Abstract:In this paper, we study the dynamics of Newton maps for arbitrary polynomials. Let $p$ be an arbitrary polynomial with at least three distinct roots, and $f$ be its Newton map. It is shown that the boundary $\partial B$ of any immediate root basin $B$ of $f$ is locally connected. Moreover, $\partial B$ is a Jordan curve if and only if ${\rm deg}(f|_B)=2$. This implies that the boundaries of all components of root basins, for all polynomials' Newton maps, from the viewpoint of topology, are tame.

Abstract:We characterize atypical values at infinity of a real polynomial function of three variables by a certain sum of indices of the gradient vector field of the function restricted to a sphere with a sufficiently large radius. This is an analogy of a result of Coste and de la Puente for real polynomial functions with two variables. We also give a characterization of atypical values at infinity of a real polynomial map whose regular fibers are $2$-dimensional surfaces.

Abstract:We study geometrically finite one-dimensional mappings. These are a subspace of $C^{1+\alpha}$ one-dimensional mappings with finitely many, critically finite critical points. We study some geometric properties of a mapping in this subspace. We prove that this subspace is closed under quasisymmetrical conjugacy. We also prove that if two mappings in this subspace are topologically conjugate, they are then quasisymmetrically conjugate. We show some examples of geometrically finite one-dimensional mappings.

Abstract:This paper deals with random dynamical systems of polynomial automorphisms (complex generalized Hénon maps and their conjugate maps) of $\Bbb{C}^{2}.$ We show that a generic random dynamical system of polynomial automorphisms has ``mean stablity'' on $\Bbb{C}^{2}$. Further, we show that if a system has mean stability, then (1) for each $z\in \Bbb{C}^{2}$ and for almost every sequence $\gamma =(\gamma _{n})_{n=1}^{\infty }$ of maps, the Lyapunov exponents of $\gamma $ at $z$ are negative, (2) there are only finitely many minimal sets of the system, (3) each minimal set is attracting, and (4) for each $z\in \Bbb{C}^{2}$ and for almost every sequence $\gamma $ of maps, the orbit $\{ \gamma _{n}\cdots \gamma _{1}(z) \} _{n=1}^{\infty }$ tends to one of the minimal sets of the system. Note that (1)--(4) cannot hold for any deterministic iteration dynamical system of a single complex generalized Hénon map. We observe many new phenomena in random dynamical systems of polynomial automorphisms of $\Bbb{C}^{2}$ and observe the mechanisms. We provide new strategies and methods to study higher-dimensional random holomorphic dynamical systems.

Abstract:It is well known that for $a>4$, the dynamical behaviors of the logistic map $f_a(x)=ax(1-x)$ on the maximal invariant compact set are "simple" which could be clearly explained by the theories of hyperbolic dynamics and symbolic dynamics. Is it possible that similar phenomena could be observed in general real polynomial maps? In this paper, we study this problem by investigating the real polynomial map $f_a(x)=ag(x)$, where $a$ is a parameter, and $g$ is a real-coefficient polynomial, which has at least two different real zeros or only one real zero.

Degeneracy of holomorphic mappings into or avoiding Fermat type hypersurfaces

Abstract:We prove that if $f\colon\mathbb{C}^p\rightarrow\mathbb{P}^n(\mathbb{C})$ is a holomorphic mapping of maximal rank whose image lies in the Fermat hypersurface of degree $d>(n+1)\max\{n-p,1\}$, then its image is contained in a linear subspace of dimension at most $\bigg[\dfrac{n-1}{2}\bigg]$. Analog in the logarithmic case is also given. Our result strengthens a classical result of Green and provides a Nevanlinna theoretic proof for a recent result due to Etesse.

Hölder continuity and laminarity of the Green currents for Hénon-like maps

Abstract:Under a natural assumption on the dynamical degrees, we prove that the Green currents associated to any Hénon-like map in any dimension have Hölder continuous super-potentials, i.e., give Hölder continuous linear functionals on suitable spaces of forms and currents. As a consequence, the unique measure of maximal entropy is the Monge-Ampère of a Hölder continuous plurisubharmonic function and has strictly positive Hausdorff dimension. Under the same assumptions, we also prove that the Green currents are woven. When they are of bidegree $(1,1)$, they are laminar. In particular, our results generalize results known until now only in algebraic settings, or in dimension 2.

Some rigidity results for polynomial automorphisms of C^2

Abstract:We prove several new rigidity results for polynomial automorphisms of $\mathbb C^2$ with positive entropy. A first result is that a complex slice of the (forward or backward) Julia set is never a smooth, or even rectifiable, curve. We also show that such an automorphism cannot preserve a global holomorphic foliation, nor a real-analytic foliation with complex leaves. These results are used to show that under mild assumptions, two real-analytically conjugate automorphisms are polynomially conjugate. For mappings defined over a number field, we also study the fields of definition of multipliers of saddle periodic orbits.

Abstract:There are many classical results, related to the Denjoy--Wolff Theorem, concerning the relationship between orbits of interior points and orbits of boundary points under iterates of holomorphic self-maps of the unit disc. Here, for the first time, we address such questions in the very general setting of sequences $(F_n)$ of holomorphic maps between simply connected domains. We show that, while some classical results can be generalised, with an interesting dependence on the geometry of the domains, a much richer variety of behaviours is possible. Some of our results are new even in the classical setting. Our methods apply in particular to non-autonomous dynamical systems, when $(F_n)$ are forward compositions of holomorphic maps, and to the study of wandering domains in holomorphic dynamics. The proofs use techniques from geometric function theory, measure theory and ergodic theory, and the construction of examples involves a `weak independence' version of the second Borel--Cantelli lemma and the concept from ergodic theory of `shrinking targets'.

Abstract:In this paper we will develop a general approach which shows that generalized 'critical relations' of families of locally defined holomorphic maps on the complex plane unfold transversally. The main idea is to define a transfer operator, which is a local analogue of the Thurston pullback operator, using holomorphic motions. Assuming a so-called lifting property is satisfied, we obtain information about the spectrum of this transfer operator and thus about transversality. An important new feature of our method is that it is not global: the maps we consider are only required to be defined and holomorphic on a neighbourhood of some finite set. We will illustrate this method by obtaining transversality for a wide class of one-parameter families of interval and circle maps, for example for maps with flat critical points, but also for maps with complex analytic extensions such as certain polynomial-like maps. As in Tsujii's approach (Tsujii M 1994 A note on Milnor and Thurston's monotonicity theoremGeometry and Analysis in Dynamical Systemvol 14 (Singapore: World Scientific) pp 60-2; Tsujii M 2000 Ergod. Theor. Dyn. Syst.20925-933), for real maps we obtain positive transversality (where > 0 holds instead of just not equal 0), and thus monotonicity of entropy for these families, and also (as an easy application) for the real quadratic family. This method additionally gives results for unimodal families of the form x -> vertical bar x vertical bar(l) vertical bar c for l > 1 not necessarily an even integer and c real.
An analogue of Green's Functions for Quasiregular Maps

Abstract:Green's functions are highly useful in analyzing the dynamical behavior of polynomials in their escaping set. The aim of this paper is to construct an analogue of Green's functions for planar quasiregular mappings of degree two and constant complex dilatation. These Green's functions are dynamically natural, in that they semi-conjugate our quasiregular mappings to the real squaring map. However, they do not share the same regularity properties as Green's functions of polynomials. We use these Green's functions to investigate properties of the boundary of the escaping set and give several examples to illustrate behavior that does not occur for the dynamics of quadratic polynomials.

Abstract:In this paper we give analytic proofs of the existence of transversal homoclinic points for a family of non-globally smooth diffeomorphisms having the origin as a fixed point which come out as a truncated map governing the local dynamics near a critical period three cycle associated to the Secant map. Using Moser's version of Birkhoff-Smale's Theorem, we prove that the boundary of the basin of attraction of the origin contains a Cantor-like invariant subset such that the restricted dynamics to it is conjugate to the full shift of $N$-symbols for any integer $N\ge 2$ or infinity.

Abstract:We consider products of the matrices associated with the Szegő recursion from the theory of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle and show that under suitable assumptions, their norms grow exponentially in the number of factors. In the language of dynamical systems, this result expresses a uniform hyperbolicity statement. We present two applications of this result. On the one hand, we identify explicitly the almost sure spectrum of extended CMV matrices with non-negative random Verblunsky coefficients. On the other hand, we show that no Ising model in one dimension exhibits a phase transition. Also, in the case of dynamically generated interaction couplings, we describe a gap labeling theorem for the Lee-Yang zeros in the thermodynamic limit.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of the three-dimensional quadratic diffeomorphism using a concept first introduced thirty years ago for the Frenkel-Kontorova model of condensed matter physics: the anti-integrable (AI) limit. At the traditional AI limit, orbits of a map degenerate to sequences of symbols and the dynamics is reduced to the shift operator, a pure form of chaos. Under nondegeneracy conditions, a contraction mapping argument can show that infinitely many AI states continue to orbits of the deterministic map. For the 3D quadratic map, the AI limit that we study is a quadratic correspondence whose branches, a pair of one-dimensional maps, introduce symbolic dynamics on two symbols. The AI states, however, are nontrivial orbits of this correspondence. The character of these orbits depends on whether the quadratic takes the form of an ellipse, a hyperbola, or a pair of lines. Using contraction arguments, we find parameter domains for each case such that each symbol sequence corresponds to a unique AI state. In some parameter domains, sufficient conditions are then found for each such AI state to continue away from the limit to become an orbit of the original 3D map. Numerical continuation methods extend these results, allowing computation of bifurcations and obtaining orbits with horseshoe-like structures and intriguing self-similarity. We conjecture that pairs of periodic orbits in saddle-node or period doubling bifurcations have symbol sequences that differ in exactly one position.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider random iterations of polynomial maps $z^2 +c_n$ where $c_n$ are complex-valued independent random variables following the uniform distribution on the closed disk with center $c$ and radius $r$. The aim of this paper is twofold. First, we study the (dis)connectedness of random Julia sets. Here, we reveal the relationships between the bifurcation radius and connectedness of random Julia sets. Second, we investigate the bifurcation of our random iterations and give quantitative estimates of bifurcation parameters. In particular, we prove that for the central parameter $c = -1$, almost every random Julia set is totally disconnected with much smaller radial parameters $r$ than expected. We also introduce several open questions worth discussing.

Abstract:We consider non-linear evolution equations arising from mean-field limits of particle systems on discrete spaces. We investigate a notion of curvature bounds for these dynamics based on convexity of the free energy along interpolations in a discrete transportation distance related to the gradient flow structure of the dynamics. This notion extends the one for linear Markov chain dynamics studied by Erbar and Maas. We show that positive curvature bounds entail several functional inequalities controlling the convergence to equilibrium of the dynamics. We establish explicit curvature bounds for several examples of mean-field limits of various classical models from statistical mechanics.

In particular, for mappings satisfying the inverse Poletsky type modulus inequality, we establish the possibility of their continuous extension to the boundary in terms of prime ends. We also study the local behavior of such mappings at boundary points.

Abstract:Poincaré compactification is very important to investigate the dynamics of vector fields in the neighborhood of the infinity, which is the main concern on the escape of particles to infinity in celestial mechanics, astrophysics, astronomy and some branches of chemistry. Since then Poincaré compactification has been extended into various cases, such as: n -dimensional polynomial vector fields, Hamiltonian vector fields, quasi-homogeneous vector fields, rational vector fields, etc.In recent years, the piecewise smooth vector fields describing situations with discontinuities such as switching, decisions, impacts etc., have been attracted more and more attention. It is worth to notice that Poincaré compactification has been extended successfully to piecewise polynomial vector fields in 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional cases, and there are also works on n -dimensional Lipschitz continuous vector fields. The main goal of present paper is to extend the Poincaré compactification to n -dimensional piecewise polynomial vector fields which are usually discontinuous, this is a missing point in the existent literature. Thus we can investigate the dynamics near the infinity of n -dimensional piecewise polynomial vector fields. As an application we study the global phase portraits for a class of 3-dimensional piecewise linear differential systems.

Abstract:We show existence, uniqueness and positivity for the Green's function of the operator $(\Delta_g + \alpha)^k$ in a closed Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$, of dimension $n>2k$, $k\in \mathbb{N}$, $k\geq 1$, with Laplace-Beltrami operator $\Delta_g = -\operatorname{div}_g(\nabla \cdot)$, and where $\alpha >0$. We are interested in the case where $\alpha$ is large : We prove pointwise estimates with explicit dependence on $\alpha$ for the Green's function and its derivatives. We highlight a region of exponential decay for the Green's function away from the diagonal, for large $\alpha$.

Conformal dynamics at infinity for groups with contracting elements

Abstract:This paper develops a theory of conformal density at infinity for groups with contracting elements. We start by introducing a class of convergence boundary encompassing many known hyperbolic-like boundaries, on which a detailed study of conical points and Myrberg points is carried out. The basic theory of conformal density is then established, including the Sullivan shadow lemma and Hopf-Tsuji-Sullivan theorem. This gives a unification of the theory of conformal density on the Gromov and Floyd boundary for (relatively) hyperbolic groups, the visual boundary for rank-1 CAT(0) groups, and Thurston boundary for mapping class groups. Besides that, the conformal density on the horofunction boundary provides a new important example of our general theory. At last, we present applications towards the co-growth problem of divergent groups, measure theoretical results for CAT(0) groups and mapping class groups.
