Abstract:Copper-catalyzed arylcarbocyclization reaction of alkynes was realized with diaryliodonium salts through C-C bond formation on an inert C(sp3)-H bond. This method provides an efficient cyclization of alkyl alkynes to generate carbocycles with good step-economy. Theoretical study revealed an interesting Cu-catalyzed concerted pathway of the C-C bond formation.

Abstract:Diaryliodonium Salts. Our research interest focusing on synthetic methodology with diaryliodonium salts, is summarized in this account. Besides employing a dual activation strategy of C−I and ortho C−H bonds, we have introduced vicinal functional groups at ortho‐positions of diaryliodonium salts, in which their unique reactivities have been explored in various processes, including arylation, diarylation, cascade annulation, benzocyclization, arylocyclization, and intramolecular aryl migration. The variety of mechanisms of these reactions that involves either transition metals, especially palladium in organometallic catalysis, or transition‐metal free conditions, were discussed in the context. Abstract:A novel cascade reaction involving thia-Fries and aza-Claisen rearrangements has been developed using meta-trifluoromethanesulfonate-substituted diaryliodonium salts, featuring the generation of aryne intermediates. In contrast to previously reported methods that achieve trisubstitution on a single aryne ring, our approach enables 1,2,2'-trisubstitution across two distinct aromatic rings of diarylamines. The reaction efficiently forms C-N, C-S, and C-C bonds at adjacent positions on each aromatic ring in a sequential manner.

Abstract:Electrophilic cyclization reactions are one of the most useful strategies for the construction of various cyclic compounds and significant progress has been made in the electrophilic cyclizations triggered by diaryliodonium salts. In these new types of electrophilic cyclization reactions, diaryliodonium salts can not only act as arylation reagents to initiate arylation-cyclization reactions giving aryl-substituted compounds, but also to be involved in the benzocyclization to give benzocycles.

Abstract:The C-C bond formation reaction represents a fundamental and important transformation in synthetic chemistry, and exploring new types of C-C bond formation reactions is recognized as appealing, yet challenging. Herein, we disclose the first example of rhodium-catalyzed dealkenylative arylation of alkenes with arylboronic compounds, thereby providing an unconventional access to bi(hetero)aryls with excellent chemoselectivity. In this method, C(aryl)-C(alkenyl) and C(alkenyl)-C(alkenyl) bonds in various alkenes and 1,3-dienes can be cleaved via a hydrometalation and followed by β-carbon elimination pathway for Suzuki-Miyaura reactions. Furthermore, a series of novel organic fluorescent molecules with excellent photophysical properties has been efficiently constructed with this protocol.
