Abstract:Mr.Huang Shouqi,who has passed away for more than twenty years,is well-known as many different identities,including a specialist on contemporary Chinese language and literature,an educator,an expert of Yi-ology,and a brilliant classical poet with a lot of good works.On the basis of reviewing the extraordinary academic experience of his whole life,and exploring of his distinctive human spirit and charisma,this article will further discuss his academic achievements in the fields of Yi-ology,the study of Confucian Classics,Literature and other aspects.Through all the above,the article aims to help public to get a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the famous Confucian scholar of the twentieth century,thus can contribute to better inheritation and spread of the excellent traditional Chinese wisdom and culture.

Abstract:Mr. Wang Furen is the ghost keeper of Lu Xun and the night watcher of Chinese modern literature and culture. His departure renders modern literature even more desolate and void, and takes away an age intimate to us. Among contemporary scholars Mr. Wang Furen is the simplest but also the greatest, which makes him especially valuable. Compared with those fake masters, Mr. Wang Furen's achievement has been greatly undervalued, which, however, is exactly the difference between a true scholar and false ones, and is the destiny of a lone ranger.

Abstract:Prof. Wang Weiqi passed away on 26 August 2022, in Shanghai, China, at the age of 83 due to a heart attack. He will be remembered as a pioneer of biomedical ultrasonics in China, a highly respected colleague in the ultrasound research community, and an influential role model of perseverance, dedication, and excellence for students and academic peers at Fudan University, Shanghai, his alma mater and academic home since 1956.

Abstract:Lin Hei-er,the leader of the Red Lanterns in Tianjin during the Boxer Movement,was known as Huanglianshengmu(Notre Dame of Yellow Lotus).The romaunt spreads broadly and impacts greatly,which has the ideological characteristics intensely.Although the Conservative Group in Qing government once approved and indulged the Boxers,the record of Huanglianshengmu in official historical data was scarce.In the contemporary scholars' works,most highlight her heroic performance,in order to mold her as the revolutionary rebel and the women's liberation movement idol.In fact,the multiple status which has been given to Huanglianshengmu for a long time,the fishing female,the goddess,the evil bandit and the revolutionary hero,cannot summarize her vivid characteristic accurately.This article tries hard to inquire into the background,the process and the influence of Lin Heier's deification.We also do the contrastive analysis among the description of Hongdengzhao for more than 100 years.Ultimately let the image really return to the original state.

Abstract:Professor Guo Xiaolan (Hsiao Lan Kuo), a worldwide famous scholar in atmospheric sciences, originally came from China in 1940's, passed away on May 6, 2006 at his age of 91 in Chicago, the USA. Professor Guo's brief biography and contributions to atmospheric sciences in the several decades with his hard work are summarized on the basis of his more than 70 representative papers selected by the authors. His main creative and leading achievements introduced include the theory of dynamic instability in the atmosphere, theories of the formation of the general circulation and the large scale thermally driven circulation, dynamic theories of mesoscale convection and vortex, and low latitude and tropical dynamics. The parameterization schemes for physical processes in numerical models developed by Prof. Guo, and the results of the numerical modeling of topographic dynamic and thermal effects of the Tibetan Plateau on weather and climate are also introduced. It is evidently seen from those introductions that Prof. Guo made superexcellent contributions to atmospheric sciences and education. Prof. Guo is our model, from whom we, his posterity, can learn a lot of things. May Prof. Guo rest in peace!

Abstract:Professor Marjorie Perloff was a distinguished scholar, poetry critic, and theorist. Her profound insights and unique perspectives on modern and contempo-rary American poetry have earned her high recognition in the international academic community. She was not only an Emeritus Professor at Stanford University and the University of Southern California but also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the American Philosophical Society. Her research spanned multiple fields, with outstanding achievements particularly in avant-garde poetry and modernist and postmodernist theory. Her works, including The Poetics of Indeterminacy: Rimbaud to Cage, Radical Artifice: Writing Poetry in the Age of Me-dia, Infrathin: An Experiment in Micropoetics, have not only provided new perspec-tives for understanding modern poetry but also advanced the development of poetry theory, establishing leading theories such as the poetics of indeterminacy and micro-poetics. Professor Perloff also served as the long-term president of China-American Association for Poetry and Poetics, actively promoting cultural exchange between China and the United States and fostering deep cooperation in the field of poetry research. Though Professor Perloff passed away, she has left behind us a valuable academic legacy. We will always keep her in our hearts.
The Death of Tang Jiyao in the Context of “Down with Warlords”

Abstract:In the Northern Expedition,"Down with Warlords"became the most important slogan for revolutionary mobilization and the dominant target of the war.At this critical moment,Tang Jiyao,the Yunnan warlord died; and his lonely death presented a striking contrast to his vigorous and colorful life.People could not help but lament his untimely death,for he passed away when he was right down at the bottom of his life.Previously powerful and influential figures,if they failed to keep pace with the times,were doomed to be abandoned by history.Contemporary comments and particular historical context provide us with a different perspective on how those once important historical figures soon faded out of the world and how the first-generation warlords in modern China took their curtain calls on the historical stage.

Abstract:Cheng Lin, a famous doctor in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, had a great reputation with his medical achievements. According to the prefaces and postscripts in a variety of books and local records, he was born earlier than 1616 and died later than 1700 in Huaitang in She Xian. He learned medicine from his uncle Cheng Jingtong when he was young. After that, he learned from the famous doctor Yu Chang. He visited Kaifeng, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Yangzhou, and made friends with many then celebrities, such as Zhou Lianggong, Lin Sihuan and You Tong. He left many medical writings, such as Yi Xia Zhi Yan, Jin Gui Yao Lue Zhi Jie and Sheng Ji Zong Lu Zuan Yao. He was also good at painting and seal cutting. His family, the Cheng's, in Huaitang in Xin'an, had many off-springs who became famous doctors, such as Cheng Jin, Cheng Jie, Cheng Yandao, and Cheng Yingmao, with their medical history continuing up to the present day.

Abstract:This article is an unpublished manuscript of the late Professor Zhu Dongrun,probably written in June,1940. Before that Professor Zhu had finished his Shiji kaosuo( textual research of Shiji) as part of his teaching arrangement,but he concerned more about the biographical literature in ancient China. He wrote Revolution of Biographic Literature,including this article,which is a monograph on biographies and entire books. This article comes to the scope of official history, discusses about the relation and differences between historical biography and biographical literature,and gives insight into Guanyan liezhuan,Weigongzi zhuan,Weiqi wuanhou zhuan,and the pros and cons of the biographic narration in Xiangyu benji and Liubang benji( emperors' biography). It is one of the best works during Professor Zhu's academic peak,vigorously and critically written,with meticulous analysis and deep insights. A mind integrated the West and East,the past and present is demonstrated in the article.

Abstract:It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Hai-yan Wang on 11 December 2014 at the age of 77. Behind this internationally renowned name was a woman of great will, enthusiasm, and outstanding intelligence. She became one of the very few who helped give birth, growth, and strength to modern nephrology in China. Hai-yan Wang was born on 8 July 1937 in Qing-dao, Shan-dong Province, China. She graduated from Beijing Medical College in 1959 and started her career as a nephrologist under the mentorship of the late Professor Shu-xian Wang, founder of modern nephrology in China. From 1980 to 1983, she was a pioneering visiting scholar, under the supervision of Professor R. Glassock and Professor W. Border at the University of California, Los Angeles. Hai-yan was a lifelong tenured professor of medicine at Peking University First Hospital and president of the Peking University Institute of Nephrology. She was a well-known leading physician-scientist, recognizing the heterogeneity of various causes of intrinsic acute renal failure and improving the concept of primary glomerulonephritis in China in the 1980s. At the same time, her work in establishing a clinical database and biobank on various kidney diseases played a fundamental role in future translational studies. Aside from these successes, she launched clinical epidemiology in China involving chronic kidney disease and acute kidney injury. Not only did she build one of the most successful renal programs at Peking University First Hospital, but she also trained many nephrologists throughout the country. In 2013, she was awarded the International Society of Nephrology Roscoe R. Robinson Award and the first ISN Pioneer in Nephrology Award for her outstanding contributions to nephrology education and the development of modern nephrology in China. Professor Hai-yan Wang was very active in the academic area of national and international nephrology as well as internal medicine. She served as Council member of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) (2004–2008), ISN executive councilor (2006–2008), and chair of the ISN East Asia Committee (2004–2013) and was a member of the ISN 0by25 advisory group. She was vice president of the Chinese Medical Association (1999–2009), president of the Chinese Society of Internal Medicine (2000–2008), and president of the Chinese Society of Nephrology (1992–1998). Hai-yan Wang: a name, a woman, and a history. Her legacy will continue to guide the development of nephrology in China and worldwide.
