Abstract:There is a collection book The Epitaph for Li Hu in Qingshui County of Gansu Province. Some scholars believe that the Li Hu is Li Yuans grandfather whose name is also Li Hu. The investigations on the origins of his surname, style, the names of his father and grandfather, ranks and titles, the year he died and the place of his tomb proved that the Li Hu in Qingshui County and the late grandfather of Tang Dynasty Li Hu are absolutely not the same identical person.

Abstract:Prof. Wang Weiqi passed away on 26 August 2022, in Shanghai, China, at the age of 83 due to a heart attack. He will be remembered as a pioneer of biomedical ultrasonics in China, a highly respected colleague in the ultrasound research community, and an influential role model of perseverance, dedication, and excellence for students and academic peers at Fudan University, Shanghai, his alma mater and academic home since 1956.

Abstract:It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Hai-yan Wang on 11 December 2014 at the age of 77. Behind this internationally renowned name was a woman of great will, enthusiasm, and outstanding intelligence. She became one of the very few who helped give birth, growth, and strength to modern nephrology in China. Hai-yan Wang was born on 8 July 1937 in Qing-dao, Shan-dong Province, China. She graduated from Beijing Medical College in 1959 and started her career as a nephrologist under the mentorship of the late Professor Shu-xian Wang, founder of modern nephrology in China. From 1980 to 1983, she was a pioneering visiting scholar, under the supervision of Professor R. Glassock and Professor W. Border at the University of California, Los Angeles. Hai-yan was a lifelong tenured professor of medicine at Peking University First Hospital and president of the Peking University Institute of Nephrology. She was a well-known leading physician-scientist, recognizing the heterogeneity of various causes of intrinsic acute renal failure and improving the concept of primary glomerulonephritis in China in the 1980s. At the same time, her work in establishing a clinical database and biobank on various kidney diseases played a fundamental role in future translational studies. Aside from these successes, she launched clinical epidemiology in China involving chronic kidney disease and acute kidney injury. Not only did she build one of the most successful renal programs at Peking University First Hospital, but she also trained many nephrologists throughout the country. In 2013, she was awarded the International Society of Nephrology Roscoe R. Robinson Award and the first ISN Pioneer in Nephrology Award for her outstanding contributions to nephrology education and the development of modern nephrology in China. Professor Hai-yan Wang was very active in the academic area of national and international nephrology as well as internal medicine. She served as Council member of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) (2004–2008), ISN executive councilor (2006–2008), and chair of the ISN East Asia Committee (2004–2013) and was a member of the ISN 0by25 advisory group. She was vice president of the Chinese Medical Association (1999–2009), president of the Chinese Society of Internal Medicine (2000–2008), and president of the Chinese Society of Nephrology (1992–1998). Hai-yan Wang: a name, a woman, and a history. Her legacy will continue to guide the development of nephrology in China and worldwide.

Abstract:It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death on February 13, 2014 of Professor Toshisuke Hirano, who was a “father of AOAFST”. At the occasion of the 10th Asia-Oceania Symposium on Fire Science and Technology (10th AOSFST), we share the memories of Prof. Hirano and renew his will on the progress of fire science. In this article, his achievements are summarized, such as the activities in academic societies, achievements on scientific researches, major awards received, and so on. The eulogies given by Prof. Wan-Ki Chow (Hong Kong), Prof. Bogdan Dlugogorski (Australia) and Prof. Patrick van Hees (Sweden), and Prof. Jinhua Sun (China) are included in this article.

Abstract:Based on the papers collected from CNKI,this paper attempts to examine the linguistic inquiries Prof.Zhuanglin Hu have made and describe his major fields of research and generalize his contributions to the development of linguistics in China.Apart from rhetoric,language planning,language testing,contrastive studies in English and Chinese,and lexicography,CNKI shows that Hu's major fields of research can be categorized into six types,including systemic functional linguistics,general linguistics,semiotics,discourse analysis,stylistics,language education,hypertext,multimodality,metaphor,and evidentiality.The numerous papers on diversified topics reflect Hu's devotion to introducing and examining foreign new linguistic theories,localizing foreign theories,fostering interdisciplinary studies and foreign language teaching in China.He experiments with critical thinking and is quick at grasping the essence of good theories.Many of his academic ideas can serve as a good guide to our linguistic research and practice.

Abstract:The famous Chinese scientist Professor Zeyuan Liu passed away on February 8, 2020, aged 80. He was a productive and influential scientist, both in quantitative and in qualitative studies. To cherish the memory of Professor Liu and in praise of his scientific thoughts and scientific spirit, we explored his academic career rhythm based on our rhythm indicator of science. The rhythm indicator is created based on a publication-citation matrix, eliminating the impact of length of citation windows, making citations comparable for different years. In Liu’s rhythm study the publication indicator and citation indicator are combined. Data were retrieved from China National Knowledge Infrastructure and WoS. The most important finding is that Liu’s academic career rhythm is totally different from that of two famous western scientists T. Braun and R. Rousseau. Because of the delayed scientific research by China’s Cultural Revolution, it was only in 1979 that Liu published his first scientific paper and launched his academic career. In the first 20 years he published 41 papers, mostly single-authored. Their research topics were scattered and mainly used qualitative methods. In 1999 Liu changed his research paradigm from qualitative to quantitative studies, focusing on scientometrics, citation analysis and knowledge mapping. New topics, new methods and multi-authored collaboration greatly increased his productivity (293 articles) and influence. The above exploration is based on both whole counting of publications/citations and fractional counting. Three problems, including the normalization of the p–c matrix, are discussed. The rhythm indicator of science is a contribution to the evaluation methodology for scientist-level and journal-level scientific impact.
The Summary of Studies on Yu Hua in the Recent Twenty Years

Abstract:From the first research paper "the January Fresh Wind" on Yu Hua to May,2007,the research work on Yu Hua has developed for 23 years.Up to the present,the studies are launched form five aspects: First,in the aspect of the writer's literature view,the "spirit of truth" which Yu Hua advocates and the departure of his novels from the present situation by "the false form" are the main issues.Second,it is difficult to reach a consensus on the vanguard of the "pioneer spirit" and creative transformation.Third,in his novels' performance world,the critics have discovered several key words: violence,death,misery,desire.Fourth,in the research of the text form,the researchers constantly describe the works by narration language,the genre subversion,the repetition narrates,and such studies show "thinning" tendency.Fifth,in the impact of local and foreign levels,Lu Xun,Kawabata and Kafka are undoubtedly the objects which researchers are ready to compare with Yu Hua.
