Abstract:Let P be a monic polynomial of degree d, and JP be the Julia set of P. We obtain the d~n-th Chebyshev polynomials on the Julia set J_P and on the equipotential curves Γ_P(R) of J_P, and give an example to show that they are not always equal.

Abstract:It is shown that the d(n)th Chebyshev polynomials oil the Julia set J(P), and on the equipotential curve Gamma(P)(R), of the polynomial P(z) = z(d) - c, are identical and exactly equal to the nth iteration of P(z) itself. As an application, the capacity of the Julia set J(P) is deduced, a result that was first obtained by Brolin.

Abstract:A new approach for the representation of 3D general Julia sets is put forward on the basis of tri-dimensional polynomial maps. The condition for a 3D polynomial map to be equivariant is theoretically analyzed and proved. The equations of two classes of 3D polynomial maps that are equivariant with respect to the rotational symmetries of either a regular tetrahedron group or a regular octahedron group are strictly given, on the basis of which the properties of the general Julia sets created by these 3D polynomial maps are discussed and proved. A ray-tracing volume rendering algorithm, which defines the color and opacity of every discrete point within a Julia set according to its escaping distance, is proposed in order to acquire high quality 3D fractal images. Experimental results demonstrate that the approach of generating 3D Julia sets from 3D polynomial maps not only enables us to predict the characteristics of Julia sets according to the properties of the maps, but also makes it possible for us to obtain various kinds of Julia sets with different rotational symmetries by altering the parameters of the maps. Consequently, drawbacks such as monotone structure of the resulting fractals and inability to predict fractal shape in the existing methods for generating 3D fractal sets can be effectually avoided. Furthermore, the method of generating 3D Julia sets by 3D polynomial maps can be applied to the construction of other 3D fractals, and hence would result in a different perspective for the generation of 3D fractals.

Abstract:Inspired by the study of 3D fractals based on quadratic polynomial maps,1 this paper presents a novel approach for generating 3D Julia sets by utilizing a family of switching polynomial maps in order to further enrich the form of 3D fractals. Rotational symmetries in the structures of resulting Julia sets with different switching parameters are theoretically analyzed and proved. Experimental results obtained from various parameters and coefficients in the switching maps are provided and discussed in detail. It is hoped that the investigations conducted in this paper can bring on new perspectives for the generalization of 3D fractals.

Abstract:Let $p$ be a normalized (monic and centered) quartic polynomial with non-trivial symmetry groups. It is already known that if $p$ is unicritical, with only two distinct roots with the same multiplicity or having a root at the origin then the Julia set of its Chebyshev's method $C_p$ is connected and symmetry groups of $p$ and $C_p$ coincide~[Nayak, T., and Pal, S., Symmetry and dynamics of Chebyshev's method, \cite{Sym-and-dyn}]. Every other quartic polynomial is shown to be of the form $p_a (z)=(z^2 -1)(z^2-a)$ where $a \in \mathbb{C}\setminus \{-1,0,1\}$. Some dynamical aspects of the Chebyshev's method $C_a$ of $p_a$ are investigated in this article for all real $a$. It is proved that all the extraneous fixed points of $C _a$ are repelling which gives that there is no invariant Siegel disk for $C_a$. It is also shown that there is no Herman ring in the Fatou set of $C_a$. For positive $a$, it is proved that at least two immediate basins of $C_a$ corresponding to the roots of $p_a$ are unbounded and simply connected. For negative $a$, it is however proved that all the four immediate basins of $C_a$ corresponding to the roots of $p_a$ are unbounded and those corresponding to $\pm i\sqrt{|a|}$ are simply connected.

Abstract:This paper has two parts. In the first one we study the maximum number of zeros of a function of the form f (k)K (k) + g (k) E (k), where k is an element of (-1,1), f and g are polynomials, and K (k) = integral(0)(pi/ 2) dtheta/root1-k(2) sin(2) theta and E(k) = integral(0)(pi/2) root1-k(2) sin(2) thetadtheta are the complete normal elliptic integrals of the first and second kinds, respectively. In the second part we apply the first one to obtain an upper bound for the number of limit cycles which appear from a small polynomial perturbation of the planar isochronous differential equation (z)over dot = iz + z(3), where z = x + iy is an element of C.

Abstract:Using the language of Riordan arrays, we study a one-parameter family of orthogonal polynomials that we call the restricted Chebyshev-Boubaker polynomials. We characterize these polynomials in terms of the three term recurrences that they satisfy, and we study certain central sequences defined by their coefficient arrays. We give an integral representation for their moments, and we show that the Hankel transforms of these moments have a simple form. We show that the (sequence) Hankel transform of the row sums of the corresponding moment matrix is defined by a family of polynomials closely related to the Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind, and that these row sums are in fact the moments of another family of orthogonal polynomials.

Abstract:We consider sequences of compositions of quadratic polynomials $f_{c_n} (z) = z^2 + c_n$. For such sequences one can naturally generalize the definitions of the Julia set and basin of infinity from the autonomous case. In this setting the Julia set depends on a sequence $\omega = (c_0, c_1, ...)$. We study the equilibrium (harmonic) measure on such Julia sets. In particular, we calculate the Hausdorff dimension of the equilibrium measure and study its dependence on the ''scale of randomness''.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a practical method to compute the Jacobian matrices of generalized Chebyshev polynomials associated to arbitrary semisimple Lie algebras. The entries of each Jacobian matrix can be expressed as a linear combination of characters of irreducible representations of the underlying Lie algebra with integer coefficients. These integer coefficients can be obtained by basic computations in the fundamental Weyl chamber.

Abstract:Chebyshev varieties are algebraic varieties parametrized by Chebyshev polynomials or their multivariate generalizations. We determine the dimension, degree, singular locus and defining equations of these varieties. We explain how they play the role of toric varieties in sparse polynomial root finding, when monomials are replaced by Chebyshev polynomials. We present numerical root finding algorithms that exploit our results.

Abstract:Recently, $(\beta,\gamma)$-Chebyshev functions, as well as the corresponding zeros, have been introduced as a generalization of classical Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind and related roots. They consist of a family of orthogonal functions on a subset of $[-1,1]$, which indeed satisfies a three-term recurrence formula. In this paper we present further properties, which are proven to comply with various results about classical orthogonal polynomials. In addition, we prove a conjecture concerning the Lebesgue constant's behavior related to the roots of $(\beta,\gamma)$-Chebyshev functions in the corresponding orthogonality interval.
