Abstract:In this paper, the generalized anti-reflexive solution for matrix equations (B X = C, X D = E), which arise in left and right inverse eigenpairs problem, is considered.With the special properties of generalized anti-reflexive matrices, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability and a general expression of the solution are obtained.Furthermore, the related optimal approximation problem to a given matrix over the solution set is solved.In addition, the algorithm and the example to obtain the unique optimal approximation solution are given.

Abstract:In this paper, the solvability conditions for the matrix equation A X B = D and a pair of matrix equations A X = C , X B = D with the constraint X * X = I p are deduced by applying the spectral and singular value decompositions of matrices, and the expressions of the general solutions to these matrix equations are also provided. Furthermore, the associated optimal approximate problems to the given matrices are discussed and the optimal approximate solutions are derived. Finally, two numerical experiments are given to validate the accuracy of the results.

Abstract:Stationary splitting iterative methods for solving <math>AXB=C</math> are considered in this paper. The main tool to derive our new method is the induced splitting of a given nonsingular matrix <math>A=M−N</math> by a matrix <math>H</math> such that <math>(I−H)−1</math> exists. Convergence properties of the proposed method are discussed and numerical experiments are presented to illustrate its computational efficiency and the effectiveness of some preconditioned variants. In particular, for certain surface fitting applications our method is much more efficient than the progressive iterative approximation (PIA), a conventional iterative method often used in computer aided geometric design (CAGD).

Abstract:The matrix equations AX = B , XC = D with the constraint PX = sXP are considered, where P is a given Hermitian matrix satisfying P 2 = I and s = ± 1 . Using an eigenvalue decomposition of P , the constrained problem can be equivalently transformed to two independent (unconstrained) problems of matrix equations in similar forms, and hence the constrained problem can be solved in terms of the eigenvectors of P . In this paper, a simple and eigenvector-free formula of the general solutions to the constrained problem is presented using Moore–Penrose generalized inverses of the coefficient matrices A and C . A similar problem of the matrix equations with generalized constraint is discussed, too. We also consider the least-norm solution of the constrained problems.

Abstract:In this paper, several Kaczmarz-type numerical methods for solving the matrix equation $AX=B$ and $XA=C$ are proposed, where the coefficient matrix $A$ may be full rank or rank deficient. These methods are iterative methods without matrix multiplication. Theoretically, the convergence of these methods is proved. The numerical results show that these methods are more efficient than iterative methods involving matrix multiplication for high-dimensional matrices.

Abstract:Given A epsilon R-mxn, B epsilon R-nxs, C epsilon R-mxk, D epsilon R-kxs and E epsilon R-mxs, the least squares mixed-restriction solution of matrix equation AXB + CYD = E is studied by using Moore-Penrose generalized inverse and Kronecker product, and its expression is given in this article. Based on this, the expression of the least squares mixed-restriction solution is deprived with the least norm, the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the mixed-restriction solution and its expression are also presented.

Abstract:In this paper, based on an optimization problem, a sketch-and-project method for solving the linear matrix equation AXB = C is proposed. We provide a thorough convergence analysis for the new method and derive a lower bound on the convergence rate and some convergence conditions including the case that the coefficient matrix is rank deficient. By varying three parameters in the new method and convergence theorems, the new method recovers an array of well-known algorithms and their convergence results. Meanwhile, with the use of Gaussian sampling, we can obtain the Gaussian global randomized Kaczmarz (GaussGRK) method which shows some advantages in solving the matrix equation AXB = C. Finally, numerical experiments are given to illustrate the effectiveness of recovered methods.

Abstract:Dual generalized commutative quaternions have broad application prospects in many fields. Additionally, the matrix equation AXB=C has important applications in mathematics and engineering, especially in control systems, economics, computer science, and other disciplines. However, research on the matrix equation AXB=C over the dual generalized commutative quaternions remains relatively insufficient. In this paper, we derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of the dual generalized commutative quaternion matrix equation AXB=C. Furthermore, we provide the general solution expression for this matrix equation, when it is solvable. Finally, a numerical algorithm and an example are provided to confirm the reliability of the main conclusions.

Abstract:For a given p×q complex matrix C , a necessary and sufficient condition is obtained for the existence of a matrix X satisfying JpX−XJq=C , here Jr denotes the r×r Jordan block of 0. An easy construction of the solution X is given if it exists. These results lead to a proof of the fact that a nilpotent matrix is similar to a direct sum of Jordan blocks.

Abstract:An elegant property of the maximal solution to the matrix equation X+ATX-1A=I is presented.The property shows that the maximal solution is well-conditioned.Two new iteration methods for finding the maximal solution are proposed.Of these two methods,one is a linearly convergent iteration without matrix inversion,and one is related to Newton's method and quadratically convergent.The convergence analysis is also given.Comparisons have been made with other known methods.In all test problems the new quadratically convergent method appeared to be far superior to the other methods.

Abstract:A randomized block Kaczmarz method and a randomized extended block Kaczmarz method are proposed for solving the matrix equation AXB=C, where the matrices A and B may be full-rank or rank-deficient. These methods are iterative methods without matrix multiplication, and are especially suitable for solving large-scale matrix equations. It is theoretically proved that these methods converge to the solution or least-square solution of the matrix equation. The numerical results show that these methods are more efficient than the existing algorithms for high-dimensional matrix equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we discussed the unique solvability of the two absolute value matrix equations. The unique solvability condition $\rho (\vert A^{-1} B \vert)<1$ is provided for the generalized absolute value matrix equation (GAVME) $AX + B \vert X \vert = F$. This condition is superior to that of Kumar et al. [J. Numer. Anal. Approx. Theory, 51(1) (2022) 83-87]. We also discussed different conditions for the unique solvability of the new generalized absolute value matrix equation (NGAVME) $AX+B\vert CX \vert=F$ with $A, B, C, F, X \in \mathcal{R}^{n \times n}$. We also provided the corrected version of Corollary 2.1 from the published work by Wang et al. [Appl. Math. Lett., 116 (2021) 106966].
