Abstract:MnZn ferrites substituted with titanium having the compositional formula of Mn0.679-xZn0.256TixFe2.066 O-4 (X = 0, 0.010, 0.020, 0.030) were prepared via a conventional ceramic process. The effect of titanium concentration on magnetic properties such as permeability, power loss, and Curie temperature were investigated. Moreover, Mossbauer spectra was recorded at room temperature. The cation distribution obtained from analysis of Mossbauer spectra revealed that the substitution of MnZn ferrites by titanium can move part of Fe3+ from octahedral (B) site to tetrahedral (A) site. Remarkably, this resulted in an increase in the amount of Fe3+ (A) -Fe3+ B ion pairs and the Curie temperature. The results obtained and mechanisms involved are discussed.

Abstract:We report on the influence of substitutional atoms TM (TM = Co, Ni) on the properties of (Fe1-xTMx)4N compounds. The structure and magnetic properties were studied by X-ray diffraction, vibrating-sample magnetometer measurement and Mössbauer spectroscopy. All the samples exhibit a γ′-Fe4N-type structure. The substitution of Co for iron is random, but Ni has a preference for the comer sites. The hyperfine field and the isomer shift of γ′-(Fe1-xTMx)4N are closely related to the concentration of the substitutional atom and its site occupation. All these can be readily explained by the increase of 3d electrons and the decrease of unit-cell volume. Combining the saturation magnetization and the hyperfine field, the magnetic moment of transition-metal atom in γ′-(Fe1-xTMx)4N has been derived. Using high-pressure Mössbauer spectra, the magnetovolume effect and the chemical bonding effect of the TM atom has been investigated for the first time.

Abstract:The Ti4+ and Mg2+ co-substituted lithium ferrites with different compositions of Zn0.1Li0.45Mn0.1Fe2.35-2x (TiMg)xO4 (x=0.0-0.5) were prepared by the ceramic standard processing. The magnetic properties and microstructure of the samples were investigated. A single phase spinel structure was confirmed by XRD in substituting range. Sintering densities continuously decreased with the increase at x value, which was attributed to the fact that the heavier Fe3+ ions were replaced by the relatively lighter Ti4+ and Mg2+ ions. However, relative density of the samples had no obvious relationship with the substituting value. Saturation magnetization continuously decreased with x value, which was attributed to the decrease of resultant magnetic moment between A and B sub-lattice. Remanence decreased monotonously with x value due to the decrease of saturation magnetization and magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant. But the effect of Ti4+ and Mg2+ substitutions on the Br/Bs ratio values was not obvious. Coercive force was mainly determined by the microstructure and magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant of the ferrites. In this research, with the increase of Ti4+ and Mg2+ substitutions, the advantageous influence by the decrease of magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant was more significant than the disadvantageous influence caused by the increase of closed pores. As a result, coercive force of the ferrites also decreased monotonously with the increase at x value.

Abstract:The effects of Co2+, Ti4+, and Bi3+ substitution on the microstructures and properties of low-temperature fired M-type barium hexaferrites have been studied in order to adapt the development of low-temperature cofired ferrites technology and produce gyromagnetic devices with a multilayer process. It is found that Bi3+ ions can enter into the 2a sublattice and consequently enhance the grain growth and densification due to the activation of the lattice, which in turn first lead to an increase and then a decrease of M-s. The substitution of Bi3+ ions is beneficial to forming the M phase and lowers the sintering temperature to about 900 degrees C, which is ideal for cofiring with silver paste. Scanning electron microscope and x-ray diffraction analysis have shown that the samples have excellent crystalline grains with a uniform size about 1-2 mu m. Moreover, nonmagnetic Ti4+ ions prefer to enter the 4f(VI) octahedral sites, giving rise to the weakening of the strong 12k-4f(VI) superexchange path and thus the isotropic exchange energy approaches the other second-order terms on the magnetic Hamiltonian, such as the antisymmetric interaction or even the magnetocrystalline anisotropy. With increasing the substitution content, some Co2+ ions, which locate in octahedral 12k sites, give a strong planar contribution to the anisotropy. Abstract:The effect of substitution of Ti for Co in compounds R2Co17−xTix (R=Pr or Nd, and x=0.0–2.0) on the structure and the magnetic properties has been investigated. It is found that the solubility of Ti in the compounds R2Co17−xTix (R=Pr or Nd) is around 1.0. The R2Co16Ti (R=Pr or Nd) are isostructures to their parent compounds (rhombohedral), and its unit cell is expanded. The spontaneous magnetization μs and Curie temperature TC decrease with increasing Ti content, owing to the magnetic dilution and the reduction of the moment of Co sublattice caused by Ti substitution. Moreover, an anomaly in the M-T curves of Pr2Co16Ti and Nd2Co17−xTix compounds with x=0.5 and 1.0 may be attributed to a spin reorientation. This transition may originate from the change of crystal electron field due to the preferential occupation of Ti atoms on specific crystallographic sites.

Abstract:The substitution effects of Fe with T on magnetic properties of YTi (Fe 1−x T x ) 11 , where T represents Co, Ni, and Si, have been investigated by x-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements. Lattice constants decrease with increasing the content of Co, Ni and Si. Saturation magnetizations were measured with a field of up to 70KOe at 1.5K. Curie temperatures increase monotonically with increasing the content of Co and Ni. A maximum occurs in the variation of saturation moments as a function of concentration in the compounds of YTi(Fe 1−x Co x ) 11 and YTi(Fe 1−x Ni x ) 11 . A change in easy magnetization direction from the c-axis is observed at room temperature in YTi(Fe 1−x Co x ) 11 compounds by increasing the Co content x. Saturation magnetizations and Curie temperatures both decrease with the increasing of Si content.

Abstract:Manganese–zinc ferrites with the composition of Mn0.782−xZn0.128Mx4+Fe2+0.09+2xFe3+2−2xO4 (x = 0; M = Ti, x = 0.004; M = Sn, x = 0.004) have been prepared by a solid-state reaction method. The cation distribution has been investigated by the Rietveld refinement of X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, fracture microstructure by scanning electron microscope (SEM), and magnetic property by LCR and B–H analyzer, respectively. The results show that Ti4+ and Sn4+ ions prefer to occupy octahedron sublattices (B sites), which leads to an increase in lattice parameter. Sn4+ ions substituted MnZn ferrite has much denser and more uniform microstructure with smaller grains than that of Ti4+ ions substituted and unsubstituted MnZn ferrites. The Curie temperature (Tc) of Ti4+ and Sn4+ substituted MnZn ferrites is higher than that of unsubstituted sample. In addition, both Ti4+ and Sn4+ substitutions, due to the compensation of magnetocrystalline anisotropy constant, can move the secondary peak of μi ∼ T curve to low temperature. However, the opposite variation trend has been observed in a PL ∼ T curve. Also, the DC-bias superposition characteristics have been discussed.

Abstract:In this study, a series of Co-doped compounds with the formula of LiNi(0.75-x)Co0.25TixO2（x＝0，0.1，0.25）was synthesized by using sol-gel method. Their structure, particle size, electrochemical properties were studied by TG，XRD，SEM and electrochemical tests. It was shown that the structure of materials changed from a hexagonal layered structure to a cubic structure as the x value increased. In particular, a mixture of hexagonal and cubic structure was presented at x =0.25. The electrochemical performance of the materials depended strongly on the amount of Ti doping. Possible effects on the structure and performance of LiNi(0.75-x)Co0.25TixO2 due to Ti doping are briefly discussed based upon the experiment and computational results.

Abstract:Mixed-metal oxide nanoparticles have attracted great scientific interest since they find applications in many fields. However, the synthesis of size-controlled and composition-tuned mixed-metal oxide nanoparticles is a great challenge that complicates their study for practical application. In this study, Co-doped FeMn2O4 nanoparticles were synthesized by the solvothermal method in which the crystallization was carried out under autogenous pressure at temperatures of 190 °C for 24 h. The influence of Co doping on the evolution of the structural and magnetic properties was investigated by various methods. It was found from XRD data that crystallite size decreases from 9.1 to 4.4 nm with the increase in Co content, which is in good agreement with the results of TEM. Based on the results of magnetic measurements, it was found that the saturation magnetization first increases with an increase in the cobalt content and reaches its maximum value at x = 0.4, and a further increase in x leads to a decrease in the saturation magnetization. The influence of cation redistribution on the observed changes has been discussed.

Abstract:We studied the evolution of the structural, electric, magnetic, and multiferroic properties with x in Fe1+xV2−xO4 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.4) spinels. For x = 0, three successive phase transitions occur from high to low temperatures: cubic-tetragonal (c < a) at TS, tetragonal (c < a) paramagnetic-orthorhombic ferrimagnetic at TN1, and orthorhombic collinear spin-tetragonal (c > a) noncollinear spin at TN2. Below TN2, magnetic field dependent ferroelectricity was observed. With increasing x from 0 to 0.3, TN1 was increased, while TS and TN2 was decreased with ferroelectricity weakened. For x = 0.4, TN2 together with ferroelectricity disappeared. The critical composition xc is around 0.3. Below xc, the resistivity follows the variable range hopping model, while above xc, the resistivity obeys nearest neighbor hooping model. Our observations evidence the strong couplings among the lattice, charge, orbital, and spin degrees of freedom as well as their effects on the structural, electric, magnetic and multiferroic properties in Fe1+xV2−xO4 spinels.

Abstract:Barium ferrite BaFe12O19 and its substituted derivatives BaFe9.6Co0.8Ti0.8M0.8O19 (M=Cu,Zn,Cr,Al,Sn,Sb) have been prepared from chemical coprecipitated carbonate precursor. Powders of the samples show a hexagonal fine platelet structure and a narrow particle size distribution. Hysteresis loop measurements prove that the coercivity suitable for magnetic recording can be obtained in this new Co–Ti–M series.

Abstract:The electronic structure and magnetic properties of the (Co1-xFex)Tet(CoxFe2-x)OctO4 spinels (x is deﬁned as the degree of inversion) scenario are investigated theoretically from first-principles, using generalized gradient approximation (GGA) method for the systems with strong coulomb correlations, which gives a correct description of the electronic structure. The GGA+U method gives an improved qualitative result compared with the GGA not only for the excited-state properties such as energy gaps but also for the ground-state properties such as magnetic moments and crystal parameters. The nominal valence of the transition metal elements and the ground state structure have been established based on the study of variation of the cation distribution (x=0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0) over the tetrahedral and octahedral sites. The site-preference calculation on bulk systems indicates that Co2+ ions strongly prefer the octahedral B sites, and the electronic structure and magnetic properties of cobalt ferrites highly depend on the cation distributions even though the chemical composition of the compound does not change. The results are in good agreement with the available experimental data and most of the other theoretical results.

Abstract:A detailed magnetic study has been carried out for Ti-doped La0.5Ba0.5Co1-xTixO3 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.075, 0.10, 0.125, and 0.15) cobaltites. Ti doping suppresses the ferromagnetic interaction in La0.5Ba0.5CoO3 and induces an antiferromagnetic phase in the system at 0.075≤ x ≤0.15. The spin state of Co ions is not affected by the Ti doping and remains an intermediate-spin state at x ≤ 0.15. At low temperatures, the system is in a reentrant spin glass state. Phase separation provides a phenomenological interpretation of these magnetic behaviors. A detailed phase diagram of La0.5Ba0.5Co1-xTixO3 has been constructed.

Abstract:We have investigated the structural and magnetic properties of Sr0.9La0.1TiO3 and Sr0.9La0.1Ti0.9Co0.1O3. Both samples can be indexed by a cubic lattice with the space group Pm3m at room temperature. The measurements of x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance confirmed the presence of Ti3+ ions in the samples. The sample Sr0.9La0.1TiO3 exhibits a strongly enhanced Pauli-paramagnetism behavior, whereas Sr0.9La0.1Ti0.9Co0.1O3 undergoes a ferrimagnetic transition at 127 K confirmed by a small λ anomaly at 128 K in the curve of specific heat. This transition may originate from a local charge transfer that creates some Co3+-Ti3+ antiferromagnetic pairings.
Influence of Ti Substitution on Microstructure and Magnetic Performance of MnZn Power Ferrites

Abstract:In this paper, the samples of MnZn power ferrite are prepared by oxide ceramic technology, and the new main formulations are presented in which TiO2 is added and Mn2+ is partly substituted by Ti4+.Since Ti4+is nonmagnetic ion, the new main formulations can certainly make a difference to the microstructure, magnetic performance and courier temperature of the ferrites. The results show that the proper substitution of Ti4+ for Mn2+ in manganese-zinc ferrite can increase the courier temperature. In addition, manganese-zinc ferrites with proper content of Ti can not only increase the initial permeability and density, but also reduce the power loss. In order to obtain good properties, the preferable substitution of Ti4+ for Mn2+ is 0.5mol%.

Abstract:Magnetic, electrical and magnetodielectric properties have been studied in Co-Ti co-doped M-type hexaferrite BaCoxTixFe12-2xO19 (x = 0 ∼ 4). With the incorporation of Co-Ti, both their ferromagnetic magnetization and coercivity have been greatly changed. The temperature dependent magnetization curve shows a apparent hump at around 420 K, likely in association with more complicated cycloidal spin ordering, which is closely related to ferroelectric polarization. Interestingly, a significantly enhancement in resistivity (∼3 orders in magnitude) can be obtained in co-doped samples (x > 2), which is beneficial for magnetoelectric properties. The magnetoelectric effect were examined by dielectric tunibility under external magnetic field, which shows apparent tunability up to ∼−3% for sample with x = 2 at 1T magnetic field, further supporting it is a room temperature single phase mutliferroic material.
Structural and magnetic properties of M–Ti (M = Ni or Zn) co-substituted M-type barium ferrite by a novel sintering process

Abstract:M 2+ (Ni 2+ or Zn 2+ ) ion together with Ti 4+ ion were substituted for two trivalent Fe 3+ ions of M-type barium ferrite in the form of Ba(MTi) x Fe 12−2x O 19 (x = 0.30, 0.60, 0.90 and 1.20). Samples were prepared by solid state reaction and sintered by a novel process. The samples were sintered by the sintering process at a high temperature of 1175 °C for 6 h and slowly downed to 800 °C at a rate of 1 °C per 1 min, and then cooled in air. This process could control contract deformation of grains and effectively reduce the pore formation. Under the novel sintering process, with x = 0.30–1.20, co-substitution of M–Ti caused no change to the single phase M-type barium ferrite structure, and the samples exhibited more homogeneous microstructure. The bulk density ( ρ ) increased with Zn–Ti contents, and the maximum density was 4.75 g/cm 3 (x = 1.20), which was 89.7 % of theory density (5.29 g/cm 3 ). Magnetic properties such as saturation magnetization ( M s ) and coercivity ( H c ) decreased with increasing of M–Ti substituted contents. Magnetic permittivity increased first, and then decreased at different x content under Ni–Ti and Zn–Ti substitution.
Strong Room-Temperature Ferromagnetism in Co2+-Doped TiO2 made from Colloidal Nanocrystals

Abstract:Colloidal cobalt-doped TiO2 (anatase) nanocrystals were synthesized and studied by electronic absorption, magnetic circular dichroism, transmission electron microscopy, magnetic susceptibility, cobalt K-shell X-ray absorption spectroscopy, and extended X-ray absorption fine structure measurements. The nanocrystals were paramagnetic when isolated by surface-passivating ligands, weakly ferromagnetic (Ms = 1.5 x 10-3 mB/Co2+ at 300 K) when aggregated, and strongly ferromagnetic (up to Ms = 1.9 mB/Co2+ at 300 K) when spin-coated into nanocrystalline films. X-ray absorption data reveal that cobalt is in the Co2+ oxidation state in all samples. In addition to providing strong experimental support for the existence of intrinsic ferromagnetism in cobalt-doped TiO2, these results demonstrate the possibility of using colloidal TiO2 diluted magnetic semiconductor nanocrystals as building blocks for assembly of ferromagnetic semiconductor nanostructures with potential spintronics applications.

Abstract:YTi(Fe1-xCox)11 crystallizes in the ThMn12-type tetragonal structure, with x ranging from 0.0 to 1.0, the Curie temperature increases with the increase of Co content. In order to understand the relation between magnetic properties and microst-ructure of these compounds, we studied their M?ssbauer spectra. The M?ssbauer effect measurements were carried out at room temperature on YTi(Fe1-xCox)11, with x equal to 0.0, 0.2 and 0.4. The best fits confirm that Co atoms preferentially occupy the j and f sites. The hyperfine fields of the measured samples reach a maximum at x = 0.2,which is in agreement with the results of magnetic measurements. By comparing the experimental results of M?ssbauer spectra of YTi(Fe1-xCox)11, Y2(Fe1-xCox)14B and YTi(Fe1-xNix)11, we analyze the difference of the 3d band structure between YTiFe11, and Y2Fe14B.
