Abstract:This letter experimentally demonstrates all-optical clock recovery and optical 3R regeneration for a 10-Gb/s nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) format. The 3R regenerator has achieved 10 000-hop cascadability and 1 000 000-km transmission for a pseudorandom bit sequence (PRBS) of 27-1. A semiconductor-optical-amplifier-based Mach-Zehnder interferometer (SOA-MZI) as an NRZ to pseudoreturn-to-zero converter and a Fabry-Perot filter perform the all-optical clock recovery from an NRZ signal. A pair of SOA-MZIs combined with a synchronous modulator provides the 2R regeneration and retiming functions. The cascadability of the 3R regenerator is investigated in a recirculating loop transmission experiment by eye diagram, bit-error rate, and Q-factor measurements. Transmission with the 3R regenerator shows significant performance improvement over that without 3R regeneration. A 100-hop cascadability is also demonstrated for PRBS 231-1, enabling 10 000-km error-free transmission with a low power penalty of 1.2 dB

Abstract:A totally new architecture for clock recovery is delivered in the article.Very simple circuit is designed for time-to-voltage conversion,which transforms time error into voltage error.It is very convenient to use the transformed voltage for error detection.The voltage is processed by a self-adaptive peak value capture circuit to realize voltage comparison and clock self-recovery.The circuit is designed with SMIC 0.18μm process lib.Systemic circuit simulation was carried out and experiment results indicate that the designed circuit can work within a wide band of 50MHz to 150MHz,which meets the requirement of clock recovery in a VLSI system design.

Abstract:A 40Gbit/s optical 3R regenerator is proposed and demonstrated. The 3R regenerator consists of a dual-ring injection mode-locked fiber ring laser as the clock recovery module and an electroabsorption modulator (EAM) as the decision gate. The clock recovery module extracts the optical short pulse clock with low timing jitter from degraded 40Gbit/s optical data streams, while the decision gate restores their signal quality. A numerical model describing the cross-absorption modulation effect in a bulk EAM is developed to explore the operating conditions, such as bias voltage, pump signal power. The timing jitter tolerance for the EAM optical gate is also investigated. Significantly improvement of BER is obtained from 40Gbit/s RZ signals which are degraded by polarization mode dispersion or chromatic dispersion.

Abstract:All-optical clock recovery and data regeneration are simultaneously achieved by use of a single fiber-optical parametric oscillator (FOPO) with idler feedback control circuit for the first time. A return-to-zero (RZ) 3R regeneration is experimentally demonstrated by optimizing the operating parameters of the FOPO. Experimental results show that the performance of extinction ratio and timing jitter for the regenerated signal are improved in terms of transfer function slopes of 1.9 and 0.16, respectively, and the maximal receiver sensitivity improvement is up to 3.42dB.

Abstract:In this paper, 40-Gb/s all-optical 3R regeneration has been experimentally demonstrated based on semiconductor devices. The 3R regenerator incorporates an amplified feedback laser (AFL) for all-clock recovery and a semiconductor optical amplifier delayed interferometer as the optical decision gate. 40-GHz optical clock with low timing jitter and uniform amplitude is successfully recovered from the degraded signal by the AFL. The degraded signal is restored by the 3R regenerator with the Q-factor improved.

Abstract:This paper presents experimental demonstration of an all-optical 3 R (re-amplification, re-shaping, re-timing) regeneration scheme for differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) signals, which consists of a clock recovery module and a phase-regeneration module. The clock recovery module is based on a mode-locked fiber laser, and the optical clock is extracted with low timing jitter of 29 ps from a degraded 10 Gb/s DPSK signal. The phase regenerator consists of a one-bit delay interferometer demodulation stage and a semiconductor optical amplifier in which cross-phase modulation and nonlinear polarization rotation occur simultaneously. The results show that, after 3 R regeneration, the receiver sensitivity is improved by more than 1.6 dB for a bit error rate of 1 E-9.

Abstract:ABSTRACTIn this article, 40‐Gb/s all‐optical 3R regeneration with a monolithic amplified feedback laser (AFL) as the all‐optical clock recovery and a semiconductor optical amplifier delayed interferometer (SOA‐DI) as the optical decision gate has been experimentally demonstrated. A 40‐GHz optical clock with low timing jitter and uniform amplitude was successfully recovered from the polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and noise degraded signal by the AFL. The PMD degraded signal was restored by the 3R regenerator with the Q‐factor and the amplitude uniformity improved. Abstract:This letter discusses an experimental demonstration of 10-Gb/s packet-by-packet burst-mode optical 3R regeneration in an optical-label switching router. A monolithically integrated Mach-Zehnder interferometer with semiconductor optical am- plifiers provides the all-optical 2R regeneration. Synchronous modulation with the use of Fabry-Pérot filter-based clock re- covery performs the burst-mode retiming function necessary for 3R regeneration. The clock recovery works successfully despite a clock phase discontinuity between adjacent packets. The optical 3R regenerator shows bit-error rates below and sensitivity variations less than 1.5 dB over a wide range of guard times from 3 to 1000 ns.

Abstract:The all optical clock recovery scheme has certain tolerance for degraded input signal.A novel scheme including semiconductor optical amplifier(SOA),chirped fiber Bragg grating(CFBG),and stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS) is proposed and demonstrated to recover the clock from the input degraded non-return-to-zero(NRZ) data stream.SOA and CFBG enhance the clock component,and the clock information is extracted from the clock component enhanced signal based on SBS.For different degraded signals,the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of the input stream is the key factor to the clock recovery.When the input SNR is worse,the noise of recovered clock spectrum is higher,and the amplitude of extracted optical clock is lower.The clock of NRZ signal could not be recovered as the clock-to-data ratio of the enhanced signal is less than-10 dB.

Abstract:All optical bit clock recovery is one of the key technologies for all optical 3R recovery. In this paper, a simple method applying the combination of Fabry–Perot (F–P) filter and semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) for clock recovery is proposed. The effect of the F–P filter finesse on the clock recovery and the reduction in the amplitude fluctuation of the clock pulse by the SOA are discussed theoretically. With this technology 10Gbit/s clock recovery with equal amplitude and wavelength transparency was realized experimentally.

Abstract:A novel 40 Gbit/s reamplified-reshaping-retiming (3R) regenerator is proposed and demonstrated based on a two-ring injection mode-locked fibre laser as the clock recovery and the electro-absorption modulator of the reshaping optical decision. A numerical model describing the cross-absorption modulation effect in a bulk electroabsorption modulator is presented. By this model, the shape and the extinction ratio of the optical decision gate is improved by optimizing the parameters. The polarization mode dispersion mitigation by the 3R regenerator is experimentally demonstrated at 40 Gbit/s with improved bit-error-rate (BER) performance when the differential-time-delay value is set up to 40% of bit interval.

Abstract:We demonstrate an all-optical clock-and-data recovery technology for 10-Gb/s NRZ-DPSK signals. With a relatively simple configuration, the clock-recovery scheme achieves less than 1.5-ps RMS jitter for signals after fiber transmission. The pattern-dependence of data-recovery is within 0.5-dB at BER 10(-9).

Abstract:This paper demonstrates optical 3R regeneration for a 10 Gb/s nonreturn-to-zero (NRZ) data format. Semiconductor optical amplifier based Mach-Zehnder interferometer (SOA-MZI) wavelength converters, synchronous modulator, and Fabry-Perot filter (FPF) are used for 3R regenearation including all-optical clock recovery. Recirculating loop transmission experiments compare transmission performances with different 3R regenation spacings. Transmission with the 3R regenerator shows significant performance improvement over that without 3R regeneration in terms of eye diagram, Q-factor, and transmission distance. Q-factors around 20 dB are obtained up to a transmission distance of 5000 km when the 3R regeneration spacing is 100 or 500 km.
