Abstract:The super luminescent diode light source is commonly used in Fiber-optic gyroscope. The wavelength temperature stability is one of its key parameters. In this work, simulation model of temperature field of the SLD light source is established, and the temperature distribution of SLD internal structure is simulated and researched. A temperature compensation scheme is designed according to the simulation result and experiment is done to confirm the specific parameter of compensation circuit. Then the designed compensation scheme is used in temperature control circuit of SLD, and the performance of compensated SLD light source is tested. An improvement of 62% is demonstrated compared with uncompensated SLD.

Abstract:A high sensitivity optical fibre temperature sensor is demonstrated based on a balloon-shaped bent single-mode (BSBS) fibre structure where the fibre retains its original protective polymer coating. The BSBS fibre structure can be simply realized by bending a coated straight single-mode fibre into the balloon shape using a section of silica capillary tube. By adjusting the bending radius of the balloon-shaped fibre section, a modal interferometer between the core mode and the coating mode can be effectively implemented at a suitable bending radius. Considering the intrinsically high thermo-optical coefficient and thermal expansion coefficient of the polymer coating, the BSBS fibre structure offers excellent temperature sensing performance. Experimental results show that the temperature sensitivity is as high as -2465 pm degrees C-1 with a resolution of 0.008 degrees C over the temperature range of 20.7 degrees C-31.7 degrees C. Based on its simple fabrication process, very low cost, and experimentally determined high sensitivity coupled with good repeatability, the temperature sensor described in this article could be a competitive candidate in many temperature sensing applications.

Abstract:The sapphire fibre thermometer probe with doped Cr3+ ion tip end was produced by laser heated pedestal method, and a thermometer system based on its fluorescent decay was presented. A phase-locked detection method was used to check the fluorescence lifetime. Among the detection ranging from the room temperature to 450 ℃, the thermometer has an average temperature resolution of 1 ℃. The system had the advantages of high accuracy, very high temperature resolution, good dynamic response and immunity to the electro-magnetic interference. So it may be used in microwave treatment and thermal monitoring of medium voltage substations.

Abstract:Based on the rare earth fluorescence material, a set of fluorescence optical fiber thermometric system was designed. The system selected the emitting LED, which was economical and practical as light source with the rare earth material Y2O2S: Eu+Fe2O3 as the sensitive material. A set of fluorescence signal measurement device can complete the fluorescence lifetime measurement. Making use of the characteristic that the fluorescence has the same period as exciting lights, which lags in phase to it, the system voice can be effectively made out of the signals and the signal-to-noise ratio can be advanced through the measurement of the weak fluorescence signal. Finally, the experiment of the optical spectrum to several sensitive materials confirms the match that Y2O2S:Eu+Fe2O3 is with light source and the feasibility of the system. The signal-to-noise ratio can be advanced through the measurement of the weak fluorescence signal measurement. The spectrum experiment has proved that the intensity of Y2O2S:Eu+ Fe2O3 is a quantitative level higher than Y2O2S:Eu. Among the detection rang from the room temperature to 450°C, the thermometer has an average temperature solution of 0.5°C.

Abstract:The tip of a piece of plastic fiber was dyed with thymol blue to form a temperature probe. The fiber optic sensor was calibrated on a heatboard by comparison with a K-type thermal couple. Fluorescence characteristics including fluorescence intensity, emission bandwidth, peak & barycenter wavelengths, and self-referenced intensity ratio were used to carry the information of environment temperature. Accordingly, more than five temperature sensing functions were retrieved from the fluorescent sensor. Among such functions, the emission band barycenter showed premium precision. Temperature-driven shift of the emission band barycenter has a sensitivity of 0.095 nm/K, with a nonlinearity of 2.2%FS, resolution of 4 K and repeatability of 1.8%FS. The sensor can find its applications in wearable devices and radiofrequency ablation. Finally in a verification experiment, the sensor was used to monitor the temperature of a microwave oven chamber in real time.

Abstract:A novel sapphire fiber thermometer using fluorescent decay is presented. The thermal probe is simply a sapphire fiber grown from the laser heated pedestal growth (LHPG) method, with its end doped with Cr3+ ion. The sapphire fiber is coupled with a normal Y-shape silica fiber bundle for signal transmission. Signal processing system for the fluorescent lifetime detection is set up. Relationship of the fluorescent lifetime and intensity with the temperature for the doped sapphire fiber is carefully measured and presented. The thermometer has good thermal response characteristics due to its specific thermal probe structure. The coupling efficiency between the fiber probe and the guiding fiber bundle is also high and stable. Experimental result shows that the thermometer has an average temperature resolution of 1°C between 20 and 450°C.

Abstract:A new designed sapphire fiber-optic sensor, aiming to improve the performance of the traditional sapphire fiber-optic sensor for high temperature measurement, is provided in this paper, in this system, an additional U-shaped sapphire fiber is used together with a modulated LED reference signal. It has advantages of both high sensibility of the single-band type and the high stability of the dual-band system. It is a good method to improve the stability of the traditional radiation based sapphire fiber-optic sensors without sacrificing high sensibility.

Abstract:A sapphire fiber is curved to form a small V-shaped sensor head, a modulated LED reference signal is launched into the sensing fiber, the sensor obtains the temperature information by the ratio of the radiation and the reference signal, eliminates unstable factors of the optical system. Both theoretical analysis and experimental results show that it is a good method to retain the high stability of the dual-band system without sacrificing the high sensibility of the single-band system. Abstract:The fluorescence fiber temperature measurement system was proposed.Using the double light paths and double channels measurement,the micro fluorescence probe was made by the chemical conversion coating technique and heat treatment process combination.The wavelet transform was used to eliminate the noise in the fluorescence signal.The results show that this system has higher precision and resolution by the temperature experiment,the verification experimental and the repetitive experiment.

Abstract:A sapphire fiber thermometer for high temperature measurement is described. The mechanism of the fluorescence temperature measurement is based on the basic physical phenomenon of photoluminescence. The so-called photoluminescence essentially is the superthermal radiation luminescence when some materials are stimulated by ultraviolet, visible or a certain form of the infrared electromagnetic radiation. The fluorescence lifespan and fluorescence strength of all fluorescence materials will imply some temperature correlation within some homologous temperatures. It uses a specially grown sapphire fiber as thermometer probe. The end part of the sapphire fiber is doped with Cr3+ion by means of the laser heat pedestal growth (LHPG) method and coated with some high radiant material to constitute a mini fiber cavity. The fluorescence thermal probe offers the advantages of a compact structure, a high performance and the ability to withstand high temperatures in detection. According to the surface temperature, we can obtain the inner temperature by the temperature field. It can be used to measure the steel fluid of the tundish in continuous cast steel machines. An experimental system of the thermometer and the preliminary experimental results are presented.

Abstract:The YAG(Y3Al5O12) fiber-optic thermometer probe with Cr3+ ion doped tip end was grown from the laser heated pedestal growth method,and a thermometer system based on its fluorescent decay was presented.A phase-locked detection method was used to check the fluorescence lifetime.In the range from 0 ℃ to 180 ℃,the measurement resolution achievable due to signal processing scheme is 0.4 ℃.Compared with other phase-sensitive detection techniques,phase-locked detection results in a significant improvement in the measurement accuracy,a high noise-suppression ability.Because of its good dynamic response and immunity to electro-magnetic interference,it may be used in microwave treatment and thermal monitoring of medium voltage substations.

Abstract:Sapphire optical fiber thermal probe with end Cr3+ ions doped is grown by laser heated pedestal growth method.This fluorescence thermal probe offers advantages of one body compact constructs.The fluorescence temperature dependence of the probe is investigated.Experimental results indicate that the fluorescence lifetime of Cr3+∶Al2O3 single crystal optical fiber decreases smoothly and monotonically from 4.0 ms at 0 ℃ to 0.2 ms at 450 ℃.With the fluorescence thermal probe,a fiber thermometer range from 0～450 ℃ is constructed.The thermometer applies 405 nm UV LED as excited light source and phase-locked detector for fluorescence lifetime online measurement.

Abstract:A practically applicable optical fiber thermometer was designed and tested, based on the detection of the decay of the fluorescence in a miniature Tm3+:YAG crystal, directly coupled to a silica transmission fiber and excited by light from a periodically modulated 785nm laser diode. This work represents a novel development from prior work using silica fibers or other doped crystals and addresses effectively a wide temperature range. The modulation period was varied proportionally to the fluorescence lifetime of the crystal and was used to enable the fluorescence decay rate to be determined, and thus the probe temperature. In the system design, a phased-locked-detection (PLD) scheme was used to process the fluorescence signal and a background radiation compensation circuit was included to prevent the saturation of the signal amplifier at high temperature. Calibration of the system was carried out from room temperature to 800°C and long-term tests have shown that the fiber thermometer could work over in a satisfactory way the temperature range from room temperature to 800°C. Details of the probe construction and the results of tests and evaluation are presented.

Abstract:A novel, to our knowledge, sapphire-fiber thermometer ranging from 20 degrees to 1800 degrees C is presented that combines the radiance detection and the fluorescent lifetime detection schemes into one system. The thermal probe is a sapphire fiber grown from the laser-heated pedestal growth method. Its end part is doped with Cr3+ ion and coated with some radiance material to constitute a minifiber cavity. The sapphire fiber is coupled with a Y-shaped silica fiber bundle for signal transmission. Radiance and fluorescence signal processing schemes are also set up within one thermometer system. ii sandwich two-band p-i-n detector is used that may respond to both the radiation and the fluorescence. Preliminary experimental results show that the thermometer is suitable for practical application with potential long-term stability and a high-temperature resolution. Abstract:The paper introduces a new software compensation method based on multisensor to solve the temperature effect on optical fiber displacement sensors. In this method, the output of different displacement sensors are processed by using the data fusion theory and the temperature effect on optical fiber displacement sensor is basically overcome. The method dispenses with added temperature sensor, merely making use of two different outputs of optical fiber displacement sensor, thus providing a practicable approach for optical fiber sensor's practicality. The experimentation shows that coefficient of temperature sensitivity of the optical fiber displacement sensor is reduced remarkably. Abstract:A temperature compensation method is proposed to solve the ranging precision decrease problem of the frequency-modulated continuous wave distance measurement system. The set of phases spread frequency sampling method is used to correct the beat frequency signal non-linearity. The influence model of temperature on the optical fiber auxiliary interferometer is studied. The experimental results show that distance measurement error decreases from 0.3432 mm to 0.02260 mm, and the mean measurement standard deviation decreases from 0.1088 mm to 0.01733 mm on a maximum measurement range of 1.6 m after compensation.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a novel optical fiber fluorescent temperature sensor based on photonic crystal fiber(PCF) and its theory of forward stimulated fluorescence emission in PCF. It is realized by liquid filling in hollow-core PCF, the liquid is of higher temperature coefficient of refractive index than that of silicon, and is mixed with fluorescent material. Stimulating light and fluorescence propagating in the fiber are in the same direction. Because the band gaps of PCF are modulated by temperature, besides the sensitivity of fluorescence, the stimulating light passing through the photonic crystal fiber is also sensitive to temperature. Experiment results and theory modulation show that when PCF length is shorter than an optimum length, stimulating light in fiber will increase and fluorescence will decline gradually with the increase of temperature.

Abstract:To improve the sensitivity measurement of temperature sensors, a fiber optic temperature sensor structure based on the harmonic Vernier effect with two parallel fiber Sagnac interferometers (FSIs) is designed, and theoretical analysis and experimental testing are conducted. The FSI consisting of two polarization maintaining fibers (PMFs) with lengths of 13.62 m and 15.05 m respectively is used to achieve the basic Vernier effect. Then by changing the length of one PMF to approximately i times that of the others, the FSI composed of two PMFs of 7.1 m and 15.05 m is used to achieve the first-order harmonic Vernier effect. Afterward, temperature sensing tests are conducted to observe the wavelength drift during temperature changes and ultimately achieve high sensitivity. The experimental results show that the temperature sensitivity of the sensor based on the first-order harmonic Vernier effect is −28.89 nm/°C, which is 17.09 times that of a single FSI structure (−1.69 nm/°C) and 1.84 times that of the sensitivity generated by the structure based on the basic Vernier effect (−15.69 nm/°C). The experimental results are consistent with the theoretical analysis. The structure proposed in this paper achieves drift measurement of 0.1 °C variation based on 1 °C drift, making the fiber optic temperature sensor applicable to related fields that require high precision temperature. The proposed temperature sensor has the simple structure, low production cost, high sensitivity, and broad application prospects.

Abstract:To facilitate temperature detection in industrial production settings, an optical fiber temperature transmitter was developed utilizing fluorescence lifetime as its basis. Comprising an upper computer, fiber optic temperature transmitter, and optical fiber probe, the system incorporates a scalable fluorescence detection module. Real‐time temperature calculation is achieved through a microcontroller based on the fluorescence lifetime, with results transmitted to the upper computer, the optical fiber sensor exhibits a resolution of 0.01°C and an accuracy of ±0.3°C.
