Abstract:For the need of theoretical research and actual test on permanent magnet,this paper designs a system which can measure the section flux of permanent magnet automatically.The PLC control sys-tem,mechanical device and the flux measure coil of the system is specially designed.An actual measure-ment and a 3D finite element simulation of a cylindrical permanent magnet have been done.The result of simulation and test is contrasted and analyzed,and shows that the measurement system can measure the permanent magnet's section flux automatically through programming,and have a high accuracy.

Abstract:In a magnetic field detection system,to achieve high-sensitivity magnetic field measurement, it is necessary to use uniform magnetic field coils to provide a stable working environment, so the measurement of the magnetic field coilsconstant is of great significance. To accurately measure the magnetic field and compare the coil constant, we employed two different methods under good magnetic shielding conditions: the optically-pumped rubidium free-induction decay magnetometry and the fluxgate magnetometry. In terms of measuring coil constant, the optically-pumped rubidium FID magnetometer performs better than fluxgate magnetometer due to its high-sensitivity and good signal-to-noise ratio. We compare the magnetic field measured by the FID magnetometer with that of the fluxgate magnetometer and obtain a calibration factor of 0.9967. The calibration of fluxgate magnetometer with optically-pumped atomic magnetometer is realized. The method is simple and easy to operate for calibrating fluxgate magnetometer.

Abstract:Fluxgate sensors are currently widely used for weak magnetic field measurement because of their relatively great performance, such as resolution, power consumption, and measurement of vector magnetic fields directly. Since the analog fluxgate sensor has some drawbacks, e.g., it would be influenced by the noise of the analog circuit. Hence, in recent years, the analog circuit is gradually inclined to be realized by digital processing in which the software parameter adjustment is employed to replace the analog components, which can greatly improve the flexibility of the design. This paper proposes a digital single-axis fluxgate sensor according to the cobalt-based amorphous effect. To be specific, the analog signal output by the fluxgate is sampled directly by an analog-to-digital converter to obtain the signal waveform in digital form after amplification. The demodulation, filtering, and integration of the signal are all solved by mathematical algorithms. Based on the working principle of the fluxgate sensor, the selection of the magnetic core material and coil winding method of the fluxgate sensor probe is introduced in detail. The design and function of the excitation circuit and preamplifier circuit, as well as the specific realization of digital signal processing, are described. Finally, the performance test of the digital fluxgate sensor was performed under laboratory conditions, and the magnetic anomaly detection comparison experiment was performed outdoors with commercial fluxgate sensors. To sum up, the linearity of the digital single-axis fluxgate sensor is better than 1 × 10-5, and the root mean square noise value is below 0.1 nT. At the same time, it has good magnetic field tracking performance and is extremely sensitive to the magnetic field of the measurement area.

Abstract:The measuring principle of the magnetoelectric effect by dynamic method is described,and the corresponding measuring device is optimized to design and set up.The effect of some important parameters on the measuring results is investigated.It are shown that the choice of the suitable parameters is important for the measuring results and the actual reqiurement must be meeted during the design of the measuring device.It is advantageous for the improvement of the measuring precision and reduction of the measuring errors to enlarge the length of the coil,decrease the number of turns of the coil,and reduce the strength of the AC magnetic field.
High-sensitivity low-noise miniature fluxgate magnetometers using a flip chip conceptual design

Abstract:This paper presents a novel class of miniature fluxgate magnetometers fabricated on a print circuit board (PCB) substrate and electrically connected to each other similar to the current "flip chip" concept in semiconductor package. This sensor is soldered together by reversely flipping a 5 cm × 3 cm PCB substrate to the other identical one which includes dual magnetic cores, planar pick-up coils, and 3-D excitation coils constructed by planar Cu interconnections patterned on PCB substrates. Principles and analysis of the fluxgate sensor are introduced first, and followed by FEA electromagnetic modeling and simulation for the proposed sensor. Comprehensive characteristic experiments of the miniature fluxgate device exhibit favorable results in terms of sensitivity (or "responsivity" for magnetometers) and field noise spectrum. The sensor is driven and characterized by employing the improved second-harmonic detection technique that enables linear V-B correlation and responsivity verification. In addition, the double magnitude of responsivity measured under very low frequency (1 Hz) magnetic fields is experimentally demonstrated. As a result, the maximum responsivity of 593 V/T occurs at 50 kHz of excitation frequency with the second harmonic wave of excitation; however, the minimum magnetic field noise is found to be 0.05 nT/Hz(1/2) at 1 Hz under the same excitation. In comparison with other miniature planar fluxgates published to date, the fluxgate magnetic sensor with flip chip configuration offers advances in both device functionality and fabrication simplicity. More importantly, the novel design can be further extended to a silicon-based micro-fluxgate chip manufactured by emerging CMOS-MEMS technologies, thus enriching its potential range of applications in modern engineering and the consumer electronics market.
Reconstruction of the magnetic field in the measuring volume of an electromagnetic flow sensor

Abstract:A novel approach to obtain the magnetic field in the measuring volume of an electromagnetic flow sensor is introduced. It is a measurement-calculation coupled approach. Utilizing a characteristic that there is no exciting current in the measuring volume, the problem is simplified to solving a Laplace's equation of magnetic scalar potential in the volume. Through measuring the distribution of normal magnetic flux density on the boundary surface of the volume using a magnetic scanning device, the necessary boundary condition to solve the Laplace's equation is provided. Finally, the magnetic field is reconstructed through solving the Laplace's equation with the measured boundary condition. This approach is more efficient and accurate than existing approaches and do not need to know the inner structure of the magnetic exciting unit. Experimental validations on a conventional pipe flow measuring sensor and a late-model local velocity measuring sensor are both given. This reconstruction approach will be very useful in the studies of not only electromagnetic flow sensors but also many other mechatronics systems such as motors, bearing and maglev etc.

Abstract:On the basis of shear working mode of magnetorheological fluid, in this article, a novel temperature controllable yield stress measurement device is designed, and the double magnetic circuit structure and the heating structure are proposed. And then, the magnetic field and temperature field of the measurement device are simulated, respectively, by the finite element method. Furthermore, several experiments are carried out to evaluate the magnetic field, measurement precision, and repeatability of the self-designed device. The results indicate that the proposed measurement device has uniform magnetic field distribution and controllable temperature and also has high yield stress testing accuracy and repeatability.

Abstract:This paper proposes a displacement sensing method based on magnetic flux measurement. A bridge-structured magnetic circuit, formed by permanent magnets and two ferromagnetic cores, is designed and discussed. The analyses of the equivalent magnetic circuit and three-dimensional finite element simulations showed that the magnetic flux density changes linearly with the reciprocal of the sum of a constant and the displacement. A prototype sensor of the bridge structure is developed that consists of four permanent magnets as excitation, a Hall sensor as reception, and two ferromagnetic cores as the connection. Experiments have validated the feasibility of this method. The measured results show a good linearity between the sensor's output and the reciprocal of the sum of a constant and the displacement, with a correlation coefficient greater than 0.9995 across different measurement ranges. Additionally, the measured results significantly indicate that the proposed sensor is compatible with different ferromagnetic materials with a worst-case error of less than 5%. The proposed sensor has the advantages of low cost and good linearity; however, the test object is limited to ferromagnetic materials.

Abstract:In this paper, some methods to measure discharging current, the magnetic induction intensity and are presented and discussed, by theoretical analysis and comparison, some conclusions are drawn. Measuring discharging current with current divider, and measuring magnetic induction intensity with magnetic test coil are feasible in practice. Deformation behavior of work-piece under electromagnetic force can be measured with sliding needles and high-speed camera, each method has advantages and disadvantages, according to the specific experimental situation, the more appropriate method should be chosen.

Abstract:Magnetic flux leakage (MFL) testing is effective in detecting internal defects in ferromagnetic materials. However, it requires the saturation magnetization of materials, which is not always practicable in complex inspection environments. Therefore, this study presents a novel dynamic permeability testing (DPT) method, in which internal defects will induce dynamic permeability variations on the surface of weakly magnetized ferromagnetic materials, and the variations are then detected by alternating current detection coils with magnetic cores, enabling the identification of internal defects. The principle of DPT is analyzed through simulations, which are subsequently verified by experiments. Furthermore, the effects of excitation frequency, probe lift-off, and defect size on the DPT signal are investigated experimentally. Finally, the comparison with conventional MFL demonstrates that the DPT method can effectively identify the internal defect using a weak magnetization current of 0.1 A (about 0.25 T in the steel plate), whereas MFL requires 0.5 A (about 1.32 T) to achieve a similar detection capability under the same probe lift-off values. This new method has significant practical value, especially in situations where saturation magnetization is not feasible.
Study on Micro Fluxgate Magnetic Sensor

Abstract:Based on MEMS technology, a novel type of micro fluxgate magnetic sensor (MFGM), which exploits magnetic fluxgate principle, has been designed. It has symmetrical geometry, and is flexible for electrical connection, easy to form as a two-axis or a one-axes vector sensor. MFGM is easily assembled into a 3-axis subminiature magnetometer and can be applied to measure vector of the weak geomagnetic field. The microfabrication process has been developed. The UV lithography technology in combination with thick negative and positive photoresists is exploited in the microfabrication. The original samples have been produced with the dimension of 1 cm ×1 cm ×100 um . MFGM can be widely applied in the conventional and potential fields, for examples, scientific research, automation, process control of industry, mineral prospecting, medical appliance, especially in micro-satellite (including nano-satellite and pico-satellite) missions. It is a important part of Attitude Determination and Control System (ADCS) subsystem of MEMSSat-1 pico-satellite (researched by Tsinghua Univ.), used to obtain information about the attitude of the satellite individually or in combination with other parts such as Micro Inertial Measurement Unit (MIMU).

Abstract:The surface resistance reduction can further suppress the surface power loss of a superconducting radio-frequency cavity. Since the surface resistance of a superconducting radio-frequency cavity is mainly originated from the magnetic flux trapping, and thus the corresponding magnetic field strength could be measured to reflect the residual resistance. A fluxgate magnetometer is always employed to measure the ambient surface magnetic field of a superconducting radio-frequency cavity. However, this kind of equipment is relatively larger than the cavity and always need expensive cost. In this paper, we developed a magneto-inductive (MI) magnetic sensor, which is smaller, lighter weight, and lower cost than the fluxgate magnetometer. The specifications such as the noise floor, resolution, etc., are measured. In addition, a comparative observation of the magnetic field between the proposed MI sensor and a highly precise is conducted. The experimental results identify the capability of the proposed MI sensor in weak magnetic detection.

Abstract:Fluxgate magnetic sensors are especially important in detecting weak magnetic fields. The mechanism of a fluxgate magnetic sensor is based on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction. The structure of a fluxgate magnetic sensor mainly consists of excitation windings, core and sensing windings, similar to the structure of a transformer. To date, they have been applied to many fields such as geophysics and astro-observations, wearable electronic devices and non-destructive testing. In this review, we report the recent progress in both the basic research and applications of fluxgate magnetic sensors, especially in the past two years. Regarding the basic research, we focus on the progress in lowering the noise, better calibration methods and increasing the sensitivity. Concerning applications, we introduce recent work about fluxgate magnetometers on spacecraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, wearable electronic devices and defect detection in coiled tubing. Based on the above work, we hope that we can have a clearer prospect about the future research direction of fluxgate magnetic sensor.

A Novel Alternating Magnetic Field Measuring Device For Magnetic Induction Hyperthermia

Abstract:Alternating magnetic field is more and more widely used in medical devices. In experimental and clinical applications, the intensity, frequency and other parameters are usually the decisive factors, thus making the measurement of the magnetic field essential. An alternating magnetic field measuring device is designed, using three detection coils as the probes, a DSP chip is used for data acquisition and processing. The intensity, frequency and direction of the magnetic field can be measured. The intensity range of 18 Gauss to 78 Gauss and frequency range of 50 kHz to 800 kHz is measurable. The accuracy of both the measurement of magnetic flux density and the frequency is above 10%.

Abstract:The MEMS fluxgate magnetic sensor which is characterized by its small mass, smart volume, high sensitivity and outstanding temperature stability, is often applied on the measurements of weak magnetic fields, such as the geomagnetic field. Therefore, it is widely utilized in the field of aeronautics and aerospace field, especially in Nano-/Pico- satellites. MEMSMag, a novel type of micro fluxgate magnetic sensor (MFGM), which exploits magnetic fluxgate principle, was designed and microfabricated, Based on MEMS technology. The micro sensor probe has symmetrical geometry, and is flexible for electrical connection. MEMSMag would be easily assembled into a 3-axis subminiature magnetometer and will be applied to measure vector of the weak geomagnetic field. The microfabrication process was developed. The UV lithography technology in combination with thick negative hard-cured technology was exploited in the microfabrication. The original samples were produced with the dimension of 1 1 100 . The primary tests have been done. The integrity, conductivity and resist test, as well as transformer effect measurement were completed. The statistics, analysis and conclusion of the experimental results have been obtained.
A 3-Axis Miniature Magnetic Sensor Based on a Planar Fluxgate Magnetometer with an Orthogonal Fluxguide

Abstract:A new class of tri-axial miniature magnetometer consisting of a planar fluxgate structure with an orthogonal ferromagnetic fluxguide centrally situated over the magnetic cores is presented. The magnetic sensor possesses a cruciform ferromagnetic core placed diagonally upon the square excitation coil under which two pairs of pick-up coils for in-plane field detection are allocated. Effective principles and analysis of the magnetometer for 3-D field vectors are described and verified by numerically electromagnetic simulation for the excitation and magnetization of the ferromagnetic cores. The sensor is operated by applying the second-harmonic detection technique that can verify V-B relationship and device responsivity. Experimental characterization of the miniature fluxgate device demonstrates satisfactory spatial magnetic field detection results in terms of responsivity and noise spectrum. As a result, at an excitation frequency of 50 kHz, a maximum in-plane responsivity of 122.4 V/T appears and a maximum out-of-plane responsivity of 11.6 V/T is obtained as well. The minimum field noise spectra are found to be 0.11 nT/√Hz and 6.29 nT/√Hz, respectively, in X- and Z-axis at 1 Hz under the same excitation frequency. Compared with the previous tri-axis fluxgate devices, this planar magnetic sensor with an orthogonal fluxguide provides beneficial enhancement in both sensory functionality and manufacturing simplicity. More importantly, this novel device concept is considered highly suitable for the extension to a silicon sensor made by the current CMOS-MEMS technologies, thus emphasizing its emerging applications of field detection in portable industrial electronics.

Abstract:With electrical products becoming miniaturized,it is more difficult to measure the magnetic field caused by permanent magnets in them.A method for measuring 3-D magnetic field of the permanent magnet with three single-dimension Hall probes was proposed.The designed system based on the method have many characteristics,such as real-time display,depicting magnetic flux density,high automation and sensitivity,diminution of the dead zone and so on.The system can be properly used to check the magnetic characteristics and magnetizing effect in engineering practice.
