Abstract:A novel tandem one-pot method for the synthesis of polysubstituted pyridine derivatives has been developed via Knoevenagel-type reaction and subsequent 675 electrocyclization of the Blaise reaction intermediates and 3-formylchromones. Abstract:A rapid and highly efficient 1,3‐dipolar [3 + 2] cycloaddition of nonstabilized azomethine ylides generated in situ with benzo[b]thiophene 1,1‐dioxides as the dipolarophiles has been developed. The efficient method affords tricyclic pyrrolidine‐fused benzo[b]thiophene 1,1‐dioxide derivatives in high to excellent yields (up to 99%) with excellent diastereoselectivities (up to >25:1 dr) under mild reaction conditions. The structure of a typical product was confirmed by X‐ray crystallography.

Abstract:A short and facile synthesis of a series of 1,2-dihydroquiazolin-4(3H)-ones was accomplished in good yields via the novel reductive cyclisation of o-nitrobenzamides with aldehydes or ketones promoted by the TiCl4/Sm system. Structures were established on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, H-1 NMR and confirmed by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The advantages of our method are easily accessible starting materials, convenient manipulation and moderate to high yields.

Abstract:An alternative route has been developed for the construction of multisubstituted pyrrole derivatives from readily available, doubly activated cyclopropanes and anilines using an iron-mediated oxidation domino reaction (i.e., sequential ring-opening, cyclization, and dehydrogenation reactions). This reaction uses readily available reactants and is tolerant of a broad range of substrates, with the desired products being formed in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:A three-component reaction of one molecule of imine and two molecules of alkynoates is realized with the catalysis of Cu(I)–Fe(III) in a sequential manner to allow the direct synthesis of functionalized pyrroles, during which, one C–N bond and two C–C bonds are formed with high atom economy. Abstract:[4 + 1] Cycloaddition of alpha,beta-unsaturated imidoyl cyanide (2-cyano-1-azadienes) with isocyanides in the presence of a catalytic amount of AlCl(3) afforded polysubstituted 2-amino-5-cyanopyrroles in good to excellent yields. In combination with the IBX/TBAB-mediated oxidative Strecker reaction, this important heterocycle is readily synthesized in two steps from simple starting materials.

Abstract:We describe an unprecedented Pd(OCOCF3)(2)-catalyzed cascade process for the synthesis of highly functionalized 1,2,3,5-tetra-substituted pyrroles with high efficiency. Unlike documented methods relying on preformed enamines and active halogenated terminal alkenes, the process employs simple 2-alkenal-dicarbonyls and primary amines in 'one-pot'.

Abstract:A novel and practical protocol for the synthesis of fully substituted pyrazoles from pyridinium 1,4-zwitterionic thiolates and hydrazonoyl chlorides in excellent yields under mild conditions is described. The transformation proceeds via an unusual [[3 + 3] - 1] pathway, which involves a formal [3 + 3] cascade cyclization followed by a spontaneous ring-contraction/sulfur extrusion reaction from 4H-1,3,4-thiadiazine intermediates.

Abstract:A new method for the synthesis of di- and trisubstituted pyrroles via copper-catalyzed cyclization of ethyl allenoates with activated isocyanides has been developed. In contrast to related annulation reactions previously reported, this new process features a skeletal rearrangement in which the aryl sulfonyl moiety, which functions as the electron-withdrawing group in the -carbon of the isocyanide, was found to migrate to the -carbon of the starting allenoate in the final product for the first time.

Abstract:An unprecedented cascade strategy, used in conjunction with a redox isomerization, for the synthesis of 3-allyl pyrroles is reported. In a single step, readily accessible simple starting materials are transformed into highly substituted pyrroles with high efficiency. The products obtained contain allyl substituents, which can be readily elaborated to other useful functional groups.
