Abstract:Objective: The inter scalene and supraclavicular approach are two main methods of brachial plexus anesthesia. The purpose of this study is to compare the anesthetic effects of ultrasound-guided brachial plexus block using these two approaches. Method: A total of 60 patients undergoing elective upper limb surgery in our hospital in recent years were randomly divided into inter scalene approach group and supraclavicular approach group. Both groups were completed brachial plexus block guided by ultrasound. The anesthetic effect between two groups was compared. Result: Both the inter scalene and supraclavicular approach can obtain clear images of brachial plexus nerve. After guidance by ultrasound, the puncture needle and drug distribution can be displayed. Good fixation of upper limb bone was reached in the postoperative X-ray. There were no significant differences in anesthesia time, postoperative analgesia time, 20-minute block perfection rate, the use of adjuvant analgesics and the incidence of anesthesia-related complications between two groups (All P > 0.05). Conclusion: Both the inter scalene and supraclavicular approach guided by ultrasound are safe and effective methods for brachial plexus block.
