alleviate the inflexibility, a new method is presented in this paper to reconstruct the array of CT number from several gray-level images acquired under different window settings. Its feasibility is investigated and a few tips are put forward to correct the errors caused respectively by "Border Effect" and some hardware problems. The accuracy analysis proves it a good substitution for original CT number array acquisition. And this method has already been successfully used in our newly developing PACS and accepted by the radiologists in clinical use.

Abstract:CBCT scanners have been widely used in angiography,radiotherapy guidance,mammography and oral maxillofacial imaging.To cut detector size,reduce manufacturing costs and radiation dose while keeping a reasonable FOV,the flat panel detector can be placed off-center horizontally.This scanning configuration extends the FOV effectively.However,each projection is transversely truncated,bringing errors and artifacts in reconstruction.In this paper,a simple but practical method is proposed for this scanning geometry based on truncation compensation and the modified FDK algorithm.Numerical simulations with jaw phantom were conducted to evaluate the accuracy and practicability of the proposed method.A novel CBCT system for maxillofacial imaging is used for clinical test,which is equipped with an off-center small size flat panel detector.Results show that reconstruction accuracy is acceptable for clinical use,and the image quality appears sufficient for specific diagnostic requirements.It provides a novel solution for clinical CBCT system,in order to reduce radiation dose and manufacturing cost.

Abstract:The design of a X-ray array detector with 0.4mm pixel is described.The array detector is made up of ceramic scintillator Gd2O2 S:Tb coupled to photodiode array,and can be applied in digital X-ray imaging nondestruction inspection systems with the X-ray energy below 100keV.The signal processing of the array detector is described briefly and an image acquired by the detector is presented.

Abstract:In large container inspection systems, the image is constructed by parallel scanning with a one-dimensional detector array with a linac used as the X-ray source. The linear nonuniformity and nonlinearity of multiple detectors and the nonuniform intensity distribution of the X-ray sector beam result in horizontal striations in the scan image. These factors greatly impair the image quality, so the image needs to be corrected. The correction parameters are determined experimentally by scaling the detector responses at multiple points with logarithm interpolation of the results. The horizontal striations are eliminated by modifying the original image data with the correction parameters. This method is proven to be effective and applicable in large container inspection systems.

Abstract:The generation of a digital X-ray image is such a complex process which includes the production, the conversion and the transform of the X-ray information. Generally, the interactions between X-ray and other material include photoelectric absorption and comptom scattering, which have relations to the material's mass, density, equivalently atomic weight and the energy of X-ray. In clinical use, X-ray has a wide spectrum similar to the daylight, so its intensity will become harder and harder with different rate during it penetrates other material. Such nonlinearity and other stochastic noise will make a digital X-ray image has no exact physical means. Due to the physical comparability, we use aluminium and lucite to simulate bone and software respectively, and image them under each kind of material thickness, then we can obtain an ideal image model use part of these data, which can be used to calibrate and linearize the X-ray image. This method will be advantageous to the quantitative analysis of the human's physiological parameters such as the cardiac configuration, the blood flow, and the density of the contrast media in DSA.

Abstract:This paper study softcopy display algorithms of digital radiographic images acquired using a prototype flat panel detector. The processing is manipulated in two steps. Firstly, a look up table is applied to map the gray value of original image into proper visual scope. Then, the mapped image is decomposed into a serial subband images with a multiscale pyramid structure. The contrast of subband images are enhanced by using nolinear functions. Both performance and computational simplicity make our algorithms attractive.

Abstract:In this article, two kinds of THz two-dimension raster scan imaging methods are investigated. An array scanning system, which uses a Pyrocam III camera as the detecting device, and a point-wise scanning system, which adapts a Golay cell as the detector, are designed and tested with imaging experiments. The speed, scale and quality aspects of the two systems are analyzed. The experimental results show the point-wise scanning system has higher contrast and precision performances, with a lower scanning speed, and it could be used to scan detailed small-scale textures. The array scanning system has faster scanning speed, with lower resolution, and it could be deployed for rapid, large-scale scans.
