Abstract:Many protection products of avoiding breakage caused by lightning stroke have been used and have good effect in Beijing. But there are still some breakages existing for the insulated conductors after installing the protection products according to the company technology standard. For these reasons, an experimental research is carried out in order to consummate the former research results of breakage caused by lightning stroke, and provides instructions for the power supply department. The contents of the study are the breakage caused by lightning stroke tests of overhead insulated conductors, the breakage caused by lightning stroke tests of overhead bare conductors, the proof-test of the clamping post insulators and the capability tests of the gaps with the power arc. In the short-time high power arc tests, the two protection products can protect the insulated conductors from being burn down. The problems for those products are analyzed and suggestions are given. Through comparing the burning conditions of the insulated conductors and the bare conductors in case of long-time low power arc tests, it is found that possibilities of the conductors breakage exist when single-phase to earth fault occurs.

Abstract:The principle of phase shift controlled full-bridge(FB)converter was analyzed,and a reliable IGBT driver circuit was presented.Based on the above,a power supply module with constant voltage or constant current output was designed for electric vehicle charging.Differential voltage feedback made it possible to achieve series and parallel.Finally,a prototype was developed with three-phase AC 380 V input,DC 100 V output,10 kW output power.The experimental results show that the power supply has good control performance,strong flexibility and reliability.

Abstract:The development of UHV DC transmission demands that DC protection system should detect faults immediately and react correctly in order to minimize the damage to system.Based on the characteristic and principle of UHVDC protection,the protection zones of±800 kV UHV DC project from Xiangjiaba to Shanghai are formulated.The functions,implementations and sketch maps of DC protection in every zone are described,with focus on the concept,the principle and the functions of UHV DC protection.
Analysis on Overvoltage in Renovated Control and Protection System for HVDC Power Transmission Project from Tianshengqiao to Guangzhou

Abstract:System overvoltages in the renovated ±500 kV DC power transmission project from Tianshengqiao to Guangzhou under four typical fault conditions,i.e.,single-phase grounding occurred at upper-half rectifier bridge side of wye-wye connected winding of converter transformer,interphase switching surge from AC system,loss of AC power supply occurred at inverter side and inverter being blocked with unblocked bypass pairs,are analyzed and computed to ensure overvoltage at different positions in the grid as well as energy consumption of arresters can be restricted within rational ranges by renovated control and protection system,thus the secure operation of all power equipments can be implemented.Analysis results show that higher overvoltages will appear at neutral-bus due to single-phase grounding occurred at valve side of wye-wye connected winding of converter transformer,and the energy consumption of neutral-bus arrester will also be higher;higher overvoltage will appear at the terminals of rectifier valves due to interphase switching surge from AC system and it makes valve arrester operated;higher overvoltage will occur at AC bus of inverter station due to the loss of AC power supply at inverter side and it makes AC bus arrester operated;a rather high overvoltage will appear on DC polar line at inverter side due to inverter being blocked with unblocked bypass pairs and it makes a high energy consumption of arrester of DC polar line.The energy consumption of all arresters does not yet exceed the designed discharging capability under these four fault conditions,thus secure and stable operation of all arresters can be ensured.

Abstract:For an UHVDC power system,the over-voltage level of its converter stations impacts directly on the insulation coordination of the stations equipments and the reliability of the system operation.With Xiluo-Zhexi ±800 kV UHVDC transmission project as an object,this paper makes simulations on various typical fault conditions such as ground fault on the valve side of HV/LV converter transformer,phase-to-phase switching impulse from AC side,full-voltage starting and DC line fault,resulting in the maximum values of over-voltage and energy for related arresters in Xiluodu and Zhexi stations,and thus providing basis for the insulation coordination design of the station equipments as well as their type selection,manufacture and test.

Abstract:Based on post-innovation control and protection strategies for ±500 kV DC power transmission project from Tianshengqiao to Guangdong,the overvoltages of neutral-bus under various fault conditions are researched and the overvoltage processes under different fault conditions are divided into several stages for the detailed analysis,and the overvoltage mechanism as well as the current direction during various stages are expounded.Research results show that the energy flowing through neutral-bus arrester due to the grounding faults respectively occurred at outgoing line of valve side of converter transformer and that occurred at outgoing line of rectifier bridge cannot be controlled by the control and protection system,so the neutral-bus arrester has to exist enough adequate energy capability;the energy flowing through neutral-bus arrester due to the break fault occurred in DC system can be reduced while the time-delay of protection action is shortened.

Abstract:A multiphase rectifier generator is important power generation equipment in DC power systems in transportation fields such as ships and aviation. Grounding design and grounding fault detection and positioning are key technologies for the safe operation of the power system. This article aims to systematically elaborate on the current research status of its related content. Firstly, the topological structure characteristics of the multiphase rectifier generator power supply system are introduced, the advantages and disadvantages of different grounding methods, position selection, and other design schemes are analyzed, and reasonable suggestions are given for the selection of grounding resistance. Secondly, a brief introduction is given to the research progress on ground fault detection and location in the medium voltage DC integrated power systems of ships, and the characteristics of typical methods for ground fault detection and location in DC power grid systems are summarized. Finally, the future research directions are outlined.

Abstract:Power supply system is an important part of safety-critical computer platform for the railway signal control equipment. According to the basic architecture of dual-duplex platform, to meet the reliability requirements of safety-critical computer platform in EN50126, the power supply system is improved and better architectures is proposed. In addition, according to the EMC requirements of EN50121 railway standard, to solve some important EMC problems, the power system adopts the following design methods: transient voltage suppression, current-limiting and voltage dips suppression. Finally, this paper uses Reliability analysis Software to verify the effect of this power supply system design on system reliability, and uses experimental method to verify the function realization of EMC solutions.

Abstract:In shipboard integrated power system, DC zonal distribution system has advantages in power density improvement, system simplification and modularization, and can effectively improve the continuity and reliability of power supply. This paper introduces the application of DC zonal distribution system in shipboard integrated power system, and discusses the advantages of DC zonal distribution system compared to the conventional one. The key technologies needed to be solved are summarized, and the analyses of practical significance and application prospects are given. Finally, it points out that the issues of system stability, power converters and the DC circuit breakers still need a further study.

Abstract:Insulation coordination of converter substation is one of key technologies in the implementation of ±800kV DC power transmission project. Based on two ±800kV DC power transmission projects being constructed in China, i.e., the DC power transmission project from Xiangjiaba to Shanghai and that from Yunnan to Guangdong, the features of insulation coordination for UHVDC converter substations are analyzed in the aspects of separate arrangement of split smoothing reactor and the configuration of lightning arresters. The economic and technical superiorities of the separate arrangement of split smoothing reactor in UHVDC power transmission are emphatically researched, and it is pointed out that the separate arrangement of split smoothing reactor will be the preferred arrangement of smoothing reactor in UHVAC converter stations. The arrangement of lightning arresters for above-mentioned two converter subsatations are given, and the protecting function of each arrester is described. Finally, the end-to-end protecting function of smoothing reactor connected with pole bus by parallel arresters, which is adopted in UHVAC projects, as well as the merits and defects of different protection modes adopted for at the valve side of wye-wye connected converter transformer in above-metioned two UHVDC proj ects are analyzed.

Abstract:The requirements of a good test scheme are described, such as independent excitation, none-repeated measurement, large voltage signals and sensitive to the changes of branch resistances. Reciprocity theorem and superposition theorem can be used to determine whether a test scheme is completed. Theorem of Maximum Voltage is proved through reduction to absurdity, and its three inferences are put forward, based on which, the theoretical best test scheme is obtained, which suffers from the remarkable influence of grounding down line resistances. The suggested test scheme is presented which can avoid of above problem. A grounding grid with sixty branches is used as an example. Simulation results verify that the suggested test scheme is the most appropriate and with high performance in the practice. ©2007 IEEE.
Grounding Methods of Multi-Terminal VSC-HVDC System Based on Modular Multi-level Converter

Abstract:The grounding methods for multi-terminal voltage source converter based high voltage direct current( VSCHVDC) transmission system in Zhoushan were researched,and the grounding method for each converter station was determined,in which star ground reactance with neutral grounding resistor were recommended for Dinghai and Daishan converter station,while Y / Y converter transformer with neutral grounding resistor were recommended for Qushan,Yangshan and Sijiao converter station. On this basis,the overvoltage and insulation levels of converter station equipments were calculated. For Dinghai and Daishan converter station,the rated voltage of equipment at the ac side of the converter transformer is 220 kV,the lightning impulse insulation level for equipments at this zone are 950 kV. For the other three stations,the rated voltage is 110 kV,the lightning impulse insulation level is 450 kV; the insulation level of lightning impulse and that of switching impulse for AC equipment at the valve side of the transformer are 650 kV( or 750 kV) and 550 kV; insulations for 200 kV DC polar line are suggested to 650 kV( or 750 kV) and 550 kV respectively.

Abstract:Because of the particularity of the shipboard medium voltage DC power grid, differential and inverter protection can not meet the reliability requirements of total system protection. Based on a shipboard medium voltage DC system, grounding fault characteristics of the neutral point grounding by the high resistance is researched, and the disadvantage of differential protection and inverter protection is analyzed, thus the grounding protection scheme of the zero sequence differential protection and the characteristic frequency voltage protection via electronic current transformer (ECT) are proposed, and the sensitivity of protection is improved in this method. The simulation analysis validates the feasibility of protection methods by SIMULINK.
A Control and Protection Scheme of Multi-terminal DC Power System for DC Line Fault

Abstract:In the multi-terminal DC power transmission system,DC circuit breakers contribute to the fast fault clearing,but the immature manufacturing process leads to the difficulty of its engineering application.This paper uses AC circuit breakers on the DC side of the DC transmission system instead of DC circuit breakers,and a scheme of multi-terminal DC power system control and protections for the DC line fault is proposed.Using PSCAD/EMTDC,a ±800 kV bipolar four-terminal DC transmission system module is built and simulated.The simulation result shows that the system under the fault can achieve fast recovery by using the control and protection scheme based on AC breakers.The demand of power transmission is satisfied and the stability of the connected AC system is enhanced effectively.

Abstract:With rapid growth of power load and power consumers’ ever-growing demands on power quality, traditional distribution system has been faced to new challenges, thus special attentions are paid to the huge potential of DC distribution technology in improving power quality. Being short of mature and economic DC circuit breakers and their practical operational experiences, protection technique becomes the bottleneck that restricts the development of DC distribution system. Firstly, present developing situation of protection technology for DC distribution system is summarized, and starting from the concept of DC distribution system the dilemma in the research on protection technology for DC distribution system is presented; the protection zone and fault types are clarified, and the particularity of protection for DC distribution system faults is pointed out; a review on current development of fault isolation devices and fault current limiters for DC distribution system are given and the protection strategy of DC distribution system is summarized; finally, the technical research on protection for DC distribution system is prospected.

Abstract:Dc distribution systems are multiterminal systems characterized by complexity and mixed operation of ac and dc. Ac side faults are more likely to happen and may cause more serious consequences compared with dc transmission systems, thus must be considered seriously. In this paper, ac side faults of the prototype dc distribution system under high impedance grounding scheme are analyzed in detail. Fault characteristics of dc side voltages and currents under ac side faults are drawn and sorted. A protection scheme of ac side faults is proposed based on dc voltage and current measurements. The effectiveness of the protection scheme proposed is demonstrated by simulation under PSCAD/EMTDC.

Abstract:The paper introduces a new type of DC isolation supervisory device according to test power supply panel situation in capital construction,reconstruction and expansion of debugging field,thus makes real-time monitoring on temporary DC power supply operating situation,and emits alarm signal when the secondary circuit occurred grounding fault.The device can effectively find out DC insolating fault with high anti-interference performance,simple structure,small size and convenience,thus improves accuracy and versatility of the secondary system fault estimation in capital construction,reconstruction and expansion debugging field.

Abstract:Flexible traction power supply system (FTPSS) can eliminate neutral sections of all catenaries and improve the poor power quality of railway substations. The static power converter (SPC) is the key equipment of FTPSS and its internal faults must be quickly identified and cleared with minimal impact on catenaries to ensure the safety and reliability. This article investigates the two-stage fault characteristics in FTPSS. Before blocking, overcurrent and voltage distortion may result in a wide range of abnormal power supply. After blocking, capacitor overvoltage becomes the primary problem threatening the safety of faulty SPC because of the energy feeding from other SPCs. Equivalent circuits are established and applied to various fault conditions. The most serious fault case can be found through the comparison, so the complicated large-scale simulation scanning can be avoided. A T-shaped grounding method is proposed to solve the problem of fault current and capacitor overvoltage. Based on the calculation and simulation results of several typical fault cases, the dimensioning criterion of grounding circuit is provided for reference. Moreover, a comprehensive scheme of grounding protection is designed to detect and isolate serious faults. The theoretical fault analysis and the proposed grounding method are verified by simulations and experiments.

Abstract:The traction reflux characteristics of an electric multiple unit (EMU) are directly related to its safe operation. It is of great engineering value to improve the reflux characteristics by improving the protective grounding system. The typical Chinese EMU with the eight-car power distribution marshaling and decentralized grounding model is taken as the research object of this study, and the circuit model of the traction reflux system is established by Multisim software, the effectiveness of which is verified by field tests. Combining the simulation and measured data, the distribution law of the traction current is analyzed. Based on the advantages of different grounding modes, three improvement schemes of the protective grounding system are proposed. The results show the following: 1) the circuit model of the traction reflux system is effective; 2) the traction current is mainly discharged from the end cars to the railway track; 3) the improvement schemes of the protective grounding system under the normal operation can also improve the traction reflux characteristics under the power loss condition; and 4) based on the proposed protective grounding improvement schemes, on the condition that the car body potential meets the standard requirements, the maximum grounding current amplitude is reduced to 48.4% of the original value, the circulating current is eliminated, the maximum current difference between the two axles of the same coach is reduced to 5.2% of the original value, and the effectiveness of the improvement schemes is verified by field tests.
