Abstract:Aggregate micro fines (AMF) were usually included in the machine-made sand during the stone breaking process. Different AMF contents could be included in different batchs of machine-made sand, and thus causing different concrete properties, like the volume stability. In order to explore the influence of AMF contents in machine-made sand on volume stability of concrete in plastic stage, the single factor method was used to control the AMF content by mass replacing machine-made sand, and the effects of AMF on concrete bleeding rates, shrinkage in plastic stage and cracking (average cracking area, number of cracks, time of first crack and crack density) of concretes with different w/c (0.30, 0.45, 0.60) in the plastic stage were investigated. The results show that, with the increase of the AMF content, the bleeding rate decreased continuously in all mixes, the plastic shrinkage and crack density showed a trend of decreasing first and then increasing. The existence of optimum contents of AMF in different concretes were discussed from the influence of AMF on the bleeding channels, density, pore structure and pore pressure of concrete. The suitable contents of AMF in concretes with the w/c of 0.30, 0.45 and 0.60 are 5 10 and 10%, respectively. Concretes with the optimum AMF contents showed the best volume stability compared to those with more or less AMF.
