Abstract:The algorithm of hybrid approximation is a useful method for polynomial approximation of rational polynomial.However,the convergence is not assured in applying hybrid polynomial approximation sometimes.So,it is important to study the convergence conditions.With the help of previous work,this paper investigates the affection of reparametrization on the convergence condition for the hybrid polynomial approximation.Under some assumptions of the control point weights,some general sufficient conditions for which hybrid polynomial approximation converge to the rational Bezier curves after reparametrization are derived.

Abstract:We firstly construct generalized Baskakov operators Vn,α,q(f;x) and their truncated sum Bn,α,q(f;γn,x). Secondly, we study the pointwise convergence and the uniform convergence of the operators Vn,α,q(f;x), respectively, and estimate that the rate of convergence by the operators Vn,α,q(f;x) is 1/nq/2. Finally, we study the convergence by the truncated operators Bn,α,q(f;γn,x) and state that the finite truncated sum Bn,α,q(f;γn,x) can replace the operators Vn,α,q(f;x) in the computational point of view provided that limn→∞nγn=∞.

Abstract:Inexact proximal point methods are extended to find singular points for multivalued vector fields on Hadamard manifolds. Convergence criteria are established under some mild conditions. In particular, in the case of proximal point algorithm, that is, ε _n=0 for each n , our results improve sharply the corresponding results in Li et al. ( 2009 ). Applications to optimization problems, variational inequality problems and gradient methods are also given.
Quasi-interpolators with application to postprocessing in finite element methods

Abstract:We design quasi-interpolation operators based on piecewise polynomial weight functions of degree less than or equal to $p$ that map into the space of continuous piecewise polynomials of degree less than or equal to $p+1$. We show that the operators have optimal approximation properties, i.e., of order $p+2$. This can be exploited to enhance the accuracy of finite element approximations provided that they are sufficiently close to the orthogonal projection of the exact solution on the space of piecewise polynomials of degree less than or equal to $p$. Such a condition is met by various numerical schemes, e.g., mixed finite element methods and discontinuous Petrov--Galerkin methods. Contrary to well-established postprocessing techniques which also require this or a similar closeness property, our proposed method delivers a conforming postprocessed solution that does not rely on discrete approximations of derivatives nor local versions of the underlying PDE. In addition, we introduce a second family of quasi-interpolation operators that are based on piecewise constant weight functions, which can be used, e.g., to postprocess solutions of hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin methods. Another application of our proposed operators is the definition of projection operators bounded in Sobolev spaces with negative indices. Numerical examples demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

We prove his Conjecture 1, that is, we construct convergent iterative sequences for with an arbitrary initial point, where with m ≥ 2. Abstract:The notions of Lipschitz conditions with L average are introduced to the study of convergence analysis of Gauss–Newton’s method for singular systems of equations. Unified convergence criteria ensuring the convergence of Gauss–Newton’s method for one kind of singular systems of equations with constant rank derivatives are established and unified estimates of radii of convergence balls are also obtained. Applications to some special cases such as the Kantorovich type conditions, γ-conditions and the Smale point estimate theory are provided and some important known results are extended and/or improved.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain two interpolation theorems on convex-set valued Lebesgue spaces, which generalize the Marcinkiewicz interpolation theorem and Riesz-Thorin interpolation theorem on classical Lebesgue spaces, respectively. As applications, we obtain the boundedness of convex-set valued fractional averaging operators and fractional maximal operators, and prove the reverse factorization property of matrix weights.

Abstract:This paper investigates the convergence condition :br the polynomial approximation of rational functions and rational curves. The main result, based on a hybrid expression of rational functions (or curves), is that two-point Hermite interpolation converges if all eigenvalue moduli of a certain r x r matrix are less than 2, where r is the degree of the rational function (or curve), and where the elements of the matrix are expressions involving only the denominator polynomial coefficients (weights) of the rational function (or curve). As a corollary for the special case of r = 1, a necessary and sufficient condition for convergence is also obtained which only involves the roots of the denominator of the rational function and which is shown to be superior to the condition obtained by rite traditional remainder theory for polynomial interpolation. For the low degree cases (r = 1, 2, and 3), concrete conditions are derived. Application to rational Bernstein-Bezier curves is discussed. (C) 1997 Academic Press.

Abstract:In this paper, the compactness of quasi-conforming element spaces and the—convergence of quasi-conforming element method are discussed. The well-known Rellich compactness theorem is generalized to the sequences of quasi-conforming element spaces with certain properties, and the generalized Poincare inequality. The generalized Friedrichs inequality and the generalized inequality of Poincare-Friedrichs are proved true for them. The error estimates are also given. It is shown that the quasi-conforming element method is convergent if the quasi-conforming element spaces have the approximability and the strong continuity, and satisfy the rank condition of element and pass the test IPT. As practical examples, 6-parameter, 9-paramenter, 12-paramenter, 15-parameter, 18-parameter and 21-paramenter quasi-conforming elements are shown to be convergent, and their L2′2(Ω)-errors are O(hτ), O(hτ), O(h τ 2 ), O(h τ 2 ), O(h τ ′ ), and O(h τ 4 ) respectively.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a rigorous analysis of root-exponential convergence of Hermite approximations, including projection and interpolation methods, for functions that are analytic in an infinite strip containing the real axis and satisfy certain restrictions on the asymptotic behavior at infinity within this strip. Asymptotically sharp error bounds in the weighted and maximum norms are derived. The key ingredients of our analysis are some remarkable contour integral representations for the Hermite coefficients and the remainder of Hermite spectral interpolations. Further extensions to Gauss--Hermite quadrature, Hermite spectral differentiations, generalized Hermite spectral approximations and the scaling factor of Hermite approximation are also discussed. Numerical experiments confirm our theoretical results.

Abstract:This article investigates the convergence properties of Grunwald-type operators defined using the Lagrange interpolation operator. In $C[0, \pi]$, we establish sufficient conditions under which alternate grid point selection yields a convergence result. Employing a quantitative approach grounded in the modulus of continuity, we derive a theorem that provides insightful estimates for the convergence of Grunwald operator, accompanied by illustrative numerical examples. Addressing challenges related to continuity, we extend the operator to $L^1(\mathbb{R})$ and prove similar convergence results. Notably, the new operator demonstrates a uniform order of convergence on a dense subspace of $L^1(\mathbb{R})$. Moreover, it has a better convergence rate than Grunwald operator. We establish the non positivity of the Lagrange interpolation operator and, consequently, the constructed operators. Significant emphasis is placed on D.E. Wulbert theorem ($1968$), which is a Korovkin-type theorem that can be applied to non-positive operators. We extend this theorem to a broader class of operators, enabling its effective application to the constructed operators. This article, overall, highlights the broad applicability of Lagrange interpolation across diverse disciplines.

Abstract:We demonstrate that the almost everywhere convergence of the planar Bochner-Riesz means for $L^p$ functions in the optimal range when $5/3\leq p\leq 2$. This is achieved by establishing a sharp $L^{5/3}$ estimate for a maximal operator closely associated with the Bochner-Riesz multiplier operator. The estimate depends on a novel refined $L^2$ estimate, which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:The Gerchberg-Papoulis (G-P) algorithm is a widely applied iterative method for the extrapolation of band-limited signals. When the observed data are corrupted with noise, the G-P algorithm is not convergent any more because the corresponding linear operator is not contractive under the L~2 norm. This phenomenon is also illustrated with numerical simulation. We propose an improved Gerchberg-Papoulis(IG-P) algorithm and study its convergence properties. It is proved that the IG-P algorithm is convergent under the L~2 norm. Numerical stimulation is provided to demonstrate that the convergence and signal resolving power of I-GP are better than those of the original G-P algorithm when the data are corrupted with noise.

Abstract:Polynomial and spline quasi-interpolants (QIs) are practical and effective approximation operators. Among their remarkable properties, let us cite for example: good shape properties, easy computation and evaluation (no linear system to solve), uniform boundedness independently of the degree (polynomials) or of the partition (splines), good approximation order. We shall emphasize new results on various types of univariate and multivariate polynomial or spline QIs, depending on the nature of coefficient functionals, which can be differential, discrete or integral. We shall also present some applications of QIs to numerical methods.
