Abstract:Accurate recognition method of pitaya in natural environment provides technical support for automatic picking. Aiming at the intricate spatial position relationship between pitaya fruits and branches, a pitaya recognition method based on improved YOLOv4 was proposed. GhostNet feature extraction network was used instead of CSPDarkNet53 as the backbone network of YOLOv4. A structure of generating a large number of feature maps through a small amount of calculation was used, and the redundant information in feature layer was obtained with lower computational cost, which can reduce the number of parameters and computation of the model. Coordinate attention was introduced to enhance the extraction of fine-grained feature of targets. An improved combinational convolution module was designed to save computing power and prevent the loss of effective features and improve the recognition accuracy. The Ghost Module was referenced in Yolo Head to improve computing speed and reduce delay. Precision, Recall, F1, AP, detection speed and weight size were selected as performance evaluation indexes of recognition model. 8800 images of pitaya fruit in different environments were used as the dataset, which were randomly divided into the training set, the validation set and the test set according to the ratio of 7:1:2. The research results show that the recognition accuracy of the improved YOLOv4 model for pitaya fruit is 99.23%. Recall, F1 and AP are 95.10%, 98% and 98.94%, respectively. The detection speed is 37.2 frames·s-1, and the weight size is 59.4MB. The improved YOLOv4 recognition algorithm can meet the requirements for the accuracy and the speed of pitaya fruit recognition in natural environment, which will ensure the rapid and accurate operation of the picking robot.

Abstract:In the above article [1], inaccuracies are present in the naming and corresponding explanation of a concept. Upon careful review and analysis, we have identified inaccuracies in the definition and naming of a specific concept within the article. During the training process, we explored various module optimizations. Unfortunately, due to the similar effects of the two modules, the definition and naming of the concept in the article were inaccurately represented. Specifically, the GhostConv module was incorrectly identified as the AKConv module that had been incorporated. Abstract:Visual recognition is the most critical function of a harvesting robot, and the accuracy of the harvesting action is based on the performance of visual recognition. However, unstructured environment, such as severe occlusion, fruits overlap, illumination changes, complex backgrounds, and even heavy fog weather, pose series of serious challenges to the detection accuracy of the recognition algorithm. Hence, this paper proposes an improved YOLO v4 model, called YOLO v4+, to cope with the challenges brought by unstructured environment. The output of each Resblock_body in the backbone is processed using a simple, parameterless attention mechanism for full dimensional refinement of extracted features. Further, in order to alleviate the problem of feature information loss, a multi scale feature fusion module with fusion weight and jump connection structure was pro-posed. In addition, the focal loss function is adopted and the hyperparameters α, γ are adjusted to 0.75 and 2. The experimental results show that the average precision of the YOLO v4+ model is 94.25% and the F1 score is 93%, which is 3.35% and 3% higher than the original YOLO v4 respectively. Compared with several state-of-the-art detection models, YOLO v4+ not only has the highest comprehensive ability, but also has better generalization ability. Selecting the corresponding augmentation method for specific working condition can greatly improve the model detection accuracy. Applying the proposed method to harvesting robots may enhance the applicability and robustness of the robotic system.

Abstract:Pitaya fruit is a significant agricultural commodity in southern China. The traditional method of determining the ripeness of pitaya by humans is inefficient, it is therefore of the utmost importance to utilize precision agriculture and smart farming technologies in order to accurately identify the ripeness of pitaya fruit. In order to achieve rapid recognition of pitaya targets in natural environments, we focus on pitaya maturity as the research object. During the growth process, pitaya undergoes changes in its shape and color, with each stage exhibiting significant characteristics. Therefore, we divided the pitaya into four stages according to different maturity levels, namely Bud, Immature, Semi-mature and Mature, and we have designed a lightweight detection and classification network for recognizing the maturity of pitaya fruit based on the YOLOv8n algorithm, namely GSE-YOLO (GhostConv SPPELAN-EMA-YOLO). The specific methods include replacing the convolutional layer of the backbone network in the YOLOv8n model, incorporating attention mechanisms, modifying the loss function, and implementing data augmentation. Our improved YOLOv8n model achieved a detection and recognition accuracy of 85.2%, a recall rate of 87.3%, an F1 score of 86.23, and an mAP50 of 90.9%, addressing the issue of false or missed detection of pitaya ripeness in intricate environments. The experimental results demonstrate that our enhanced YOLOv8n model has attained a commendable level of accuracy in discerning pitaya ripeness, which has a positive impact on the advancement of precision agriculture and smart farming technologies.

Abstract:The YOLO-B infrared target detection algorithm is proposed to address the problems of incomplete extraction of detailed features and missed and wrong detection of infrared targets by YOLOv5s. The algorithm improves the SPPF of YOLOv5s feature extraction network by proposing the CSPPF structure to increase the sensory field of the model. The Bifusion Neck structure is invoked to fuse the shallow location information with deep semantic information to enhance the feature extraction capability of the model. Taking fully into account the different information of concern for classification and localization, the efficient decoupled head is used as the prediction head of this algorithm, which reduces the latency while maintaining the accuracy. WIoUv3 loss is used as a bounding box regression loss function to reduce the harmful gradient generated by low-quality examples and reduce the competitiveness of high-quality anchor frames. Comparative experiments were conducted for each of the four improvement points, and the experimental results showed that each improvement point had the highest detection accuracy in the comparative experiments of the same category. All improvement points are fused in turn and ablation experiments are performed. The YOLO-B algorithm improves 1.9% in accuracy, 7.3% in recall, 3.8% in map_0.5, and 4.6% in map_0.5:0.95 compared to YOLOv5s. When compared with YOLOv7 and YOLOv8s, the proposed algorithm has better performance in terms of the number of parameters and detection accuracy.

Abstract:It is always challenging for efficiently conducting accurate detection of small and occluded pears in modern orchards. In the past few years, the aforementioned detection tasks remained unsolved though lots of researchers attempted to optimize the adaption of background noise and viewpoints, particularly compliant models suitable for simultaneously detecting small and occluded pears with low computational cost and memory usage. In this paper, we proposed a lightweight and effective object detection network called as SFYOLO based on space-friendly aggregation perception. Specifically, a novel space-friendly attention mechanism was proposed for implementing the aggregate perception of spatial domain and channel domain. Afterwards, an improved space-friendly transformer encoder was put forward for enhancing the ability of information exchange between channels. Finally, the decoupled anchor-free detectors were used as the head to improve the adaptability of the network. The mean Average Precision (mAP) for in-field pears was 93.12% in SFYOLO, which was increased by 2.03% compared with original YOLOv5s. Additional experiments and comparison were carried out considering newly proposed YOLOv6 and YOLOv7 that aimed at optimizing the detection accuracy and speed. Results verified that small and occluded pears could be detected fast and accurately by the competitive SFYOLO network under various viewpoints for further orchard yield estimation and development of pear picking system.

Abstract:Abstract Accuracy and speed have always been a measure of the performance of object detection algorithms. The current algorithms have reduced the detection speed on the basis of increasing a certain accuracy due to their complex structure. In response to this problem, this paper uses the RepVGG network to improve the original YOLOv3 structure, which uses a diversified branch structure to enhance the network feature extraction ability during training and transforms the training model into an equivalent VGG-like topology network model during inference. In addition, we use ASFF to deal with the problem of mutually restricted scales. Experiments show that compared with the original algorithm, the improved algorithm increases mAP by 0.51 on the VOC data set, and at the same time the speed increases by 10%.

Abstract:Aiming at the problem of target recognition of heterogeneous fusion images, the algorithm flow and network structure of the YOLO convolutional neural network model are analyzed and explained based on the deep learning of the convolutional neural network. Combining the characteristics of the fusion image, the interface, structure and parameters of the YOLOv3 convolutional neural network are improved and adjusted while the recognition effect is guaranteed, the YOLO model is streamlined, and the training is successfully implemented and the training weights are output. The algorithm is effective and stable, and the recognition speed is faster.

Abstract:In a densely planted orchard, factors such as light variation, branch occlusion, and fruit in non-picking rows had a great impact on the pitaya detection accuracy. In this study, a new WGB-YOLO network was developed and tested for multi-class pitaya fruits detection in target picking rows. The proposed WFE-C4 module was obtained by adding two wings feature enhancement structure based on Bottleneck and cascading MetaAconC functions, which independently enhanced feature extraction from the channel and spatial dimensions. A backbone network with WFE-C4 to replace YOLOv3′s Darknet53 was constructed. The proposed GF-SPP used average pooling and global average pooling instead of 2 maximum pooling in SPP, and the global average pooling features were used as independent channels to strengthen the average and maximum pooling features respectively, which simultaneously achieved multi-scale fusion of features and feature enhancement. The new WGB-YOLO network used a Bi-FPN structured head network to achieve a balanced fusion of multi-scale features. The tests showed that the mAP of multi-lass pitaya in the target picking rows was 86.0% using WGB-YOLO detection, while the AP of NO, FCC, and OB fruit were 96.0%, 84.4%, and 77.6%, respectively. WGB-YOLO improved the AP of the original model for detecting OB fruits by 10.5%, which indicated a significant improvement in model detection performance. Compared with 8 other deep networks such as YOLOv7, WGB-YOLO obtained the highest mAP for detecting multi-class pitaya while maintaining a better detection speed. WGB-YOLO showed good performance in detecting pitaya in densely pitaya planted orchards, which provided a technical foundation for fruit detection in robotic picking of the target rows.

Abstract:Classical YOLOv4 object detector transcends some famous object detectors in speed and accuracy. However, despite its superior performance, it still has some limitations such as the insufficient for extracting the feature. Therefore, we propose an improved YOLOv4 method for object detection in this paper. Specifically, we introduce a dilated coordinate attention module for improving the accuracy of object detection, which combine the dilated convolutional neural network with coordinate attention. At the same time, the multi-scale training strategy is also introduced to enhance the performance of object detection via using the training data with different scales. Experiments on PASCAL VOC2007 and VOC2012 datasets demonstrate that our proposed improved YOLOv4 object detector is superior to other state of the art object detection detector. Specially, its performance is better than the traditional YOLOv4, which is 1.84% and 1.91% higher on the mean average precision (mAP) for the two datasets, respectively.
