Abstract:It is significant to investigate the electromechanical properties of second-generation high-temperature superconducting (HTS) coated conductors (CCs). Generally, a four-probe method, with which voltage taps are soldered on the sample, is used to measure the critical current during tension. However, shear stress occurs at the position near the voltage solder joints when the HTS CCs are tensioned, which can only withstand the shear stress of less than 10 MPa and induce reversible strain less than that without solder joints. In this article, a critical current measurement method in which the voltage taps are not soldered on the surface of the HTS CCs is proposed to avoid the effect of voltage solder joints on HTS CCs. The minimum distance between the insulator and the voltage taps is 6 cm when the HTS CC and the voltage taps are soldered on a Cu plate, through which the reliable measurement results of the strain dependence of critical current and irreversible strain of the HTS CCs are obtained.
