Abstract:Phytochemical reinvestigation on Ligularia nelumbifolia afforded four novel sinapyl alcohol analogues named nelumols B-E (1-4) and three known sinapyl alcohol derivatives (5-7). Their structures were elucidated by NMR techniques. Total syntheses of cytotoxic geranyloxy sinapyl alcohol (6) and geranyloxy sinapyl aldehyde (7) were carried out via two different paths. The 4-O-benzyl-substituted analogues (20 and 27) as well as the 4-O-(2-methylbutenyl) derivatives (34 and 35) were also synthesized. The cytotoxicities of 6 and 7 were measured using A-549, HL-60, and KB cancer cell lines.

Abstract:Total synthesis of two cytotoxic natural products, nelumol A (1) and nelumal A (2), were carried out by two different paths. 4-O-Benzyl substitute analogues 26 and 27, as well as the 4-O-(2-methyl-butenyl) derivatives 29 and 30 were also synthesized for a SAR investigation. 1 and 2 were also measured on different tumor cell line.

Abstract:Four new tetrahydrofuran lignans, schpropinrins A-D ( 1–4 ), together with five known ones, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra propinqua var. sinensis . Their structures, including absolute configurations, were characterized by means of spectroscopic analysis and ECD calculation. Compounds 1–4 featured a ketal or hemiketal substructure at C-7 and all of the isolates were tested for their anti-HIV integrase activity.

Abstract:Five new dibenzocyclooctadiene lignans, schisphenlignans A-E (1-5), together with eight known ones, were isolated from the stems of Schisandra sphenanthera. The structures of 1-5 were elucidated based on the analysis of their NMR, MS and circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Some isolates were tested for their acute activities on insulin sensitivity in 3T3-L1 differentiated adipocytes, but none of them showed significant bioactivity with 10 mu M administration of the tested compounds.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To investigate the chemical constituents of the roots and rhizomes of Ligularia macrophylla.METHODS The compounds were isolated through repeated column chromatography on silica gel, polyamide, RP-18 and Sephadex LH-20. And the structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data (UV, IR, MS, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT and 2D NMR). RESULTS Four flavonol glycosides and two monoterpene glycosides were obtained and determined as rhamnazin-3-O-β-D-rutinoside ( 1 ), rhamnetin-3-O-β-D-rutinoside ( 2), rutin ( 3), afzelin ( 4), betulalbuside A (5) and 3,7-dimethyloct-1 -en-3,8-diol8-O-β-D- glucopyranoside (6). CONCLUSION All the compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time.

The structures of the new constituents were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and shown to be 1beta, 10beta-epoxy-6beta(2'-hydroxymethylacryloyloxy)-8beta-hydroxy-eremophila-7(11)-en-12,8alpha-olide ( 1) and 1beta, 10beta-epoxy-6beta-(2'-hydroxymethylacryloyloxy)-8beta-ethoxy-eremophila-7(11)-en-12,8alpha-olide ( 2).

Abstract:Six new lignans (1-6), as well as five known ones (7-11) were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra chinensis. The structures of 1-6 were established on the basis of spectroscopic methods including 1D-and 2D-NMR techniques and CD experiments. Compound 1 was the first example of naturally occurring N-containing lignans featuring a nicotinoyl group. All the new compounds were evaluated for their anti-HIV-1 activities and showed EC50 values in the range 17.89-138.23 mu g/mL.

Abstract:Two patients suffering from severe lithium poisoning (blood level > 4 mmol/litre) were treated by haemodialysis. Both patients developed delayed respiratory failure, with the characteristics of adult respiratory distress syndrome, at a time when lithium levels had fallen below 2 mmol/litre. We recommend early respiratory support in the treatment of severe lithium intoxication.

Abstract:Two new 18-norschiartane-type schinortriterpenoids, namely wuwezidilactones Q (1) and R (2) were isolated from the stems of Schisandra lancifolia. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis.
