Abstract:An alternative route has been developed for the construction of multisubstituted pyrrole derivatives from readily available, doubly activated cyclopropanes and anilines using an iron-mediated oxidation domino reaction (i.e., sequential ring-opening, cyclization, and dehydrogenation reactions). This reaction uses readily available reactants and is tolerant of a broad range of substrates, with the desired products being formed in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:An efficient and Brønsted acid free one-pot protocol to directly generate structurally sophisticated α-formylpyrrole derivatives in moderate to good yields has been demonstrated, involving an iron-mediated domino oxidation/formylation reaction of readily available 2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroles in dimethyl sulfoxide and air atmosphere, in which dimethyl sulfoxide acts as the formyl donor. A possible mechanism is presented.

Abstract:A new method for the synthesis of di- and trisubstituted pyrroles via copper-catalyzed cyclization of ethyl allenoates with activated isocyanides has been developed. In contrast to related annulation reactions previously reported, this new process features a skeletal rearrangement in which the aryl sulfonyl moiety, which functions as the electron-withdrawing group in the -carbon of the isocyanide, was found to migrate to the -carbon of the starting allenoate in the final product for the first time.

Abstract:A short and facile synthesis of a series of 1,2-dihydroquiazolin-4(3H)-ones was accomplished in good yields via the novel reductive cyclisation of o-nitrobenzamides with aldehydes or ketones promoted by the TiCl4/Sm system. Structures were established on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, H-1 NMR and confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The advantages of our method are easily accessible starting materials, convenient manipulation and moderate to high yields.

Abstract:We describe an unprecedented Pd(OCOCF3)(2)-catalyzed cascade process for the synthesis of highly functionalized 1,2,3,5-tetra-substituted pyrroles with high efficiency. Unlike documented methods relying on preformed enamines and active halogenated terminal alkenes, the process employs simple 2-alkenal-dicarbonyls and primary amines in 'one-pot'.

Abstract:Pyridinium 1,4-zwitterionic thiolates were applied to a formal [3+2] annulation reaction with modified activated alkynes, affording various tetrasubstituted thiophenes with aryl, alkenyl, alkyl or silyl group at the special position. The structural modification of alkyne substrates enabled the synthesis of diverse thiophenes to be achieved using the pyridinium 1,4-zwitterionic thiolates as the sulfur-containing build-ing blocks. This approach is metal-free and catalyst-free.

Abstract:An efficient and regioselective synthesis of highly substituted 2-trifluoromethyl pyrrole derivatives via silver-catalyzed cyclization of vinyl azides with ethyl 4,4,4-trifluoro-3-oxobutanoate is reported. Various α-(heteo)aryl, alkyl, β-aryl, as well as α,β-disubstituted vinyl azides, participate in this transformation. Abstract:A simple, modular method to prepare highly substituted pyridines is disclosed. The method employs a cascade reaction comprising (1) a novel N-iminative, Cu-catalyzed cross-coupling of alkenylboronic acids at the N-O bond of alpha,beta-unsaturated ketoxime O-pentafluorobenzoates, (2) electrocyclization of the resulting 3-azatriene, and (3) air oxidation affording highly substituted pyridines in moderate to excellent isolated yields (43-91%). Starting materials are readily available, and functional group tolerance is very good.
