Abstract:With rapid development of intelligent system, artificial intelligent application and internet of things, there is a great demand for gas sensors with fast response and low power consumption. Past efforts using nanotechnology and two-dimensional materials could not break the bottle net limit of response time of millisecond range. The limit is reached in our cross-stacked nanojunction gas sensor with microwatt power consumption that is proposed and fabricated in this study. The sensor is formed by two cross-stacked platinum coated WO3 nanorods and works relying on the nanojunction at the cross point. The device shows a very fast response of 80 ms at the operating temperature of 110 degrees C to pure H-2, and exhibits a lower power consumption of < 6 mu W at the operating temperature of 30 degrees C, at which the device has the capability of detection of low concentration H-2, down to 10 ppm. An electronic dynamic model and underlying mechanisms are presented not only explaining the observed results but also giving guidance to making of best devices.
