Abstract:A series of unusual six-ring-fused heterocycles containing indole and quinoline skeletons was successfully synthesized by a copper-catalyzed reaction from 2-arylated indoles. Two new bonds were regioselectively formed from C?H and C?H coupling. 18O-Labelled experiments revealed that the dioxygen is not only the oxidant but also the reactant.

Abstract:A tandem coupling-ketooxygenation reaction of readily accessible enediyne-carboxylic compounds with inner alkynes has been developed that utilizes the PdCl2/CuBr2 catalytic system under an O2 atmosphere and assembles a class of isoindolinones and o-acylbenzoic acids. The two oxygen atoms are regioselectively incorporated into enediyne units at the 1- and 6-positions from atmospheric molecular oxygen and H2O, respectively, during the present process. This study uncovered a formal [4C + 2C] benzannulation-diketonization of enediynes and alkynes via a coupling and decoupling strategy.

Abstract:A novel and efficient copper-catalyzed one-pot synthesis of indoloimidazoquinoline derivatives has been developed. The protocol uses the readily available substituted 2-(2-bromophenyl)-1H-indoles, imidazole and benzoimidazoles as the starting materials, inexpensive CuBr as the catalyst, air as the terminal oxidant, and the procedure underwent a sequential copper-catalyzed intermolecular N-arylation and an aerobic oxidative intramolecular C-H/C-H coupling.

Abstract:Herein, we report a general copper‐catalyzed method for the tunable oxygenative rearrangement of tetrahydrocarbazoles to cyclopentyl‐bearing spiroindolin‐2‐ones and spiroindolin‐3‐ones. The method demonstrates excellent chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, and product control simply by using the H2O and O2 as oxygen source, respectively. This open‐flask method is safe and simple to operate, and no other chemical oxidants are required. Besides, inspired from the unique pathway of 1, 2‐migration rearrangement, a highly controllable hydroxylation of indoles for the construction of C3a‐hydroxyl iminium indolines was also developed. Mechanistic experiments suggest that a single‐electron transfer‐induced oxidation process is responsible for the tunable selectivity control.

Abstract:The Cu(II)-catalyzed electrophilic cyclization reaction between o-hydroxyarylenaminones and 3-diazoindolin-2-imines furnished 3-indolyl-4 H-chromen-4-ones in moderate to good yields with a broad substrate scope. Several pyrido[2,3- b:6,5- b']diindoles and one pyrazino[2,3- b:5,6- b']diindole were also obtained as byproducts in some cases and tested for their photophysical properties. Pyrido[2,3- b:6,5- b']diindoles exhibited solvent-dependent emission, while pyrazino[2,3- b:5,6- b']diindole emitted strong luminescence with 25.6% quantum yield in cyclohexane.
