Abstract:[GRAPHICS] Diaryl ethers have been prepared by direct coupling of phenols including those that bear a strong electron-attracting substituent to electron-deficient aryl halides through SNAr-based addition reactions with assistance of microwave irradiation in high to excellent yields within 5-10 min. No catalysts were required under our conditions.

Abstract:This paper describes the synthesis of diaryl ethers and sulfides by utilizing microwave heating methodology. The methodology is shown to be rapid and efficient for the coupling of phenols or thiophenol with electron-deficient aryl halides through a SNAr reaction. The scope of the protocol can be expanded to six-membered heterocycles bearing a hydroxyl group as well as to the reaction of 2-pyrimidinethiol with mildly activated aryl halides, providing heteroaryl ethers and sulfides, respectively. The advantages of the present method include the wide substrate scope, the obviation of metal catalysts, ease of product isolation, and high purity of products.

Abstract:A hypervalent iodine-reagent-based C-H functionalization strategy was utilized to synthesize diaryl ethers. This method directly transforms various arenes into their corresponding diaryliodonium salts, followed by a C-O coupling reaction to produce structurally diverse diaryl ethers. The efficacy of this approach in the late-stage structural modifications of complex molecules was demonstrated.

Abstract:A microwave-assisted condensation of salicylaldehyde and aryl amines without solvent were efficiently performed to form a series of salicylaldimines in high yields, which were confirmed by IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and elemental analyses. The microwave-assisted condensation provided a convenient environmental-friendship methodology for syntheses of Schiff-base in organic syntheses.

Abstract:Diarylacetates are privileged structures of many bioactive natural products and pharmaceutical compounds. A time‐economical synthesis of diarylacetates by TfOH‐catalyzed arylation of α ‐aryl‐ α ‐diazoesters with arenes is described. This protocol provides a variety of diarylacetates in good yields with broad substrate scope, excellent functional group compatibility, and mild reaction conditions. Also, a new mechanism for the arylation reaction of α ‐aryl‐ α ‐diazoesters with arenes under TfOH catalysis is presented.

Abstract:Diaryl sulfones were synthesised using a variety of Lewis acid catalysts under microwave activation. Catalysts were used both homogeneously and heterogeneously (K10 montmorillonite clay). The most effective catalyst in terms of yield was found to be iron(III) chloride with a yield of 89% supported iron(III) chloride gave a yield of 77%. The highest selectivity to the 4,4' isomer was obtained using Supported bismuth(III) chloride. A series of other diaryl sulfones were synthesised using microwave-assisted Lewis acid catalysis in good yield. The energy used in the reactions was Measured and the quantity of carbon dioxide generated per mole Of product Was compared using microwave and traditional thermal activation (oil bath) methods. Where yields were comparable, microwave-assisted synthesis was shown to produce substantially less carbon dioxide per mole of product. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The IMDA cycloadditions of 10 different ester-tethered 1,3,8-nonatrienes have been examined under controlled microwave heating (MeCN, 180 degrees C, 30 min), giving 90-99% yields, and the stereochemical outcome of the exo and endo adducts established together with X-ray crystal structural analysis. A microwave-assisted tandem Wittig-IMDA cycloaddition protocol has been established for a modular synthesis of the bicyclic lactones starting from alpha-bromoacetates of 2,4-pentadien-1-ols and alpha-oxo carbonyl compounds in the presence of PPh3 and 2,6-lutidine (MeCN, 180 degrees C, 30 min). The overall yields of the tandem reactions are 68-80% and the stereoselectivity of the major adducts formed from E-substituted 1,3,8-nonatriene is the same as that observed for the purified 1,3,8-nonatrienes. Abstract:A sequence of the Ugi four-component reaction (U-4CR) and microwave-assisted intramolecular Ullmann etherification has been established for efficient generation of a dibenz[b,f][1,4]oxazepine scaffold. The U-4CR, using 2-amino phenols and 2-bromobenzoic acids or 2-bromobenzaldehydes as the inputs, was carried out in MeOH at 50-60 degrees C for 2-3 days to form a collection of 22 linear products in 46-90% yields. A microwave-assisted intramolecular Ullmann etherification was then used to transform these acyclic U-4CR products into the cleft shaped 6/7/6-fused tricyclic heterocycles. The intramolecular Ullmann diaryl ether formation was catalyzed by 10 mol % of CuI and 30 mol % of N,N-dimethylglycine hydrochloride (DMG. HCl) in the presence of Cs2CO3 with microwave irradiation (150 degrees C, 30 min) to furnish dibenz[b,f][1,4]oxazepin-11(10H)-ones and dibenz[b,f][1,4]oxazepin-11(10H)-carboxamides in 64-100% yields.
