Abstract:In the above article [1], inaccuracies are present in the naming and corresponding explanation of a concept. Upon careful review and analysis, we have identified inaccuracies in the definition and naming of a specific concept within the article. During the training process, we explored various module optimizations. Unfortunately, due to the similar effects of the two modules, the definition and naming of the concept in the article were inaccurately represented. Specifically, the GhostConv module was incorrectly identified as the AKConv module that had been incorporated. To ensure the accuracy and integrity of our research, all authors unanimously request the necessary corrections to rectify the inaccuracies in the naming and explanation. This correction is crucial for maintaining the precision and completeness of our study.

All You Need Is a Few Shifts: Designing Efficient Convolutional Neural Networks for Image Classification

Abstract:Shift operation is an efficient alternative over depthwise separable convolution. However, it is still bottlenecked by its implementation manner, namely memory movement. To put this direction forward, a new and novel basic component named Sparse Shift Layer (SSL) is introduced in this paper to construct efficient convolutional neural networks. In this family of architectures, the basic block is only composed by 1x1 convolutional layers with only a few shift operations applied to the intermediate feature maps. To make this idea feasible, we introduce shift operation penalty during optimization and further propose a quantization-aware shift learning method to impose the learned displacement more friendly for inference. Extensive ablation studies indicate that only a few shift operations are sufficient to provide spatial information communication. Furthermore, to maximize the role of SSL, we redesign an improved network architecture to Fully Exploit the limited capacity of neural Network (FE-Net). Equipped with SSL, this network can achieve 75.0% top-1 accuracy on ImageNet with only 563M M-Adds. It surpasses other counterparts constructed by depthwise separable convolution and the networks searched by NAS in terms of accuracy and practical speed.

Abstract:The redundancy of Convolutional neural networks not only depends on weights but also depends on inputs. Shuffling is an efficient operation for mixing channel information but the shuffle order is usually pre-defined. To reduce the data-dependent redundancy, we devise a dynamic shuffle module to generate data-dependent permutation matrices for shuffling. Since the dimension of permutation matrix is proportional to the square of the number of input channels, to make the generation process efficiently, we divide the channels into groups and generate two shared small permutation matrices for each group, and utilize Kronecker product and cross group shuffle to obtain the final permutation matrices. To make the generation process learnable, based on theoretical analysis, softmax, orthogonal regularization, and binarization are employed to asymptotically approximate the permutation matrix. Dynamic shuffle adaptively mixes channel information with negligible extra computation and memory occupancy. Experiment results on image classification benchmark datasets CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, Tiny ImageNet and ImageNet have shown that our method significantly increases ShuffleNets' performance. Adding dynamic generated matrix with learnable static matrix, we further propose static-dynamic-shuffle and show that it can serve as a lightweight replacement of ordinary pointwise convolution.
