Abstract:With the environmental regulations becoming more stringent and awareness of consumers increasing to protect environment, an urgent problem is to reduce the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Powder coating is a kind of solid powder coating without any solvent. Due to its excellent application performance and environment-friendly, it is widely used in the field of metal coating, especially appliances of offices and home. In recent years, the use of powder coatings has been developed very fast and the requirements of functional powder coatings are also gradually strengthened. According to resin of the film forming, powder coatings can be divided into two types: thermosetting powder coatings and thermoplastic powder coatings. Each kind of powder coatings has its own advantages and disadvantages, and they will be applied in different fields. In order to improve the properties of powder coatings, there are many reports and studies about them. The compositions of powder coatings were extruded, crushed and screened to gain powder of coating. The powder always was stored at room temperature. The powder coatings often operated by two kinds which were electrostatic spraying method and fluidized bed dipping method. After that, the powder was heated to melt and cure. Finally, a smooth bright permanent film on articles was formed to achieve the purpose of decoration and corrosion. The process flow preparation of powder coatings always separated into dry process production and wet process production. The development courses of powder coatings about resins, pigments and fillers are summarized. The future development trends of powder coatings are illustrated.

Abstract:Metal-coated composite powders refer to the powders with nonmetallic core and metallic shell. This type of composite powders has been widely used in various fields because they have both properties of metal and nonmetal. Based on introducing the preparation of the metal-coated powders, the progress in applications of electroless plated powders used for engineering materials such as ceramic cutting tool, diamond-like grinding tool, graphite brush, blake block, electronic contact materials, metal matrix composites, thermal spraying powder and vibration absorbing materials are reviewed.

Abstract:With unique design concept, high entropy alloy coating has excellent mechanical properties and physical and chemical properties superior to traditional alloy coating, and high entropy alloy coating has strong application potential in many fields, which has attracted extensive attention of researchers. In this paper, the recent research progress of main preparation technology of high entropy alloy coating was reviewed, including laser cladding technology, thermal spraying technology, cold spraying technology, magnetron sputtering technology, electrochemical deposition technology etc. The advantages and disadvantages of each preparation technology and the performance characteristics of the high entropy alloy coating were analyzed in detail, and the problems in the research process of high entropy alloy coating at present were put forward, which provided reference and guidance for the follow-up research, application and development of high entropy alloy coating.

Abstract:The environment pollution caused by phosphating pretreatment for coating and restrict measures and new total phosphorus discharge standards promulgated by various countries were reviewed.An introduction is given of the advantages and disadvantages of three new non-phosphorus coating pretreatment processes as alternatives to phosphating,including fluorozirconate (zirconia) pretreatment,silane coupling pretreatment and surface coordination compound film pretreatment on the surface of steel and iron.A detailed discussion is made of the characteristics,process flow,solution compositions,operating conditions as well as solution maintenance of three surface coordination compound film pretreatment processes by use of FPC405 antirust sealing agent prior to electrophoretic coating of iron and steel,FPC406 antirust sealing agent prior to painting of iron and steel,and FPC408 antirust sealing agent prior to powder coating of iron and steel.The three new processes have been used in many factories in China and showed very good results.

Abstract:Surface engineering of particles based on a polymeric coating is of great interest in materials design and applications. Due to the disadvantages of non-biodegradability and undesirable biocompatibility, the application of petroleum-based synthetic polymers coating in the biomedical field has been greatly limited. In addition, there is lack of a universal surface modification method to functionalize particles of different compositions, sizes, shapes, and structures. Thus, it is imperative to develop a versatile biopolymeric coating with good biocompatibility and tunable biodegradability for the preparation of functional particle materials regardless of their surface chemical and physical structures. Recently, the natural polysaccharide polymers (e.g. chitosan and cellulose), polyphenol-based biopolymers (e.g. polydopamine and tannic acid), and proteins (e.g. amyloid-like aggregates) have been utilized in surface modification of particles, and applications of these modified particles in the field of biomedicine have been also intensively exploited. In this review, the preparation of the above three coatings on particles surface are summarized, and the applications of these materials in drug loading/release, biomineralization, cell immobilization/protection, enzyme immobilization/protection, and antibacterial/antiviral are exemplified. Finally, the challenges and the future research directions on biopolymer coating for particles surface engineering are prospected.

Abstract:The coating mechanism of different coating materials for boron particle was described. The principle for selecting the coating materials of boron particle was summarized from five aspects, which includes elaborated removing oxide layer, enhancing combustion temperature, reducing ignition temperature, improving surface compatibility and stimulating the oxidation of boron particles. A variety of the research status of boron particle coating technologies, such as precipitation and surface chemical reaction, macromolecule absorption polymerization, gas phase coating and ball milling was summarized and the actual application results of different processes were analyzed and compared. A variety of modern technologies to test the coating effect of boron particle were introduced. It also reviews the current status of research and insufficience of boron particle coating technology and prospects for the future direction of research.With 46 references.

Abstract:In this paper,the preparation methods of organobentonite and the reaction mechanism of organobentonite in coating are discussed.Organobentonite contributes to high thickening and anti-settling effect,and brushing property.It can improve noncorrodibility and washing resistance of paint film.The coating is used widely,so it contributes to saving cost and improving properties of coating.

Abstract:The surface coating mechanisms of inorganic micro/nano-particles are summarized.The research progresses on the surface modification technologies of micro/nano-particles by the organic and inorganic coating are also elaborated.Some common surface coating methods,such as coupling agent modification,surface grafting polymerization,mechanical hybrid method,ball milling method,sol-gel technology,and so on are illustrated respectively.Meanwhile,some problems needed to be solved concerning encapsulation of inorganic ultrafine particles are raised and discussed.

Abstract:Zinc-iron-phosphorus alloy electrodeposits are protective and decorative coatings for iron and steel which were developed on the basis of zinc-iron, zinc-phosphorus and iron-phosphorus alloy deposits. They have strengths such as excellent corrosion resistance, paintability, weldability and workability, low cost and wide application. Current status of the study of zinc-iron-phosphorus alloy electroplating in China and other countries was reviewed. Classification as well as properties, deposition mechanism and additive compostion of zinc-iron-phosphorus alloy plating was summarized, and direction of the study in future was forwarded.

Abstract:As a special material needed for the development of high and new industries， high purity iron has better corrosion resistance， magnetic and electrical properties than traditional pure iron and iron-based materials. It has broad application prospects in many industrial fields， such as aerospace， energy and new semiconductor industries. Several typical preparing technologies of high purity iron are introduced， such as zone melting， electromagnetic levitation melting， electrolytic refining， etc. The research focus on the status for electrolysis preparation of high purity iron in recent years， and the influence of electrolysis process on the quality of pure iron is analyzed in detail. Finally， the development trend of electrolytic preparation of high purity iron is prospected， which provides guidance for the development of amorphous materials and iron and steel materials in China.

Abstract:The technique of Zn-Cr coating was preliminary studied in this paper. Firstly, the contents of zinc powder, CrO3 and H3BO3 in the Zn-Cr coating paint were preliminary studied. The two kinds of reductant R1 and R2 were selected and the contents of them were determined. Then the optimum composition of the Zn-Cr coating paint was researched. At last, the additive A was selected to improve the adhesion of the coating. Further research efforts were pointed out.

Abstract:Organic-inorganic(O/I) nanocomposite coatings have been developed very quickly in recent years and are gradually becoming one of the most active areas in coatings' research. This review classifies the preparation methods into three categories: embedding with nanoparticles, sot-gel process and self-assembly method. All these three routes are systematically discussed including the factors influencing the structure and properties of nanocomposite coatings. Some evaluations and suggestions are given for each method.
