Abstract:If the immediate basin of infinity of a polynomial P(z) contains at least one of its critical points, then there is a self-similar measure on its Julia set, and if all the critical points of P(z) lie in the immediate basin of infinity, then the self-similar measure is unique.

Abstract:The existence and uniqueness of the self-similar measure on the Julia set of single rational function are discussed. A self-similar measure is constructed on the Julia set of the random iteration of rational functions, which shows that under certain conditions the measure is unique and non-atomic; moreover its support is exactly equal to that of the Julia set. Finally some applications of the self-similiar measures to condensed matter physics and statistical physics are given.

Abstract:We study the quasisymmetric geometry of the Julia sets of McMullen maps fλ(z) = zm + λ/zℓ, where λ ∈ ℂ {0} and ℓ and m are positive integers satisfying 1/ℓ+1/m < 1. If the free critical points of fλ are escaped to the infinity, we prove that the Julia set Jλ of fλ is quasisymmetrically equivalent to either a standard Cantor set, a standard Cantor set of circles or a round Sierpiński carpet (which is also standard in some sense). If the free critical points are not escaped, we give a suffcient condition on λ such that Jλ is a Sierpiński carpet and prove that most of them are quasisymmetrically equivalent to some round carpets. In particular, there exist infinitely renormalizable rational maps whose Julia sets are quasisymmetrically equivalent to the round carpets.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the rational maps F_λ (z) = z^n + λ /z^n ,n ⩾ 2 with the positive real parameter λ . It is shown that the immediately attracting basin B λ of ∞ for F λ is always a Jordan domain if the Julia set of F λ is not a Cantor set. Furthermore, B λ is a quasidisk if there is no parabolic fixed point on the boundary of B λ . It is also shown that if the Julia set of F λ is connected, then it is locally connected and all Fatou components are Jordan domains. Finally, a complete description to the problem when the Julia set is a Sierpiński curve is given.

Abstract:By means of a nested sequence of some critical pieces constructed by Kozlovski, Shen, and van Strien, and by using a covering lemma recently proved by Kahn and Lyubich, we prove that a component of the filled-in Julia set of any polynomial is a point if and only if its forward orbit contains no periodic critical components. It follows immediately that the Julia set of a polynomial is a Cantor set if and only if each critical component of the filled-in Julia set is aperiodic. This result was a conjecture raised by Branner and Hubbard in 1992.

Abstract:Considering the Potts model on diamond-like hierarchical lattices, in this paper, we show that the Julia sets of the singularities of the free energy may be a Feigenbaum Julia set. Furthermore, we prove that these Julia sets are locally connected if they are connected.

Abstract:A new approach for the representation of 3D general Julia sets is put forward on the basis of tri-dimensional polynomial maps. The condition for a 3D polynomial map to be equivariant is theoretically analyzed and proved. The equations of two classes of 3D polynomial maps that are equivariant with respect to the rotational symmetries of either a regular tetrahedron group or a regular octahedron group are strictly given, on the basis of which the properties of the general Julia sets created by these 3D polynomial maps are discussed and proved. A ray-tracing volume rendering algorithm, which defines the color and opacity of every discrete point within a Julia set according to its escaping distance, is proposed in order to acquire high quality 3D fractal images. Experimental results demonstrate that the approach of generating 3D Julia sets from 3D polynomial maps not only enables us to predict the characteristics of Julia sets according to the properties of the maps, but also makes it possible for us to obtain various kinds of Julia sets with different rotational symmetries by altering the parameters of the maps. Consequently, drawbacks such as monotone structure of the resulting fractals and inability to predict fractal shape in the existing methods for generating 3D fractal sets can be effectually avoided. Furthermore, the method of generating 3D Julia sets by 3D polynomial maps can be applied to the construction of other 3D fractals, and hence would result in a different perspective for the generation of 3D fractals.

Abstract:The authors show that the self-similar set for a finite family of contractive similitudes (similaxities, i.e., \f(i)(x) - f(i)(y)\ = a(i)\x - y\, x,y is an element of R-N, where 0 < ai < 1) is uniformly perfect except the case that it is a singleton. As a corollary, it is proved that this self-similar set has positive Hausdorff dimension provided that it is not a singleton. And a lower bound of the upper box dimension of the uniformly perfect sets is given: Meanwhile the uniformly perfect set with Hausdorff measure zero in its Hausdorff dimension is given.

A multifractal analysis of the Julia set associated with the renormalization-group transformation, which gives the Fisher zeros of the partition function in the complex temperature plane, is performed. Abstract:We consider sequences of compositions of quadratic polynomials $f_{c_n} (z) = z^2 + c_n$. For such sequences one can naturally generalize the definitions of the Julia set and basin of infinity from the autonomous case. In this setting the Julia set depends on a sequence $\omega = (c_0, c_1, ...)$. We study the equilibrium (harmonic) measure on such Julia sets. In particular, we calculate the Hausdorff dimension of the equilibrium measure and study its dependence on the ''scale of randomness''.

Abstract:Let $K$ be a finite extension of the field $\mathbb{Q}_p$ of $p$-adic numbers, and $\phi\in K(z)$ be a rational map of degree at least $2$. We prove that the $K$-Julia set of $\phi$ is the natural restriction of $\mathbb{C}_p$-Julia set, provided that the critical orbits are well-behaved. Moreover, under further assumption that $\phi$ is geometrically finite, we prove that the dynamics on the $K$-Julia set of $\phi$ is a countable state Markov shift.

On invariant measures of "satellite" infinitely renormalizable quadratic polynomials

Abstract:Let f(z)=z^2+c be an infinitely renormalizable quadratic polynomial and J_\infty be the intersection of forward orbits of "small" Julia sets of its simple renormalizations. We prove that if f admits an infinite sequence of satellite renormalizations, then every invariant measure of f: J_\infty\to J_\infty is supported on the postcritical set and has zero Lyapunov exponent. Coupled with [G. Levin, F. Przytycki, W. Shen, The Lyapunov exponent of holomorphic maps. Invent. Math. 205 (2016), 363-382], this implies that the Lyapunov exponent of such f at c is equal to zero, which answers partly a question posed by Weixiao Shen.

Abstract:It is shown that the d(n)th Chebyshev polynomials oil the Julia set J(P), and on the equipotential curve Gamma(P)(R), of the polynomial P(z) = z(d) - c, are identical and exactly equal to the nth iteration of P(z) itself. Abstract:It was known that the Sierpiński carpets can appear as the Julia sets in the families of some rational maps. In this article we present a criterion that guarantees the existence of the carpet Julia sets in some rational maps having exactly one fixed (super-) attracting or parabolic basin. We show that this criterion can be applied to some well known rational maps, such as McMullen maps and Morosawa-Pilgrim family. Moreover, we give also some special examples whose Julia sets are Sierpiński carpets.

Abstract:In this paper, the main focus is on the Sierpinski carpet Julia sets of the rational maps with non-recurrent critical points. We study the uniform quasicircle property of the peripheral circles, the relatively separated property of the peripheral circles and the locally porous property of these carpets. We also establish some quasisymmetric rigidities of these carpets, which generalizes the main results of Bonk-Lyubich-Merenkov to the postcritically infinite case. In the end we give a strategy to construct a class of postcritically infinite rational maps whose Julia sets are quasisymetrically equivalent to some round carpets.
